GUIDELINES FOR COOPERATING TEACHER


The Cooperating Teachers/Mentors shall:
1. Observe mentor-mentee relationship;
2. Respect the two folds role of student teachers as interns and as professionals;
3. Explain to student teachers student record which must be kept and used properly, as well as the value of confidentiality;
4. Help student teachers to develop classroom management strategies;
5. Conduct conferences on a regular basis for student teachers to gain insights into their teaching behaviours;
6. Assist the student teachers in honing their skills through:
a. Regular class observation and post conference
b. Lesson planning
c. Use varied strategies/approaches/techniques
d. Classroom management
e. Assessment of learning outcomes
f. Questioning techniques
g. Preparation of instructional materials
h. Preparation of examinations/various assessment modes
i. Accomplishment of different forms and related work
7. Observe, coach/mentor and evaluate the performance of the student teacher;
8. Keep a record of observations and post conferences made with the student teacher;
9. Model effective teaching and management techniques;
10. Provide the student teacher the opportunity to teach independently and collaboratively;
11. Allow the student teacher to participate in co-curricular and school/community activities;
12. Complete a set of summative evaluation reports each student teacher;
13. Encourage student teachers to collaboratively make decisions leading to independence of their own teaching strategies;
14. Acquaint student teachers to collaboratively make decisions leading to independence of their own teaching strategies;
15. Identify expectations and responsibilities in the duration of the student teaching experience;
16. Provide the student teachers with an overview of the long-range plans, standards and benchmarks for the classroom, samples
of actual lesson plans and explanations of the process;
17. Set up specific guidelines for the student teachers to follow in formulating lesson plans and other instructional needs;
18. Observe and critique the student teacher’s performance in a frequent and continual basis;
19. Recommend to the ST supervisor a final grade reflective of the student teacher’s performance and supported by evaluation
forms; and
20. Advise the ST supervisor should they have problems with the student teachers.
21. Recommend a PASS or FAIL standing for the student teacher for the practicum;

As stipulated in this guideline, I commit to give my full support in the TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM
if the College of Education PHINMA COC as one of the chosen cooperating teacher. I understand that as
the cooperating teacher, I play a critical role as the student teacher’s model and mentor and have great
influence over the student teacher’s learning experience. I will do my best to carry out this commitment in
a spirit of openness and helpfulness through actively involving myself in nurturing the future educator to
be an excellent teacher in the future.
