Rainforests are a valuable refuge for wildlife and plants. They are also important because the
large number of plants here provide oxygen through photosynthesis, and help regulate the world's
climate and the atmosphere. That is why rainforests are often referred to as the green lungs of the
Earth. Despite its great value, the world's rainforests are slowly being destroyed. That is called
deforestation. Trees are cut down for wood or paper, and the use of agricultural land is planted with
crops such as soybeans or palm oil. Soybeans are used as food for humans and animals. Palm oil is
used in food production, and is a substitute for gasoline and diesel oil. Everyone can help reduce
deforestation and save rainforests, or to a higher level, the world's ecosystems. The following steps can
