Grading Policies for Xavier High School Concert Band and Wind Ensemble 2011-2012 Lessons and playing

exams:
As in the past, there will be assignments for each lesson. Some lessons will include playing exams; for these lessons, sufficient notice will be given. Each student is expected to complete all of the assigned lessons each term. There will be ample slots for make-up lessons at the end of the term. By showing up for a lesson you begin with the maximum of 10 points. Deductions will be made from those points if you come unprepared, show no signs of improvement, or have a poor attitude throughout the lesson. For lessons with playing exams you will be able to receive 15 points per song. The playing exam grades will be based upon the students progress on the music and technical ability to play certain passages. A common rubric will be used for each student.

Attendance:
Attendance at ALL band functions, including rehearsals is required of each student. Excused absences will be granted ONLY if proper notice is given to Mrs. Hardt prior to the rehearsal. Pep Band is required of all band members. During football season we play at the beginning of each home game and during half time. For varsity basketball games we will play at every home game, and each band member is expected to attend and perform at a minimum of TEN games.

The Band Handbook, XHS Band Google Calendar, and Grading Policies can now be found on the XHS Concert Band, XHS Wind Ensemble and XHS Marching Band WikiSpace pages. These can be accessed from the links on Mrs. Hardts Teacher webpage! As a member of the Xavier High School instrumental program, I have read and understand the Band Handbook and Grading Policies. I am also aware of all required events as listed in the upcoming events posted in our Band Google Calendar. I have shared them with my parent(s) and looked for any possible conflicts. I further agree that I am aware of all required performance dates and that if I miss a performance my grade will be lowered by one full letter grade per performance missed. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns as they arise throughout the year. Sincerely,
