Flag Rugby

Game Play: (PE.7.R.6.3, PE.8.R.6.3)

 A free pass is used to start the match or restart after a “try”. It starts from the center of
the field at the halfway line at the beginning of each half. From the touch line (at the
place where the ball went into touch) when the ball goes into touch (put into play), and
from where the referee makes a mark when an infringement has taken place.
 To score in flag rugby you must be on or cross the end zone with your flag on, touch the
ball to the ground and say “try”.
 A penalty try will be awarded if a try would have been scored if there was not foul play
by the defending team.
 When a try is scored, the game is restarted by a free pass from the center of the pitch by
the non-scoring team.
 The player taking the free pass must start with the ball in both hands and, when
instructed by the referee who will declare “Play”, pass the ball sideways or backwards
through the air to a team-mate.

Points: (PE.8.C.2.2)
 A try is worth 5 points.

Rules: (PE.7.C.2.6, PE.7.C.2.7, PE.8.C.2.2, PE.8.C.2.4)

 Once the Ball Carrier has had one of their flags removed, they must do the following:
1. Stop running.
2. Pass the ball immediately, within 3 steps or within 3 seconds for more
advanced players.
3. Replace the Flag onto the Flag Belt after it is returned from the Tackler.
4. Rejoin the game.
 Once the Tackler has removed one of the Ball Carrier’s Flags they must do the following:
1. Stop
2. Hold the Flag above their head.
3. Shout Tag!
4. Return the removed Flag to the original ball carrier once they have passed the
ball.
5. Rejoin the game
 The ball can only be passed sideways or backwards through the air, not handed to
another player. If the ball is handed to another player or passed or knocked forwards
(towards the opponents’ dead-ball line) then a free pass is awarded to the non-
infringing team.
 After a change of possession to put the ball back into play you must tap the inside of
your foot with the ball then make a pass.
 Kicking the ball is not allowed.
 A player has 3 seconds to pass the ball after their flag is pulled.
 Rugby is one of the most popular sport in the world behind soccer.
