Earlier this year Heikki Holmas, the new Norwegian minister for international

development, was given media coverage because of his public statements about his
own playing of Dungeons and Dragons, and how skills are learned in games which have
real world applications. This means that his tabletop games skills will help him in
parliament. (11) Adam Grimm highlights some of the skills and attributes gained or
developed by playing Dungeons and Dragons which include imagination, structure,
performance and problem solving.
But by comparing ‘The Dungeon’ and ‘The Convict’, the writer of ‘The dungeon’
seems to be using more positive language rather than ‘The Dungeon’. The language
also tells us that the intention of these two writers to change the conditions
inside the prisons is very strong. But the different levels of using language
between these two poems may express the different levels of hatred between these
two poets.

Sound then comes into play in his story, ‘loud echoes’ shows us the enormous
size of the pit and the dungeon in general. It also comes into play as he ‘trembled
at the sound’ of his own voice. This shows that the dungeon is normally extremely
quiet, or that he is extremely scared to the point that even his own voice will
scare him.
There are some stories, where the objects that are described or portrayed play
a more important part of the story than what we believed. In The Pit and the
Pendulum, a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe there is certain symbolism that
adds meaning to the story. The narrator is telling the story from a dungeon in
Toledo, Spain as a prisoner during the Spanish Inquisition.
Gap analysis was likewise done prior to the development of an OSH program.
Drago, et al, (2007), stated that the servers in a small college town were asked to
take part in an interview to assess perceptions of their use of nonverbal
communication, how they believe nonverbal communication affects tipping behavior,
and whether or not they received formal training in nonverbal communication
tactics. communication with rapport in the service interaction.
He also describes it as a ‘subterranean world of darkness’, which is effective
as the dungeon was described as ‘damp’ earlier in the story. When the narrator is
exploring the inside of the prison, he describes the one of the smells as ‘decayed
fungus.’ This is effective as the decaying is the plant dying and it foreshadows
the fact that he will also be dying in the dungeon. Foreshadowing is used again
with ‘a sullen plunge into water’, which gives horror as we can tell that this is
going to be his fate.
I think in’ The Dungeon’, Samuel Taylor has used his personal view to write
down what he felt about the prison. On the other hand, in’ The Convict’, William
Wordsworth has a third person been using a third person’s view to express and to
write down the poor condition of prisoners. Overall, the rhetoric and language, I
think the speaker uses in’ The Convict’ displays more hatred than the speaker uses
in’ The Dungeon’.
There is a very intense religious feeling in this part – through the whole time
while the crew members of the ship suffer, this could be interpreted as a time
spent in prison or a dungeon. The ship itself could be seen as a limbo. There is no
way out of it, no wind to drive it forward. Even when the ghost ship approaches its
masts block the sun as prison bars and Coleridge himself compares this sight with a
dungeon: “And straight the Sun was flecked with bars, (Heaven’s Mother send us
grace!)
He then realises he’s not dead and is wandering why they have not killed him
already, and are they going to keep him alive for the next auto-des-fes? The person
decides to get up and try to feel his way around the dungeon, he places a piece of
his clothing on the ground to mark were he started and starts of around the
dungeon. Half the way around the person stumbles and falls over, because he feels
week he doesn’t move and goes to sleep where he fell.
