Chapter 5 Maintenance and Service

This chapter describes the maintenance and inspection procedures for the module.

5.1 Replacing the Module

This section describes how to replace the module as part of the maintenance/service procedure. A new module
must be set up after replacement.

Before replacing this module, stop any communication that may be going on with the devices connected via the
module.

 Before any contact with the instrument rack or module, be sure to touch the metal objects, etc. so
that the static electricity is discharged.

 Avoid any contact with the component or soldered parts of the instrument rack or the module.
Otherwise, it may result in damage to or malfunction of the rack or the module.

 The instrument rack and the module are precision mechanical equipment. Avoid any excessive
shock or vibration.

 Ensure that all the fasteners on the instrument rack are tightly fastened and the instrument rack is
securely fixed.

1 Saves the settings of the module to be replaced.

This information will be used to set up a new module.
(See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting P.20".)
2 Uninstall the module.
(See "3.4 Uninstalling the Module P.18".)
3 Install a new module.
(See "3.3 Installing the Module P.17".)
4 Check that all the module fasteners are securely fastened.
Now, proceed to set up the new module.

5.2 Edit the Module Setting

After replacing the module, set up communication.
1 Write the backup file to the new module.
(See "4.3 Loading/Writing the Setting P.20".)
2 Resume communication from the host network.
This completes the module replacement procedure.

5.3 Service Life of the Module (Replacement Parts)

It is recommended to replace the module after ten years of use at an ambient temperature (approx. 25C) even if
there are no apparent defects. The use of the module under a higher temperature conditions shortens the service
life of the module.

Point PRODUCT SERVICE LIFE

The service life of the module also becomes shortened depending on the surrounding conditions of the module.
Ten years as a rough guide, it is preferable to replace the product at an earlier stage so that the stability of the
system can be ensured.

Point REPLACEMENT PARTS

This module uses an aluminum electrolytic capacitor with the limited service life depending on the timing when
it is manufactured. Please see "Appendix C Replacement of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor" about the target
board and replacement parts.

 To remove and attach the module, follow the steps described in "5.1 Replacing the Module".

 Do not touch the main board with your bare hands.

5.4 Storage of the Module

Store any unused modules in a place where the following conditions are satisfied:

• Location protected from direct sunlight

• Location without corrosive gas
• Ambient temperature: -30 to 85C
• Ambient humidity: 20 to 90%RH (no condensation)

Appendix A Modbus Communication and Register Address Map (VM-742B)

By using the Network Communication Module VM-742B, VM-7 can transmit measurement data and other data
to a computer connected to the host network.
VM-742B supports Modbus/TCP communication and Modbus/RTU communication.
VM-742B always works as a slave (server). The connection of which the VM-742B can establish by
Modbus/TCP communication is only one.

The Modbus protocol has been developed by Modicon Inc. (AEG Schneider Automation International S.A.S.)
as the communication protocol for PLC. For details, refer to the following specifications. These specifications
can be obtained at http://www.modbus.org/.
MODBUS APPLICATION PROTOCOL SPECIFICATION V1.1b
MODBUS MESSAGING ON TCP/IP IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE V1.0b

Communication Overview

Multiple VM-7 Monitor Racks can be connected to the VM-7 Monitoring System with Modbus communication.
In this case, it is necessary to allocate individual IP address in each VM-7 Rack to distinguish individual VM-7.
The IP address can be changed by using VM-772B Device Config via the communication port used for
maintenance purposes located on the front of VM-741B Local Communication & Phase Marker Module.
In this case, you need to assign separate IP addresses to these VM-742B modules.

To connect several VM-7 modules to the network at a time, make sure to set a unique IP address to
each one of them beforehand.

 Precautions for installing VM-742B

By installing VM-742B, you can change the internal clock of VM-7 via VM-742B. The time data in
the VM-7 internal clock can be changed by using Device Config or infiSYS Analysis View as well.
Thus, if time change made from VM-742B is to be used as a standard, be careful not to change
time data from other software.

 If you are not using SlaveID with Modbus/TCP communication, set SlaveID to "1".

 SlaveID must be set for Modbus/RTU communication.

 The Modbus/RTU communication type of this module is half-duplex communication.

VM-742B has the following six functions:

• Function 01 (FC 01) - Read Coil Status
• Function 02 (FC 02) - Read Input Status
• Function 03 (FC 03) - Read Holding Registers
• Function 05 (FC 05) - Force Single Coil*
• Function 06 (FC 06) - Preset Single Register
• Function 16 (FC 16) - Preset Multiple Registers
* Function 05 is used only in the control function (/CTR option) from the host network.
28
VM-742B & VM-742 Appendix A

Overview

VM-7 has the following three items as data for Modbus communications:
• Input status No. = 10001 - 19999
• Holding register No. = 40001 - 49999
•Coil No. = 00001 - 09999
The various status and measurement values for the VM-7 are assigned to the input status and holding register.
They may be accessed via Modbus communications.
This chapter shows the assignment of input status and holding register.

In the Modbus communications messages, the target status register is specified by 0 - 65535 addresses (data
reference numbers). In VM-7, assignment is as follows:
• Input status 10001 - 19999 becomes 0 - 9998
• Holding register 40001 - 49999 becomes 0 - 9998

* The term "Slot 0" in the manual refers to Local Communication & Phase Marker Module.

The address assignment list is shown below.

* This table also includes addresses that are not presently used. These types of addresses indicate regions
reserved for expansion. However, they may also be assigned for other purposes.

Customizing Data Address [Read Only]

The addresses in this domain can be customized by assigning the existing address data to a desired address.
When this is done, the existing address data will be copied to the specified address.
Data can be assigned to any addresses within the ranges 10001 to 14999, 40001 to 44999 and 46001 to 49999. If
an undefined address is specified, "0" will be output.
In this way, the required data can be mapped to a contiguous address, enabling the data to be retrieved more
efficiently.

You can customize address assignment by writing "VZ-77_config.txt" of "VZ-77 Configuration File" (optional)
to VM-742B.
(Point CONFIGURATION FILE FORMAT)
(Point TRANSMITTING THE CONFIGURATION FILE)

Address Range (Holding Register)

 Holding register no.: From 45001 to 45999
* Addresses other than the above are not customizable.

Scaling Constant for Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer Format [Read Only]

Coefficients used to convert the measurement values in 32-bit floating point format (Measure Value in 32 Bits
Floating Point Format) to the measurement values in 16-bit integer format (Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer
Format) are assigned to this domain.
You can customize the conversion coefficients by writing "VZ-77_config.txt" of "VZ-77 Configuration File"
(optional) to VM742B.
(Point CONFIGURATION FILE FORMAT)
(Point TRANSMITTING THE CONFIGURATION FILE)

Address Range (Holding Register)

 Holding register no.: From 46000 to 46999

 If you expand the original measurement value prior to converting it to a measurement value in
16-bit integer format, the data may change stepwise due to problems related to resolution.

To retrieve each setting value, the slot numbers must be specified in advance in the following registers:
Status Name Holding Register No. Notes
Slot No. 46998 Specify the slot to be retrieved (from 0 to 11)
Block No. 46999 Fixed to 0 (If a value other than 0 is specified, no value can be retrieved.)

Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer Format [Read Only]

The measurement values of the individual module channels are assigned to this domain. They are in 16 bit
floating point format.
The measurement values in 32-bit floating point format (Measure Value in 32 Bits Floating Point Format) are
converted to the coefficients specified in "Scaling Constant for Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer Format" and
then rounded off to 16-bit integers.
The values after the decimal point will be rounded off during rounding. In addition, values larger than 32767
will be limited to 32767, and values smaller than -32768 will be limited to -32768.
 "Measure" is the channel's primary measurement value. The overall value is output for the vibration monitor,
and the rotation speed is output for the tachometer monitor.
 "Gap" is the sensor voltage.
If the module is not inserted into the slot, "0" will be output.

Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer Format (Analysis) [Read Only]

The measurement values (analysis data) of the individual module channels are assigned to this domain. They are
in 16 bit floating point format.
The measurement values (analysis data) in 32-bit floating point format (Measure Value in 32 Bits Floating Point
Format (Analysis)) are converted to the coefficients specified in "Scaling Constant for Measure Value in 16 Bits
Integer Format" and then rounded off to 16-bit integers.
The values after the decimal point will be rounded off during rounding. In addition, values larger than 32767
will be limited to 32767, and values smaller than -32768 will be limited to -32768.
 "RPM" is the rotation speed of the phase marker assigned to the channel.
 The 0.5X, 1X, 2X or Not1X amplitude ("Amplitude") and phase ("Phase") are the amplitude and phase of the
component synchronous to the rotation frequency.
 "Smax Amplitude" is the S(p-p)max amplitude.
If the analysis board is not inserted into the slot, "0" will be output.

Address Range (Holding Register)

 Holding register no.: From 48000 to 48999

Channel Status [Read Only]

The status of each channel is assigned to this domain.

 "ALERT", "DANGER" and "NOT-OK" indicate the alarm status of the channel.
NOT-OK of Slot 0 is the phase marker status.
"1" is output when an alarm occurs, and "0" is output otherwise.
 "1" is output to "Channel Bypass" if the channel bypass is set, and "0" is output if it is canceled.
 "1" is output to "DANGER Bypass" if DANGER Bypass is set, and "0" is output if it is canceled.
 "Not Communicating" indicates that data cannot be retrieved from the channel (communication abnormality).
"1" is output for the channel corresponding to the module removed after power-on, and "0" is output for the
channel corresponding to the module which has been specified as unused or which has been removed since
before power-on.
 "1" is output to "Low Alarm Bypass" if Low Alarm Bypass is set, and "0" is output if it is canceled.
(Applicable to the temperature module only)
 "1" is output to "P-P Out of Range" if the measurement range for the eccentricity (P-P) channel has been
exceeded, and "0" is output if not. (Applicable to the eccentricity (P-P) channel of the tachometer module
only)
* "0" is output if the channel does not exist or if the module has not been installed.

communication is only one.

The IP address can be changed by using VM-772B Device Config via the communication port used for
maintenance purposes located on the front of VM-741 Local Communication & Phase Marker Module.
In this case, you need to assign separate IP addresses to these VM-742 modules.

To connect several VM-7 modules to the network at a time, make sure to set a unique IP address to
each one of them beforehand.

 Precautions for installing VM-742

By installing VM-742, you can change the internal clock of VM-7 via VM-742. The time data in the
VM-7 internal clock can be changed by using Device Config or infiSYS Analysis View as well.
Thus, if time change made from VM-742 is to be used as a standard, be careful not to change time
data from other software.

 If you are not using SlaveID with Modbus/TCP communication, set SlaveID to "1".

VM-742 has the following six functions:

• Function 01 (FC 01) - Read Coil Status
• Function 02 (FC 02) - Read Input Status
• Function 03 (FC 03) - Read Holding Registers
• Function 05 (FC 05) - Force Single Coil*
• Function 06 (FC 06) - Preset Single Register
• Function 16 (FC 16) - Preset Multiple Registers
* Function 05 is used only in the control function (/CTR option) from the host network.

Setting Value of DANGER, ALERT and OK Limit [Read Only]

The alarm settings specified for the individual module channels as well as the OK alarm settings are assigned to
this domain.
The alarm is identified by comparing the value against the value specified in "Measure Value in 32 Bits Floating
Point Format". The alarm identification is not affected by the value specified in "Scaling Constant for Measure
Value in 16 Bits Integer Format".

Measure Value in 32 Bits Floating Point Format [Read Only]

The measurement values of the individual module channels are assigned to this domain. They are in 32 bit
floating point format.
This is not effected by “Scaling Constant for Measure Value in 16 Bits Integer Format”.
 "Measure" is the channel's primary measurement value. The overall value is output for the vibration monitor,
and the rotation speed is output for the tachometer monitor.
 "Gap" is the sensor voltage.
 The 0.5X, 1X, 2X or Not1X amplitude ("Amplitude") and phase ("Phase") are the amplitude and phase of the
component synchronous to the rotation frequency.
If the module is not inserted into the slot, "0" will be output.
If the analysis module has not been installed, "0" will be output.

Address Range (Holding Register)

 Holding register no.: From 42000 to 44999

Customizing Data Address [Read Only]

The addresses in this domain can be customized by assigning the existing address data to a desired address.
When this is done, the existing address data will be copied to the specified address.
Data can be assigned to any addresses within the ranges 10001 to 14999, 40001 to 44999 and 46001 to 49999. If
an undefined address is specified, "0" will be output.
In this way, the required data can be mapped to a contiguous address, enabling the data to be retrieved more
efficiently.

You can customize address assignment by writing "VZ-74_config.txt" of "VZ-74 Configuration File" (optional)
to VM-742.

You can customize the conversion coefficients by writing "VZ-74_config.txt" of "VZ-74 Configuration File"
(optional) to VM742.
(Point CONFIGURATION FILE FORMAT)
(Point TRANSMITTING THE CONFIGURATION FILE)

Address Range (Holding Register)

 Holding register no.: From 46000 to 47699

 If you expand the original measurement value prior to converting it to a measurement value in
16-bit integer format, the data may change stepwise due to problems related to resolution.
