Dictionary
Consent:
permission for something to happen or an agreement to do something; if you give your consent to
something, you are agreeing to it.
Cut out and read through the scenario cards below. For each scenario, think about whether you would
decide easily whether or not to give your consent or whether you would need to think very carefully
about whether or not to give your consent.
Sort the cards into two piles – one pile for easy decisions and one for difficult decisions.
Look at the pile you made for more difficult decisions. For each scenario in this pile, discuss with your
working partner why you would need more time to make this decision. Why is it a difficult decision?
Then look at the scenarios in the other pile. Why would it be so easy for you to decide whether to give
your consent or not in these situations?
In pairs, make a list of more scenarios in which you might be asked to give consent to something. Swap
them with another pair and discuss whether you would find it easy or difficult to give or refuse consent.
List your scenarios in order of most risky to least risky. Give reasons for your choices.
