Computer is an electronic device that can be used to process data,
process data and look for existing information.

 There are four basic functions of a computer:


1. Data Processing

Computers to process data sets that produce information. The data that is


processed is usually in the form of documents, letters, words, graphics.

Example: to updating work report.

2. Data storage

To store and secure a lot of data that one day the data will be used again for
processing.

Example: download something from the internet, save files from word or
excel.

3. Data movement 

To send or receive data from one computer to another, so that the data
processing is easier.

Example: from one folder to another.

4. Control

Enter commands into computer systems that are controlled by humans

example: manage the process of moving data.

 How computer work:

1) Input: the process of capturing the information by using input the


computer can do any process.
2) Output: the result, which comes from the transformation process.
3) Processing: to instance of running a program.
 How the internet work

First the computer with the Internet is connected via an IP Address and
as already discussed IP Address is given by the Server / ISP, then we can
open a google address with www.google.com because of DNS what is
DNS? Domain name system is a service from ISP that allows us to
access various websites, such as google.com, yahoo.com.

 Difference between hardware and software


 Hardware is Physically visible, held, or moved, hardware can
be useful if the software is installed
Example: CD-ROM, monitor, printer, video card, scanners,
label markers, routers and modems.

 Software is The form of data that is formatted and stored


digitally, can’t be held, can be seen if it is installed on the
hardware.
Example: Quick Book, Adobe Acrobat, Google Chome,
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Apple Maps.

Both software and hardware both have functions in the


operation of computers and are both in mutual need between
the two.

 Operating System (OS)


 Software that has the task of controlling and managing hardware
and basic system operations.
 Software that manages all the resources on the computer.
 These resources can be hardware or application programs.
 Operating systems are like lives for computers because without an
operating system computer performance will be messy.

 Essential communication platforms and software to use


a. Dropbox
Dropbox is one of the most efficient and user-friendly cloud
sharing solutions.
b. Google Drive
Google Drive is another popular web based sharing platform.
c. Sharepoint
SharePoint is a web-based collaborative platform or an on-
premise software for your employees.

d. Skype for Business


Skype offers messaging, voice and video calls between people
or groups of people.

e. Box
Easily share documents, folders and files from your Box
account through an intranet.

f. Microsoft Office
Microsoft Office is a productivity software for organisations
and individuals.

g. Slack
Slack is a group messaging communication software with real-
time messaging, archiving and search for teams.
