RADIOLOGIST 1

Abstract

A radiologist diagnoses and treats patients by using medical imaging technology. Such

technology includes X-ray, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Computed

Tomography (CT), and Positron Emission Technology (PET). To be a radiologist, there is a list

of certifications required. A high school diploma or GED and a bachelor's degree must be

attained. It is required to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) to get admitted to

medical school; the title of Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

must be obtained upon graduation from medical school. After obtaining an MD or DO from

medical school, one is state certified and must succeed in internship and residency. After all

these steps, an individual is licensed and certified as a radiologist. A fellowship program will

allow for specialization and is optional after completing residency at any hospital; certain

specializations consist of neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, diagnostic radiology, and

interventional radiology. Currently, there are 9,480 radiologists employed in Minnesota, and

there are 315 job openings annually. The salary of a radiologist in Minnesota ranges between

$394,490 and $524,890, with the average salary being $453,690.
