BE | Boss was not yet pleased; Did the performance matter?

Even though this instance did not directly provide an ethical challenge, it did
serve to emphasise the importance of impression management in organisations
and how it may help employees advance their careers when dealing with difficult
managers. Impression management is essential if one wants to maintain good
relations with management in an organisation, but its use must be restricted to
prevent employees from going too far and engaging in unethical behaviour.
In this instance, Raamit was the victim of Pret Sohn, the CEO, not favouring her.
Despite the fact that he was a superb employee and significantly more skilled
than his peers, he was unable to advance in Pret's career because he never
changed his behaviour to suit Pret's narcissistic goals.
He eventually found out that this was the reason he was passed up for a
promotion, and as a result, he left Accardia.

If Raamit had taken the following actions, his career prospects at Accardia might
have been better:
1. He shouldn't have shied away from interacting with Pret Sohn anytime
he had the chance. Pret perceived Raamit's avoidance as haughtiness,
which made Raamit appear unlikable in Pret's view.
2. Raamit had the option of partially including Pret in his task, even if it had
simply been a formality. Due of Pret's involvement, Raamit will be able to
give Pret credit for some of his hard work, which will feed Pret's narcissistic
inclinations and win Raamit Pret's favour.
3. He may have demonstrated his diligence by using exemplification
strategies. Most significantly, he should demonstrate how his effort makes
Pret look better in front of his superiors or how it will make Pret more
successful as a CEO. Raamit will eventually get the favours back as he
works to protect Pret's interests as well.
