PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION

Name: Fatima Jean Y. Garcia Course, Year and Section: BSBA Marketing 1J

Instruction: Create a collage using your OWN 5 pictures showing nonverbal cues
you use with your friends and/or family. Make an essay explaining each of the
nonverbal cues and how you use them to communicate with each other.

Nonverbal communication is a way to express our thoughts or emotions without

words. People can express happiness, engagement, concern, gratitude, and confidence
by responding non-verbally. Non-verbal communication sends cues including our
facial expressions, gestures, eye contact, posture, and tone of voice. There are 5
pictures of me showing the Non-Verbal Cues, which are, smiling, thumbs up. Shock
or surprised expression, waving my hand and sticking my tongue out. For every
nonverbal cue that's shown above, I usually use them to speak with my friends and
my family.
The first one is smiling. Smiling could be a powerful cue that transmits: Happiness.
Friendliness. Warmth. Liking. Affiliation. So whenever I'm with my family and
friends I take advantage of this to speak by showing them my smile that I'm happy
being that they're my friends and my family, I feel the warmth and that I like being
with them that’s I typically smile whenever we are together. Second, Thumbs up, this
one could be a common hand gesture that had been used for 1000 years. A thumbs-up
gesture could be a sign of approval of something said or done by another person. So
I'm using this gesture to indicate my approval when they're suggesting something that
needs approval and if my friends need a signal agreement about the plan. As an
example, my birthday celebration is fast approaching, and they need my approval if I
need to celebrate it or not. By thumbs up movement will convey that message clearly.
Third, wave, Wave could be a non-verbal communication gesture that consists of the
movement of the hand and/or entire arm that folks commonly used to greet one
another, but it may be used to say goodbye. I'm using this gesture to greet my family
and friends by waving my hand like “hello” or “hi” once we meet one another when
there's a gathering or has a special day and when it's time to mention goodbye, it's just
the identical thing, waving my hand in the air. Fourth, is shock or surprise reaction.
Surprise is one of the universal emotions and arises once we encounter sudden and
unexpected sounds or something. I exploit this expression or reaction to speak or to
show to them once they are telling some surprising and shocking stories about
someone or something unexpected.

And lastly is sticking my tongue out. Sticking the tongue can show that you are joking
and teasing someone but sticking the tongue out could also indicate that a person is
being rude or taunting someone . I only use this by being playful with my friends and
my family, when we all joke around and whenever I want to tease them so I am using
this non-verbal cue in a nice way. So every non-verbal cue that's shown is sometimes
I used to communicate with my friends and my family. That’s why nonverbal
communication plays a very important in how we convey meaning and information to
others, especially to our friends and family, further as to how we interpret the actions
of others during conversations. But we must watch out or give off the proper non-
verbal cues, so we don't seem to be misunderstood by others.
