Abstract
A good-looking smile can change someone's life, and being an orthodontist can help reach that
goal. There are currently 1,980 orthodontists employed in Minnesota with approximately 65
openings annually. There will be approximately 5.5% employment growth over the next 10
years. The current median wage for an orthodontist is $163,210 per year. The top occupations at
an orthodontic office are dental assistants, dental hygienists, dental laboratory technicians,
dentists, and orthodontists. There are potential opportunities for orthodontics positions all across
Minnesota but some options in the southern part of the state could be GLK Orthodontics, Mayo
Clinic, Chaska Orthodontics, and the many other orthodontic offices in other areas where people
and licenses need to be obtained. To be an orthodontist it is necessary to finish high school and
obtain a diploma, take a minimum of two years of college, take science courses, graduate from
dental school, and finally pass the state exam and get the license. Overall, the process can be
long and grueling but it can pay off in the end and can be a very rewarding occupation.
