Orthodontist

Ty Chastain
2nd

Why?

Orthodontists get paid a relatively high

salary

I would have the opportunity to have my

own practice

The years of education doesnt deter me

Job Description

A specialty of dentistry that is concerned

with the study and treatment of
malocclusions (improper bites), which may
be a result of tooth irregularity,
disproportionate jaw relationships, or both.

Education
Undergraduate degree
Professional degree in dentistry
Post-degree training program or a 1-2 year
residency in orthodontics

Where I Would Attend

There are only a handful of colleges that

offer dentistry degrees

I would more than likely go to Valdosta to

get a degree in pre-dentistry

Then I would go to Georgia Regents

University

Outlook

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates

that the employment of orthodontists and
dentists will increase 16% by 2018.

This is a benefit since this is a rate above

average and the amount of education may
deter people

Salary

The BLS has the salary of orthodontists

between $100,000 and $200,000

This is dependent on experience, location,

and other variables.

Hours

Orthodontists have relatively easy hours

compared to other jobs; the predicted work
hours a week is between 35 and 40.

However special appointments/emergencies

may happen occasionally

Opportunities

Although you may start out working as an

associate, over time you may find yourself
able to open your own practice.

The possibility to work at dental schools and

train others is also an option
