TALLER 7 REGRESIÓN LINEAL

1. For seven different theatres, the table shows

the cost of theatre tickets and the number of
tickets sold in that theatre over the course of a
week.

a. Find the regression line of y on x and use it

to predict how many tickets, to the nearest whole number, would be sold at a theatre which charged
$20 per ticket

b. Find the regression line of x on y and use it to predict the cost of a ticket, to the nearest Dollar, at a
theatre which sold 35 tickets.

2. Mo is building a tower from wooden blocks.

He measures the height of the tower at
different times, in minutes, after he starts
building.

a. Find the equation of the regression line of time on height.

b. Use your equation from part a to approximate the time at which the tower is 50 cm tall. Give your
answer to the nearest tenth of a minute.

3. The maximum daily temperature at the beach (x°C) and the number of bottles of water sold per day
(y) at Marley's beach stall is given in this table.

a. Write down the mean maximum temperature.

b. Write down Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient, r.

c. Comment on what the value of r for this data tells you.

d. Write down the equation of the y on x regression line.

e. Estimate how many bottles of water Marley will sell on a day when the maximum temperature is
19.6°C.

f. On a day when the temperature is forecast to be 36°C, Marley estimates that he will sell 429 bottles
of water. Give one reason why his answer might be unreliable.
