Position Purpose
Provide direct and indirect patient care services that meet the psychosocial, physical, developmental and general aspects of care;
meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of
professional expectations. Communicate with physician about changes in patient condition, including results of diagnostic tests and
symptomology. Exercises critical thinking skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of organization. Must be able to read and write English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of
measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate,
Skills: ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to perform calculations for
medication administration.

Working Conditions
Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens; Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne/airborne disease; Exposed to
housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals; May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements; Exposed to unpleasant
elements (accidents, injuries and illness); Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; Occasionally subjected to irregular hours.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: May be required to apply and wear safety glasses with sides; goggles; face shield;
respirators/masks; Protective clothing of gown, masks, shoe covers; chemical protective gloves.

Validation Method
Observation: Direct observation by a supervisor, designated evaluator, preceptor or team while the employee demonstrates
O the skill in the work setting, (the preferred method) or in simulated settings, such as skill labs, mock codes, or drills.
Demonstration: Return demonstration by the employee during a departmental in-service, (The key is that the training by
D itself does not ensure competence---competence can only be assessed by performance).
C Cognitive: Written and/or verbal or demonstration of knowledge, I.e. tests, discussions, etc.
R Documentation Review: Review of medical record documentation, written reports, written plans, etc.
V Verbal or other methods as appropriate and applicable.
10. Consult with other health team members and seek guidance as necessary.
11. Demonstrate respect for the dignity and rights of patients regardless of social or
economic status, personal attributes or nature of health problems.
12. Protect confidential information, unless obligated by law to disclose such information.
13. Participate in activities designed to improve health care delivery in any setting.
14. This job supervises the responsibilities of the patient care team (LPNs & Care Partners).
15. Other duties may be assigned.
