Vijay Diwas Celebrated in India to Mark Victory of
Bangladesh Liberation War
• Nation celebrates Vijay Diwas, to commemorate India’s victory over Pakistan in
the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war. On this day, the heroes who sacrificed
their lives for war are remembered and tributes are paid to them.

• On 16th December 1971, the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir
Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 93 thousand troops, surrendered
unconditionally to the allied forces led by Lieutenant General Jagjit Singh
Aurora, in Dhaka after their defeat.
India To Be First Country To Auction SatCom Spectrum

• India will be the first country to auction spectrum for satellite communication,
and it should be designed to attract investments in the sector, telecom
regulator Trai chairman PD Vaghela said. Speaking at a Broadband India Forum
summit on SatCom, Vaghela said the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
(Trai) will soon make recommendations to make permissions required for
satellite communication from various ministries — Information and
Broadcasting, Space and Telecom — seamless to enhance ease of doing
business in the sector.
PM Modi flagged off 6th Vande Bharat train on
Nagpur-Bilaspur route
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off India’s sixth Vande Bharat
Express between Bilaspur (Chattisgarh)-Nagpur (Maharashtra) route. This is
the second Vande Bharat express in the state after the Mumbai-Ahmedabad
Vande Bharat express. He inaugurated the ‘Nagpur Metro Phase I’, and laid the
foundation stone of ‘Nagpur Metro phase- II’ at Khapri Metro Station. The
Phase I has been developed at a cost of Rs 8650 crore while the Phase II will be
developed at a cost of more than Rs 6700 crore.
India’s First Carbon Neutral Farm Inaugurated In
Kerala
• Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan declared a seed farm,
located in Aluva, as the first carbon neutral farm in the country.
A significant reduction in carbon emission has helped the seed
farm, achieve the carbon neutral status.

Tokyo Makes Solar Panels Mandatory for New Homes
Built After 2025
• The Japanese capital local assembly passed a new regulation
which stated that all new houses in Tokyo built by large-scale
homebuilders after April 2025 must install solar power
panels to cut household carbon emissions. Currently, Japan
stands at fifth spot in the world’s largest carbon emitters list.
Iran Removed From UN Commission on the Status of
Women
• In an unprecedented move, Iran has been expelled from the
United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in
a vote on which India abstained. The US proposal at the UN
Economic and Social Council to remove Iran from the panel
received 29 votes, while there were eight votes against and 16
abstentions in the 54-member elected body.
US Announces Historic Nuclear Fusion Breakthrough

• United States has announced a nuclear fusion breakthrough, a


historic step towards the promise of ‘near-limitless’ clean
energy and may help the fight to curb climate change. US
Department of Energy said, researchers at the Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in California for the first
time produced more energy in a fusion reaction than was used
to ignite it, something called net energy gain.
New Zealand govt passes world’s first tobacco law to
ban smoking
• The New Zealand government has passed a law to completely end tobacco
smoking by banning youth from buying cigarettes for life. The Smoke Free
Environments and Regulated Products (Smoking Tobacco) Amendment Bill
has been passed in New Zealand which aims to make New Zealand smoke free
by 2025.

Russia Replaces Iraq as Top Oil Supplier to India in
November

• Russia has for the first time emerged as top oil supplier to

India replacing Iraq as refiners last month snapped up oil from

Moscow fearing a price cap from Dec. 5 could hit supplies and

choke payment avenues.


US prints first banknotes with women’s signatures

• The U.S. The Treasury (United States of America’s Finance


Ministry) has printed the first US banknotes (currency notes)
with two women’s signatures. The new currency notes of $1
and $5 value carry the signature of the Secretary of Treasury
(American Finance Minister) Janet Yellen and Lynn Malerba.
The United States currency notes are popularly called as
Greenback.
World Bank’s Flagship Gender Toolkit Launched

• A Gender Toolkit based on “Enabling gender-responsive urban


mobility and public spaces” was launched in a session
conducted by the World Bank and the Chennai Urban
Metropolitan Transport Authority.
Opening Ceremony of International Year of Millets
2023 Held in Rome
• The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations,
organized an opening ceremony for the International Year of Millets –
2023 (IYM2023) in Rome, Italy. An Indian delegation led by Sushri
Shobha Karandlaje, Minister of State, Agriculture & Farmers Welfare
were present at the opening ceremony. During the event, India’s
ceremonial message by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was
conveyed by Sushri Shobha Karandlaje.

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kaam Karyakram (PMKKK) Renamed
as Promotion of Prime Minister’s Heritage (PM Vikas) Scheme

• The Minister of Minority Affairs, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani in a reply to a


question in the Lok Sabha informed that the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal
Ko Kaam Karyakram (PMKKK) has now been named as Pradhan
Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) Scheme. The integrated
scheme converges five erstwhile schemes of the Ministry viz. Seekho
aur Kamao, USTTAD, Hamari Dharohar, Nai Roshni and Nai Manzil. The
scheme has been approved by the Cabinet for the period of 15th
Finance Commission.
Govt Extends Rooftop Solar Scheme Till March 2026

• Central Government announced that it has extended the Rooftop


Solar Programme till 31 March, 2026. The subsidy under the
programme will be available until the target under the Programme is
achieved now. The government has advised all residential consumers
to not pay any additional charges to any vendor on account of fee for
application on the National Portal or any additional charges for net-
metering/testing which are not prescribed by the respective
distribution company.

Tata Steel Officially Partnered FIH Men’s World Cup
2023
• Tata Steel Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with Hockey India on December 13, 2022 to become an Official
Partner of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023
Bhubaneswar – Rourkela. The FIH Men’s World Cup is the pinnacle of
men’s hockey tournaments. The 15th edition of the esteemed event
will take place in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela from January 13 to
January 29, 2023.
Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal announced as the World
Champions 2022

• Iga Swiatek and Rafael Nadal have been announced as the


World Champions 2022 by the International Tennis
Federation (ITF). Meanwhile, Swiatek was crowned world
champion for the first time, and Rafael Nadal won the title
for the 5th time.

Tamil Nadu CM Stalin inaugurated statue of ‘Mahakavi
Subramanian Bharathiyar’
• Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin inaugurated the statue of
Mahakavi Subramanian Bharathiyar at the renovated house of
Bharathiyar at Varanasi via video conference on 11th
December. Stalin also released a souvenir on his centenary.
Bharathiyar’s 141st birth anniversary celebrates on the behalf
of State Government in various places in the State.
Uttarakhand Plans Genetic Enhancement of Its
Indigenous Badri Cow
• Uttarakhand Government is planning for genetic
enhancement of Badri Cow through sex-sorted semen and
embryo transfer technology with the aim to increase its
productivity. The Badri breed derived its name from the holy
shrine of Char Dham at Badrinath. It is found only in the hill
districts of Uttarakhand and was earlier known as the ‘pahadi’
cow.
BJP’s Bhupendra Patel sworn-in as Gujarat CM for 2nd
consecutive term
• Bhupendra Patel took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for a
second straight term in Gandhinagar. He was administered oath as
the 18th Chief Minister of Gujarat by Governor Acharya Devvrat.
Prime minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers including Amit
Shah, Smriti Irani, and Mansukh Mandaviya, and Chief Ministers of
BJP-ruled States including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the
ceremony.
Mopa International Airport Goa named after former
CM Manohar Parrikar
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated Mopa
International Airport in Goa, which has been named after
former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. The new airport,
which is about 35 km from capital city Panaji, can handle 44
lakh passengers annually. Its capacity can be raised to over 3
crore passengers per year after expansion plans in the future.
Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu sworn in as the new Chief
Minister of Himachal Pradesh
• Congress leader Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has took oath as the
New Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh at historic ridge
ground in Shimla. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also
took oath with him. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar
administered the oath to both.
Tamil Nadu Becomes First State To Launch Its Own
Climate Change Mission
• Tamil Nadu is set to become the first state to launch its
own Climate Change Mission. It had launched the Green Tamil
Nadu Mission last September and the Tamil Nadu Wetlands
Mission this August. A Special Purpose Vehicle–the Tamil Nadu
Green Climate Company (TNGCC)–will implement the State
Climate Action Plan.

SURYA KIRAN-XVI: 16th Edition of the Indo-Nepal Joint
Training Exercise
• The 16th Edition of the Indo-Nepal joint training Exercise “SURYA KIRAN-XVI”
between India and Nepal is to be conducted at Nepal Army Battle School,
Saljhandi, Nepal. “SURYA KIRAN-XVI” will be conducted from 16th to 29th
December 2022.

• Exercise “SURYA KIRAN” is conducted annually between India and Nepal to


enhance interoperability in jungle warfare & counter-terrorism operations in
mountainous terrain and HADR under UN mandate.
India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise “KAZIND –
2022” begins in Umroi, Meghalaya
• The 6th Edition of Indo – Kazakhstan joint training exercise “KAZIND-
22” is conducted at Umroi (Meghalaya) from 15 to 28 December
2022. The scope of this exercise involves a Command Post Exercise
(CPX) at the Battalion level and Company level Field Training Exercise
(FTX) on sub-conventional operations. During the exercise,
participants will engage in variety of missions ranging from joint
planning, joint tactical drills, basics of special arms skills, HADR and
raiding a hostile target.
