In recent Ricoh MFPs and LPs for the vast majority of devices, Java is stored in Flash Memory on
the controller board rather than on a SD Card.

Please see the attached TSB Draft for some information regarding using the tool

Attached to this post are two guides on how to use the Java recovery tools a quick use guide and a
more detailed guide.

While I know many Techs will only come across this issue very rarely, if you do decide to learn up
about as a just in case you need or because you have an issue its well worth ensuring you fully
understand whats going on. So you can plan and prepare appropriately if you do have to attend a
call with regards this matter.

I.e what to check before you use the tool, what les you need i.r the correct tool and the level of
Java you need once the issue is resolved for the particular solution.

If you lose Java when a device has had Data Overwrite enabled please check this attachment
Answer ID 205629

[Symptom] Java is unavailable after a Data Overwrite Security unit (DOS) is installed and during
installation, the memory option is selected to encrypt. Java sd update procedure or any remote
update of java won't work at this time to restore.

[Cause] The ash memory is encrypted and the java software is unreadable/ not accessible.

[Action] Perform a memory clear sp 5-801-17+18 after this java is present again for use.

The following procedure has also been of use for those when Java seems to be misbehaving and
producing sc codes.

User Tools> System Settings> Admin Tools> Enhanced Authentication Management> OFF

Stop all applications, including Java

Disable Java in SP mode SP5-730-001 to 0

Format HDD 'Data for design and printer fonts' SP5-832-009 (usually, verify in manual for your
speci c model)

Perform SCS memory clear SP5-801-3

Return all SPs from SP5-401-160 to SP5-401-230 to default setting

Power Cycle

Enable Java in SP mode SP5-730-001 to 1

Power Cycle

Install Java from SD card

Reinstall applications.
