Metal Casting Process Explained

The document describes the metal melting and molding process in 4 figures. Figure A shows the mold creation using a pattern and optional sand core. Figure B depicts liquid steel being poured into a closed mold with sand core. Figure C shows molten metal being poured into an open mold to take the shape until solidified. Figure D illustrates metal under pressure from a piston filling a vertically placed mold.

Melting Process

Figure A:
There are three parts, the mold with the sand, the pattern that is used to give the
figure to the sand, this in order to trace the mold. And the sand core, used to give it a
hole if you need a piece with an egg in the center.

Figure B:
We have what is already the closed mold, which has a sand core in its center. The
liquid steel is being poured into it. And we can also see the finished part outside the
mold.

Figure C:
In the figure we see a common mold, the molten metal is poured into the space in
the mold, where the shape of the piece is made until it cools. Then the mold is
separated and we get what is already the solid metal that made the piece.

Figure D:
We have the mold which is placed vertically, the metal already in liquid passes under
pressure given by a piston which pushes it. This makes it reach all parts of the mold
to have a good model of the metal.
