Multiple PhD Positions Available – Singapore Management University


Dr. Yong Wang’s research team at the School of Computing and Information Systems,
Singapore Management University is looking for self-motivated students. Our team has
multiple PhD positions for the 2023 spring and 2023 Fall intake. The incoming PhD students
are expected to conduct cutting-edge research on data visualization, human-AI collaboration
and human-computer interaction (HCI). Students majoring in computer science, information
technology, electrical engineering or closely-related disciplines at a reputable institution are

Research Topics
Our team is conducting research on information visualization, human-AI collaboration and
HCI to facilitate big data exploration and analysis. Specifically, we are currently focusing on
the following research topics:
• AI-powered data visualization
• Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)
• Visual analytics for critical applications, including blockchain data analysis, online
learning and video analysis.

Scholarships
All the PhD students will be awarded a full postgraduate scholarship (with a monthly stipend
of up to 5000SGD) provided by the Ministry of Education of Singapore Government.
Talented applicants are also encouraged to apply for SMU Presidential Doctoral Fellowships.

visualization. Since its foundation in 2020, our team has won three best paper honourable

Skills
Applicants with the following skills will be preferred:
• Strong programming skills in Python, JavaScript and other web-based programming
languages
• Interested in the research on data visualization, data analytics and HCI
• Familiar with data mining or machine learning or UX design
