Ecosystem

Abiotic factors: Non-living things. Physical aspects of an ecosystem.

Biotic factors: Organisms in a habitat.

Ecosystem: consists of a community and all the abiotic

factors of the habitat.

Community: Different species that live together in a

habitat.

Habitat: The place where a particular population of

species live.

Biodiversity: Different kinds of species in an ecosystem.

The more biodiversity the community has, the more stable it is.

Facts about ecosystems:

• They tend to have mor plants than animals

• The most plentiful organisms are bacteria and protists.
• The first organisms to live in an ecosystem are plants.

They are small fast-growing plants called Pioneer species.

Succession

Regular progression of species replacements. Rebuilding a habitat after it has been destroyed
or even if it wasn’t inhabited before.
Primary and secondary succession

Primary succession: Succession that occurs where plants have not grown before.

Secondary Succession: Succession that occurs in areas where there has been previous growth.

Difference between Producers and Consumers:

Producers

• First organisms to capture solar energy

• Make their own food through the energy of sunlight.
• They are in the first tropical level.
• They are independent
• They use photosynthesis
• They build carbohydrates.

Consumers

• Organisms that consume plants or animals

• They are dependent
• Obtain energy to build their molecules
• Primary consumers are herbivores
• Secondary consumers are carnivores
• They use respiration.
Carnivores
Eat herbivores
Secondary consumers

Herbivores
Eat plants or primary producers
Primary consumers

Producers
Make their own food
Most plentiful

Herbivores: Eat plants or primary Carnivores: Eat

producers. meat/herbivores/primary
They include pandas, cows, horses, consumers.
zebras, and elaphants. Lions, tigers, and sharks.

Consumers

Omnivores: Both herbivores and Detritvores: Get energy from dead

carnivores bodies and wastes.
They eat plants and meat They are produced at all trophic
Bears levels.
