Indefinite Article - A and A


'A' and 'an' are used if the noun can be counted.

'A' and 'an' are used to indicate a single item. It can't be used with a plural noun.

'A' and 'an' are used if the noun is indefinite.

Use 'a' when the word following starts with a consonant sound.

Use 'a' when the word following starts with a vowel sound.

Definite Article - The


'The' is used when the noun cannot be counted.

'The' can be used with plural nouns.

'The' is used if the noun is definite, meaning that we are talking about a specific person, thing or place.

We use 'the' after an object was introduced for the 1st time, meaning when we mention the object again.
