Topic 6

The increase in the production of consumer goods results in damage to the natural environment.
What are the causes of this? What can be done to solve this problem?

It is no exaggeration that the manufacturing of consumer commodities at a historically

unprecedented rate has exerted aggravating impact on the natural environment on a global scale.
On an individual level, the essay will shed light on the causes and plausible measures for these
hurdles.

The fact that the leap in the fabrication of commodities might be attributable to the harm to the
environment has some unequivocal principles.

One of the prominent culprits concerning this impediment is the untreated chemical by-products
from the manufacturing process and the mass production of disposable goods. In one respect, the
more goods are fabricated, the more toxic wastes and emissions are released from factories into
nature. As an embodiment, water sources will be contaminated, and the air has to face severely
pollution, which results in the deaths of many marine and terrestrial animals.

Another justification for this issue is that in order to accommodate customers’ ever-increasing
demands, more single-use products are introduced, most of which are non-biodegradable. It is
enunciated that regardless of a short lifespan, these products can remain as wastes for thousands of
years, which will turn our planet into a colossal landfill and pose a menace to the living habitats of all
creatures.

Pragmatic initiatives must be taken as soon as possible to minimize the aggravating impacts. One
viable step is that conglomerates should promote the use of eco-friendlier materials. To exemplify,
the giant coffee chain Starbucks has recently superseded plastic straws with reusable alternatives
made of materials like paper or bamboo. Another potential alternative would be that many
governments are also galvanizing the development of more sustainable manufacturing processes. As
a way of illustration, many states in the U.S offer tax breaks and incentives for entrepreneurs using
renewable energy, and some firms are even allowed to purchase green energy at affordable prices
than conventional fossil fuels.
