Credit Hour & Contact Hours: 3 Credit Hours (1 + 2), i.e. 2 LECTURE hours per week for 14 weeks

Learning Outcome Upon completion of this unit, the students will be able to:


Interpret texts in professional settings using knowledge of language and pragmatics.


Develop reports and professional correspondence using appropriate text structures, and appropriate language and pragmatic

choices.


Deliver effective oral presentations using appropriate text structures, appropriate language and pragmatic choices.

Coursework - 60%

Assessment 1 (20%): This is an INDIVIDUAL ASSIGNMENT. The assessment questions will be given on SATURDAY 13 AUGUST 2022. The

submission date is on Sunday 14 AUGUST 2022 via WBLE (end of Week 9). The topic will be on Graph Interpretation.
Individual assessment

Assessment 2 (30%): In groups of 4-6 in Tutorial class, this is a GROUP ASSIGNMENT, evaluating and assessing your ability to work as a team

to solve a problem through the preparation of a technical proposal. This task will start from Week 4 and the submission date
Technical Proposal
will be in Week 10.

Assessment 3 (10%): This will be an INDIVIDUAL PRESENTATION to be done in Tutorial classes. Students are to choose a topic that is

approved by their tutors and present it in 3-4 minutes. This assessment will take place from Week 11 onwards.
Individual Oral Presentation

Final Assessment – 100 marks to be converted to 40%

Section A: 20 marks Reading and understanding a given text of 7 – 8 paragraphs and answering the questions that follow.
Reading Comprehension

Section B: 40 marks Writing of professional correspondence of formal letters.

Professional Correspondence

Section C: 40 marks Writing a short report of based on a given situation.
