Action research seems easy and familiar. Since teaching seems to be full of problematic situations and that the
teacher has a responsibility of finding solution for everyday problem in school, hence teachers should do action
research. This is an exciting part of being a teacher, a problem solver!
Let us continue to examine and analyze what you have noticed and interpreted in the previous activity.
REFLECT
Based on the readings you made and the previous activities that you have done,
1. What significant ideas or concepts have you learned about action research?
I discovered that action research plays an important role in improving the delivery or quality of
learners’ education. Action research allows us to apply our new knowledge in the classroom right
away and allows us to think critically. We can identify problems using action research. It also aids us
in devising a solution to the identified problem. Action research is useful in situations where
continuous improvement is the goal.
2. Have you realized that there is a need to be an action researcher as a future teacher?

Since I’m taking this course, I realized that conduction an action research would be beneficial to me
in the future. I believe that action research will assist me in gaining a better understanding of the
problems that we may face in the near future. Another benefit is that it will assist me in developing
a concrete solution to the identified problem. Literally, action research made us realize that such
problems are unavoidable in any teaching and learning process. Overall, I believe that action
research provides opportunities for new ideas.
OBSERVE
I have observed and noticed that Action Research begins with a problem or a problematic situation.
Write an example of problematic situation that you have observed and noticed.
Since we are in this so-called “new normal”, I have noticed that students are distracted, and because
we are learning online, I have noticed that there is a low level of participation from the students
during the virtual discussion. I can claim to be one of those students. When students study from
home or wherever they are, there may be more distractions that usual, especially if family and
possibly younger siblings are present. Even of you have a class, your parents may order you to wash
the dishes, preventing you from fully participating in an online class. To summarize, there is little
participation from students during the virtual class discussion, and some skills that need to be
learned are unable to be learned due to the current situation.
REFLECT
Since we do online learning, I recommend incorporating a virtual reality laboratory. Students can
still participate in the learning process this way. Another advantage is that they can learn the
necessary practical skills even if they lack hands-on experience. However, it is far preferable is
students can complete the task hands-on. Since we’re in the midst of a pandemic, let’s just go with
the flow and turn things from impossible to possible.
PLAN
What strategies, activities, innovations can I employ to improve the situation or solve the problem?
As a future action researcher, I can plan an appropriate intervention, such as looking for a free
virtual reality laboratory on the internet. I believe that by searching, I will be able to assist learners
in participating and developing the necessary skills. Furthermore, if I come across a free virtual
reality laboratory, I will make sure that the entire class can use it to do some hands-on activities.
Furthermore, I will ensure that they are able to learn the skills required by the topics by guiding
them through the use of the virtual reality laboratory. That is the plan that I believe will assist them
in resolving their problem with low participation.

CREATING A VIRTUAL SCIENCE LAB (VSL): THE ADOPTION OF VIRTUAL LABS IN SAUDI SCHOOLS
Abstract
Laboratory activities are playing a substantial role in supporting scientific learning fields by enabling
students to obtain practical skills through experiments and by giving them the chance to have a more profound
understanding of the content. Although laboratory activities are expensive and time-consuming, virtual
laboratory activities can save money, time, and effort. The Virtual Science Lab (VSL) is a web-based platform
designed to improve learning approaches by introducing a safe and interactive lab environment for students in
middle schools in Saudi Arabia. VSL was found to be an exciting, useful, and enjoyable learning environment
during user trials. It allowed users to conduct experiments individually and to repeat them multiple times if
needed.
