INTRODUCTION

Team #3
IF THIS CONTINUES, THE EARTH
MAY BE AN INHABITABLE PLACE.

Earlier the air we inhaled used to be pure and

fresh. But, due to increasing industrialization and
concentration of poisonous gases in the
environment the air is getting more and more
toxic day by day. The air we breathe can
accommodate a large number of pollutants,
These pollutants can harm health and the
environment, and cause property damage.
02 Inhaling them can increase the chance you'll
have health problems.

PROBLEM Air pollution is the introduction of

GROUP | 127
substances, materials, and radiation from
natural and human activity, the pollutants
with the most harmful effects on health are
particulate materials with a diameter of 10
microns or less that can penetrate deep into
the lungs and induce surface reaction and
defense cells.
The deterioration of air quality depends on
multiple factors, among the most important
is the economic activity related to the
consumption of fossil fuels, the type of fuel,
the mobility and quality of road networks,
and means of transport.

04 TEAM 3
"MOST POLLUTED CITY IN MEXICO"

GROUP | 127
According to the results of the emissions inventory for the State of Nuevo
León, the pollutant sources of air quality are fixed by area and mobile
sources.
The sources grouped by area are forest fires, water treatment, agricultural
burning, use of firewood, bakeries, fuel storage, tillage, etc.An analysis of
the World Health Organization (WHO) on the air quality in different cities
of the Mexican Republic determined that the indescribable title of the
"most polluted city in Mexico" was for Monterrey.
Those emissions not only cover cars but also reach the lungs. Air pollution
represents great damage to society. Long-term effects of air pollution can
last for years or an entire lifetime, they can even lead to a person's death.

03 PROBLEM
As well as entire ecosystems can suffer effects from air
pollution. Consequently, smog is a visible type of air
pollution that obscures shapes and colors. Air pollution

particles eventually fall back to Earth. On the other

hand, the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness carried
out a study on the impact of pollution on health in
Monterrey and Mexico City, and it determined that the
results found in this study show that as pollution
increases, visits to hospitals for respiratory diseases are
also increasing in both cities

PROBLEM
ENVIRONMENTAL GROUPS HAVE EMPHASIZED THAT ALERTS
HAVE BEEN ISSUED ON DAYS WHEN THE CIRCULATION OF
CARS IS MINIMAL AND THAT CURRENT POLLUTION PROBLEMS
ARE MOSTLY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PEDRERA AND THE
05 INDUSTRY.
HYPOTHESIS
AIR POLLUTION IS A PROBLEM THAT
IS GETTING WORSE AND WORSE

We should start with small solutions that defend us as people, things

centered on us would be like wearing a mask outside our home or
buying an air purifier for our home.
Improving the air quality of the Monterrey metropolitan area is an
arduous task, but it is necessary to create awareness in the population
06 about the impact of human activity on the environment and to join
organized civil society, as well as universities and research centers.

HYPOTHESIS
We have to help our city, the place where we live, it has to be also in
Nuevo León, in México, in the whole world, we have to stop
contaminating,

Political restrictions are subjects of which we must use them

better, an example of this is where we live, Monterey, where
urbanization is very advanced and there are places full of
factories in addition to the trucks and cars that cross the
streets every day,
The State, through its institutions, promotes programs and
measures to improve air quality, but it is also a problem that
affects the stability of the economic system, which makes it
necessary for citizens to participate in demanding their
health rights.

08
Green areas are key to improving the health of the population, as they
act as lungs that renew the polluted air. Incorporating the
decontamination strategies that are being implemented, adding new
green areas and promoting urban trees along with controlling
emissions and encouraging more sustainable means of transport will
make our cities cleaner places, and better for our health.

EXPERIMENT
Esquina Verde | 2020

Green systems made up of trees provide

us with a large number of benefits: they
regulate temperature, give us beauty,
purify the air, retain rainwater, are
shelter for animal species and capture
significant amounts of CO₂.
Current urbanism aims to create a
comfortable environment in cities, with
green spaces that promote the
continuity of the ecological functions
provided by vegetation. In conjunction
with other disciplines, different ways
10 have been generated for the recovery of
green areas.

RESULTS

19 WHAT DID WE EXPECT?

RESULTS
A TREE HAS A GREATER CAPACITY TO
ABSORB CO₂ WHEN IT IS YOUNG
SINCE ITS GROWTH RATE IS HIGHER
AND IT NEEDS CARBON TO DEVELOP
ITS STRUCTURES (TRUNK, ROOTS,
LEAVES…), HOWEVER, AS A TREE
AGES IT ABSORBS FEWER CO₂. BUT,
TO MAKE THE BEST SELECTION OF
URBAN VEGETATION, CERTAIN
ASPECTS MUST BE CONSIDERED,
SUCH AS THE AREA AND ITS CLIMATIC
CONDITIONS, WATER CONSUMPTION;
HAVING ALREADY CONSIDERED
THESE, WE CAN CHOOSE THE MOST
10 EFFICIENT VEGETATION TYPE IN OUR
AREA.
Esquina Verde | 2020
RESULTS
A STUDY CARRIED OUT BY THE
UNIVERSITY OF SEVILLE DETERMINES
THAT THE VEGETATION PRESENT IN THE
CITY CAN ABSORB 80% OF THE CO ₂
EMISSIONS PRODUCED BY THE CITY' S
TRAFFIC. THEREFORE, THE
CONSERVATION OF GREEN MASSES IS
VITAL TO REGULATING THE CARBON
CYCLE. IN ADDITION, THESE AREAS
BRING GREAT BENEFITS, AS WELL AS,
BENEFIT PHYSICAL AND MENTAL
HEALTH, INCREASE LIFE EXPECTANCY,
COPE WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES,
PROMOTE CONTACT WITH NATURE.

CONCLUSION

sustainable lifestyle
GROUP | 127

In conclusion, a sustainable lifestyle is

important because it protects our
ecosystem and preserves natural
resources for future generations like air
quality, natural resources, and
community health.
Adequate lifestyle with significant
impacts on national capitals like
economic, social, cultural capitals can
prepare the background for
development in social, economic, and
environmental aspects. Therefore, one of
the best ways of keeping and
developing the national capital is
14 positive attention to lifestyle.
SUSTAINABILITY

Being committed to sustainability

will reduce the carbon footprint
and the number of toxins released
into the environment, making it
safe. Said this, the people need to
prepare for growth and maintain
resources for future generations.
Other examples of a sustainable
living lifestyle are buying items
made using recycled materials or
designed to be zero-waste.

25
LITTLE CHANGES
Consequently, there are many ways we can all
start to live more sustainably, it can feel as
though the big corporations are the only ones
who can make a real difference. When it comes
to energy usage, with clean energy utility
providers, we have the power to drive up the
demand for clean, sustainable energy on the
grid. We can opt for a service that promises
affordable, reliable, environmentally
responsible energy that won’t leave with any
surprises. The little changes we make today
mean a lot for tomorrow to have a better future
27 in the world.
