Introduction
WGSN’s A/W 24/25 forecasts explore how the macro themes covered in our
STEPIC reports (examining Society, Technology, the Environment, Politics,
Industry and Creativity) will filter down to seasonal product development. Future
Terrains focuses on synergies between Industry and the Environment.

It is becoming increasingly clear that we are at the end of abundance, with our planet
struggling to support our demand for resources. In the coming years all industries will
be searching for alternatives, whether it be regenerative crops that repair the planet, or
lab-grown and space-mined resources that have a lighter impact on it.
As designers and consumers speculate about what our future terrains will look like –
either on Earth or out in space – we will see the emergence of products and aesthetics
that appear to have been excavated from the ground or plucked from the cosmos. Look
out for otherworldly encrusted or gloopy surfaces, or references to volcanic materials
and barren lunar landscapes, as well as products that have been stress-tested for
extreme environments, such as packable prepare-wear, radiation-proof skincare, and
solar-powered appliances to withstand power outages.
Biophilic design will also have a bigger presence, but it will shift away from the clean,
green, sanitised aesthetics it has become associated with, and move towards murky
colours and swampy textures, as well as intense pigments, bioluminescent effects and
psychedelic ingredients inspired by biosynthetic innovations.
As more people and businesses explore the sustainable and self-care benefits of
powering down and living with less, we will see sleep and rest mode inform product
development. We will also see a greater focus on zero-waste circular systems, and
Quiltey
designs that embrace the complexity of true simplicity. Like turning off the lights to see
the stars, we will all be looking for ways to strip away the extraneous and admire the
beauty of what’s in front of us.

Pastoral grunge
The concept: as well as nodding to nature and
the ongoing influence of outdoor exploration,
this theme lends itself to a grungier #90s
aesthetic, as activism and counterculture
emerge as key drivers for 2025. Through the use
of #RawEdges and #DistressedTextures, this
Citizen of No Place
narrative moves our S/S 24 nature trends into
messier territory.
Silhouette and styling: grunge pieces such as
the flannel shirt and chunky sweater are
reimagined through a forest lens, bringing Milk Magazine Molo
high-pile textures and nature prints to the fore
to move on S/S 24's Swamp Thing trend.
Reference the over-the-top shaggy sneakers
from Cactus Plant Flea Flea Market, as well as
Loewe's raffia sneaker inspired by the grass- Rejina Pyo
grown version that it showed on the catwalk in
collaboration with Paula Ulargui Escalona.
Circularity: this imperfect direction lends itself
well to deadstock fabrics, recycled fibres and
planet-friendly finishes. Design for longevity as
well as disassembly for end-of-life recycling.
Use materials that have a minimal impact on
the environment, coming from sources such as
regenerative farming, or by using biofabricated

materials.

3
Outdoor dreamer
The concept: continuing with stories that
connect to the great outdoors, this nature-
slumber party direction champions the virtues
of recharging, as sleep becomes more
appreciated for its ability to help us disconnect
and rest. Healing hospitality is a key influence,
GXG Kids
allowing families to restore their mental state
through the therapeutic effects of nature.
Silhouette and styling: lofty sweaters, fleece
zip-ups and cushioned, quilted layers serve as
the baseline of this story, where comfort meets Tia Cibani Iplant
protection. Bottomweights include waterproof
coatings and extra pockets for storage. Adaptive
packability will be important for footwear,
accessories and jackets, enabling them to
quickly transform into easy-to-carry items while REI
retaining their durable qualities.
Innovation: enhance this story's focus on
comfort by exploring weighted fabrics that help
with relaxation, and materials infused with
soothing scents to help aid sleep.

Digitised dino
The concept: while Jurassic themes tend to be a
constant for the kidswear market, they will
begin to merge with influences from the
metaverse and digital realities. This will add a
phygital layer to commercial narratives, as
noted in the Layered Realities theme from our
Big Ideas forecast for 2025. This story moves
Puzzle Play into A/W 24/25, with digital
components that are brought to life through
apps and QR codes.
Dinoland Memento Mori Goods
Innovation: unlock added value in product
designs by layering the digital onto the physical,
or the physical onto the digital. Take note of
brands like Roarsome, which creates animal-
themed adventure-wear for kids, and has
recently expanded into AR wrapping paper that
brings characters to life.
Influences: Dinoland is a Singapore-created
metaverse game where dinosaurs are nurtured
or bought via an NFT marketplace. The UK is
opening a dinosaur-themed park called
Gigantosaurus Land in 2024, which will
encourage sensory play geared towards small
children.

5
Cosmic awe
The concept: In 2025, some businesses will be
looking to space as a new source for materials,
powering what's been dubbed the second space
age. The consumer sentiment of awe will also
be embraced as an antidote to stress,
connecting to 'cosmic awe', which celebrates
Finger in the Nose
the beauty and flaws of the cosmos.
Materials: the comforting and protective
qualities that are a hallmark of designs for
space travel will inspire styles that are worn
here on Earth. Light-reflective materials and Scimparello Magazine Iplant
trims will provide safety, while separates and
outerwear will get a tech upgrade through the
heating and cooling properties of e-textiles.
Metallic silver reflects the abundance of space
junk (defunct human-made objects in space) Nuditos
with crinkled materials adding to the imperfect
nature of this trend.
Sustainability: create lower-impact sheen via
FSC-certified cellulosic fibres, or hyperreal
digital prints that emulate shine and enable a
responsible approach. Use discarded
components, recycled yarns and deadstock
fabrics where possible.
Silhouette and styling: this trend easily Disney Ivy Park ChrisDaCow

Turtle- and mock-neck long-sleeve tees are
layered under crushed velvet jackets, or paired
with metallic bottoms. The images from NASA's
James Webb Space Telescope inspire rich
coloured puffa jackets and a range of
intergalactic printed pieces.
Influences: ChrisDaCow, a Minecraft fan, has
created an entire universe inside the game – a

huge feat in the gamer community. A digitised
take on the universe will inspire pixellated
galactic prints and patterns, adding to the
imperfect nature of this trend.

Mystic marshland
The concept: combine the carefree spirit and
commercial success of #Y2k trends with nature
to create items that are whimsical yet wearable.
This juxtaposition inspires stories where funky
textures are mixed with psychedelic patterns,
using a palette of both vibrant and earthy hues.
Jellymallow
Silhouette and styling: quirky footwear and
accessories are crucial in this story, with
marshland critters, #Mushrooms and vibrant
flora inspiring everything from rain boots to
bags, hats, and hair accessories. Pair graphic Lemon Magazine @lemon.mag
tees with fuzzy bottoms and statement
sweaters, which will work well for both the
older kids' and tween markets.
Materials: play with looped and tufted surfaces
to give items a shaggy effect, using GOTS, BCI JW Anderson

and Fairtrade cotton in 100% qualities, or

blended with bamboo and FSC lyocell. For
separates, use reclaimed melange and bouclé
yarns that are compatible with onward
recyclability.

Future craft
The concept: this story is about transforming
key items into timeless pieces, as we move
toward the end of abundance. Create intricate
patterns through engineered detailing,
resulting in a futuristic crafted look, where
resale opportunities are considered at the front
of the design process.
Circularity: simplicity and quality transcend
seasons, but they also appeal because they
retain resale value. In a recessionary climate,
MM Milano Vivi Design Studio
the concept of clothing as currency will
resonate. Design for circularity by using mono-
materials so that items can be easily recycled,
or materials that will biodegrade safely, along
with dissolvable threads and easy-to-remove
buttons and zippers.
Influences: MM Milano works with a rural
weaving community from the brand's home
country of the Philippines, while using natural
and recycled materials throughout its
collections. Thom Browne has created a
textured suit with strips of gathered fabric,
giving the design an extra-special, luxurious
touch that veers outside of his more traditional
Dior Thom Browne Caroline Bosmans
looks.
Relevant for: suiting, dresses, jackets,
separates, blouses

8
Adventure utility
The concept: an evolution of S/S 24's Nature
Commuter trend, this story continues to tie
#zerowaste strategies to outdoor narratives,
with an added survivalist quality. As weather
patterns continue to become more extreme,
items that are practical, protective and packable
Carhartt x Marni
will provide solutions.
Details: eco-friendly padding shapes puffa
coats, vests and cold-weather accessories, with
little to no quilting detail for a cleaner look. Add
adjustable and transformable details, along Ivy Park Gris
with removable elements. Tabs, cinching and
Velcro will be key details. Use reversibility to
your advantage, along with hidden pockets and
zips.
Colour: prioritise pared-down natural tones for Jósè Monroy

a cleaner overall aesthetic. Bring in warmer

neutrals such as Intense Rust, Terracotta and
Warm Amber as transseasonal shades.
Innovation: explore reflective and heat-reactive
properties for extra interest and a futuristic
edge. Look to #ClimateAdaptive benefits for
warming or cooling, as well as
#WeatherResistant properties.
Relevant for: outerwear, casualwear, knitwear, Meanswhile Neighborhood Kinarino

9
Psychedelic nature
The concept: in an extension of our S/S 24
Tropadelic theme, things get weird for A/W
24/25 as AI-created designs influence a range of
mythical themes, where plants and animals
have overtly digital qualities. Add this influence
over traditional garden themes and you have a
part-psychedelic, part-digital, and part-
fantastical direction, which evokes awe through
synthetic creativity, while still being
commercially relevant.
Nuditos @mrk.ism
Prints and graphics: evolve nature-driven
prints such as florals and plants with a surreal
eye, using fantastical colour pairings and 3D
applications. Work with creators, such as
disabled artist Markos Kay, @prosthetichistory
and Egyptian designer Hassan Ragab.
Innovation: this is driving interest in looks
inspired by synthetic nature and biophilic
design, also fuelled by developments in AI tools
and AI-driven creativity.
