Organizational Behavior is a field of study that the impact of individuals, groups, culture and
structure have on behavior within organizations, for the purpose of applying such knowledge
toward improving an organization’s effectiveness. It basically deals with understanding the
individuals in the organization, group & organizational process. Organizational Behavior is an
academic discipline concerned with describing, understanding, predicting & controlling human
behavior in an Organization Environment.

The contemporary issue we have chosen is a work installment issue which has been arose in
Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. Is an agricultural company, which produces and provides fresh fruits and
vegetables. The company is based on Rajagiriya, Sri Lanka. It is a subsidiary of Dole Asia
Holdings Pte. Ltd, the world’s largest producer and marketer of high quality fresh fruits and
fresh vegetables.

‘Dole’ is a worldwide team of growers, packers, processors, shippers and employees is


committed to consistently providing safe, high quality fresh fruit, vegetables and food products,
while protecting the environment in which its products are grown and processes. This is
performed to supplying the consumer with the finest, high quality product.

The issue is Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. ended up the contract with Southern Force Ltd. which was its
labor outsourcing company. The reason for this decision is that Southern Force ltd. Had not paid
ETF/EPF for its contracted labors over the years, amount to approximately Rs.15 million which
was collected from Dole Lanka Ltd. Because of the labor department had made two cases against
Southern Force with Wellawaya magistrate court, Southern Force Ltd. agreed on monthly
payments to court in relation to their withhold EPF/ETF.

Moreover value-added tax (VAT) approximately Rs.25 million had not been paid by Southern
Force Ltd. although they had collected from Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. To keep with the best ethical
practices and the labor laws of Sri Lanka, Dole Lanka (Pvt) Ltd was compelled to ended up this
contract. (2017)
