(a) Find the equation of the tangent to the curve at the point A(1, 1) . [3]
(b) Find the coordinates of the point where this tangent intersects the curve. [2]

A function is defined by f (x) = Asin( Bx) + C where −π < x < π and A, B,C ∈! . The
following diagram represents the graph of y = f (x) .
(i) A;
(ii) B;
(iii) C. [4]
The sector OAB has a perimeter of 20.4 cm and area of 25.2 cm2.
e2 x + 1
Let f (x) = .

(a) Find the equations of the horizontal and vertical asymptotes of the curve y = f (x) [4]
(ii) Show that the curve has exactly one point where its tangent is horizontal.
(c) Find the equation of L1 , the normal to the curve at the point where it crosses
the y-axis. [4]
At an amusement park, a Ferris wheel with diameter 111 metres rotates at a constant speed.
The bottom of the wheel is k metres above the ground.
A seat starts at the bottom of the wheel.
(a) After 8 minutes, the seat is 117 m above the ground. Find k. [2]
⎛π ⎞
After t minutes, the height of the seat above ground is given by h(t) = 61.5 + acos ⎜ t ,
⎝ 8 ⎟⎠
for 0 ≤ t ≤ 32 .
(c) Find when the seat is 30 m above the ground for the third time. [3]

cos 2 A 9
(a) Given that 2
= , where 90! < A < 180! , find
1+ 4 sin A 89

Farmer Bill owns a rectangular field, 10 m by 4 m. Bill attaches a rope to a wooden post
at one corner of his field, and attaches the other end to his goat Gruff.
(a) Given that the rope is 5 m long, calculate the percentage of Bill’s field that Gruff is
able to graze. Give your answer correct to the nearest integer. [4]
(b) Bill replaces Gruff’s rope with another, this time of length a, 4 < a < 10 , so that
Gruff can now graze exactly one half of Bill’s field.
