Special Assignment
English for Justice

• Choose a historic character that used his or her voice in one way or another
to fight for justice during the Civil Rights Movement. (Selection will be done in
class.)

• Fill out the “Paper Plate Biography” template. (Template will be handed out
to each student at school.)

• Be sure to read and follow the instructions for each section carefully.

• You may PRINT OUT a picture for the portrait or DRAW AND COLOR. You may
use coloring pencils, crayons, or markers.

• In a separate sheet of paper, write a paragraph describing a brief biography


about the selected person. The paragraph should be between 7 and 10
sentences long. It must be neatly hand written, paying close attention to
sentence structure and grammatical mistakes. Use the information gathered
for the “Paper Plate Biography” template. You may also use the following
questions as a guide to write your paragraph:

o When and where was the person born?


o Brief description of the person’s childhood or family.
o Where did the person go to school?
o What is the person known for?
o What are some of his or her achievements?
o What are some interesting facts about this person?
o When and where did he or she die? (If deceased)
o What did you find most interesting about the person?

• The “Paper Plate Biography” must be fill out and brought to class on Monday,
March 13, 2023. Students will create a display garland in class using the filled-
out template.

• The written report must be handed in on or before Thursday, March 16, 2023.
It must include a cover page (school name, name of selected person,
student’s name, grade, group), the written paragraph, and a picture of the
selected person.

• NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED IF NOT HANDED IN ON THE SPECIFIED DATE AND


TIME.
