Group Work Activities Here are some group activities you can take back to your classroom and

use! They are simple and can be modified for almost any lesson! These can be used as work stations or as individual projects. Plate Comic Strip Postcards Groups of 2 or 3. Divide a paper plate into 5 pieces (like a pie). Label each piece around the edge a specific theme. Divide each piece into two by drawing an inside circle on the place. In the outside circle explain the theme using text. In the inside circle draw a picture that represents the theme.

Groups of 2. Read a selected passage or section. Divide paper into 8 equal squares. Break the passage/section down into 8 parts. Draw a humorous picture with limited text that represents each part of the passage/section in each box. The rough draft will be written together as a pair. Each member will draw and write four boxes for final draft. After learning about a location through a textbook or story, students will imagine they are taking a vacation to that place. They will write a postcard home to their family. Side 1 picture representing the place they are visiting. Side 2 a 3 paragraph letter to their family that explains in detail what they see, do, and hear while they are visiting.

Vocabulary 4 Square Students may work individually or in partners. Students will fill in each box with the following o Vocabulary word o Picture o Definition o Definition in own words

Billboard Brochure Groups of 2 or 3. After studying about a specific event, person or place the students will make a brochure together in groups to persuade outsiders to want to visit the location or buy the product. Fold paper into a brochure. Divide the topic into 3 sub topics. The three inside pages are used for each sub topic. Explain the sub topic and add a picture on each inside page. Use the back page as a summary of why the reader should want to take interest in the topic. Groups of 4. Assign each group the task of creating a persuasive billboard about a given topic. Group topics should differ. Each group gets a large piece of construction paper to make a billboard advertisement about their topic. Each group must use pictures, text, key words and color that relates to their topic. Each group presents their billboard to the class. The class votes on which billboard was the most persuasive.

Character Collage Groups of 4 or 5. Cut a very large piece of butcher paper. Assign groups a character to research. Give groups an outline of the character. Students will draw a near life size picture of the character. Each member will add information about the character using pictures and text that explains who that character is. Decorate and color. Readers Theater Extensive Readers Theater instructions are attached. (I use this one a lot! The kids really seem to enjoy it, and they learn a lot from each other during the presentations!) I also have the class answer the questions from each presentation to ensure listening!
