Case Study Questions

The behavior of Corzine

In my view Corzine did not act appropriately. Corzine firstly his actions can be

characterized as illegal since there other methods that can be used to handle company debts

without using customers resources. Secondly, Corzine behavior is unethical since he made the

decision by himself and only involved O`Brien in the act of transferring millions of money to

cover the bank overdraft that was threatening the company. Additionally, as manager he also

failed since although his intentions were pure he had choices such as consulting customers and

even other company stakeholders.

The behavior of O`Brien

Ms. O`Brien just like the company manager she did not behave appropriately she

followed what she was being asked to do without questioning him. O`Brien therefore had

choices such as delaying the process in order to have time to discuss with the manager whether

what she was being asked was the right thing for the company and their customers as well.

The actions of both O`Brien and Corzine

The fact that both people involved inappropriately means that their actions can be

considered unethical. It is wrong for an organization to use customer assets to cover for its debts

without consulting those customers. Additionally, their actions can also be considered as

criminal negligent since the parties involved were fully aware that what they were doing is

wrong and could also have serious effects (Santa Clara University, 2015).

The role of Ethics and Compliance Officer

Ethics and Compliance Officer of MF Company could have perhaps prevented the drama

by ensuring that the company carries out its tasks in full through adhering to the international and

national policies and regulations. Additionally, the officer is also charged with the responsibility

of keeping the firm dealings legally and ethically. Therefore, the officer has to educate the

members fully of what practices are they supposed to follow.
