Hugh Jackman
Most people know Hugh Jackman for his film work. He can act very well and was in many famous films – he
played Wolverine in X-Men and PT Barnum in The Greatest Showman. He is Australian and was born in
Sydney in 1968. His parents are English but they moved to Sydney just before he was born.
Hugh started to act when he was at secondary school but decided to go to the University of Technology
Sydney to study Communications. He only took acting in his final year because he needed an extra subject.
He got a lot of work because he was a talented actor. His first TV job was on a show called Correlli in 1995,
and his first film was Paperback Hero in 1999. The next year, he got the part of Wolverine in X-Men. This was
when he became famous all over the world.
After this part, Hugh decided to take different parts because he didn’t just want to do action films. He also did
romantic comedies and thrillers. He was able to show people that he can do other things. Hugh doesn’t just
act. He can sing and dance, too. He started at the theatre and then made two musicals: Les Misérables and
The Greatest Showman. Most people think his singing and dancing in these films are amazing.
In his free time, Hugh loves doing sport and played rugby and cricket at school. He was good at swimming,
too, and was in the school team. He can also play the violin, piano and guitar. Finally, he enjoys doing yoga.
So is there anything he can’t do? Well, maybe. Hugh says there are many things. One thing is that he finds it
hard to say ‘no’.
