Learning objectives

with attempted suicide.

Setting the scene

Clinical setting: Community - Village

Brief to Ms. Sindhu (18 years old )appeared for a NEET Exam has attempted suicide
candidate: and her parents seeking help from a community health nursing team to help
him to mange her at home.

Scenario (Summary of scenario progression)


description
In a village students who came for community training saw a family in panic

condition where Ms. Sindhu (18 years old) who appeared for a NEET exam

recently to aspire MBBS found in a pool of blood. When enquired she came

to know that she cut her hand with a sharp blade in an intention to die as she

was depressed, she felt it is not worth living after she failed to score good
marks in the NEET exam. It is also noticed that her parents were very strict

and kept insisting her to clear the NEET exam. Ms. Sindhu and her parents

were not prepared to accept any failure. Therefore Ms. Sindhu has taken

extreme steps as her parents were frustrated and scolded her badly which

made her to think of committing suicide. The nursing student provides first

aid, calls to an ambulance and shifts the patient to a nearby hospital for

further care. The nursing students explain how to take care of their daughter

at home to prevent suicide and further suicidal attempts consoled her parents.

She also referred the victim to the psychiatrist. The teacher also counsels the

parents and the victim, gradually convincing them that, NEET is NOT

everything in life. The teacher also explains and provides information about

various other courses and successful personalities in other fields.

 You will be playing the role as the patient with Sucidal idea. You
must exhibit the symptoms of like feeling intolerable emotional pain
 being preoccupied with violence, dying, or death
 having mood shifts, either happy or sad
 talking about revenge, guilt, or shame
 experiencing agitation or a heightened state of anxiety
 experiencing changes in personality, routine, or sleep patterns
 increasing the use of drugs or alcohol
 engaging in risky behavior, such as driving carelessly or taking drugs
 getting their affairs in order and giving things away
 getting hold of a gun or substances that could end a life
 experiencing depression, panic attacks, or impaired concentration
 isolating themselves
 talking about being a burden to others
 experiencing psychomotor agitation, such as pacing or wringing the
hands
 saying goodbye to others as though it were the last time
 experiencing a loss of enjoyment in previously pleasurable activities,
such as eating, exercise, social interaction, or sex
 expressing severe remorse and self-criticism
 talking about suicide or dying
 expressing regret about being alive or ever having been born

with suicidal attempt would be answering in real life
