What is your biggest challenge about making money as a student?

I had to carefully deliberate on the matter before I responded, so as not to provide you
with false information. I believe that my biggest challenge about making money about a
student was the “how to” part. There are a lot of lists on the internet that spell out a dozen
different opportunities on how to make money. It is not strange to see an article listing out
countless avenues on how to make money especially as a student. When you’re at that level in
life where you’re chasing a degree, and you don’t receive adequate support from back home, it
is not surprising that oft times, your mind might be turned towards how to survive and the
search would most likely lead you to the internet in this day and age. The articles list out
several opportunities, most times with little notes under them so that the reader could get the
general gist of what is talked about. These articles don’t delve into details, you have to do some
extra research to really understand what is talked about. Sometimes in the quest to further
understand the subject, you do not even know how to proceed in your research so you hit a
brick wall and are discouraged.

The next challenge I would say that I have faced in making money as a student is lack of
resources. Even the most basic necessity needed to find out how to make money, “data” can be
scarce to come by sometimes. Most of the articles out there on how to make money advertise
courses online that have their introductions free but require an additional fee to gain access to
the full courses and oft times than not these courses turn out to be duds and the consumer is
left feeling that he has been scammed. There aren’t many viable and easy to execute options out
there.

The third challenge that has bogged me in my quest for an alternate source of income is
the time constraint. As an engineering student, I have a certain amount of time allotted to me
that can be spent on other pursuits, so, any other endeavor that I might choose to indulge in
would inadvertently have to fall within my school schedule. It also has to be something that I
can manage while working remotely from anywhere that I am.

The fourth and final constraint that I have faced as a student in the search for money is
possessing the requisite skills needed for “chasing the bag” so to say. There are websites
available like Fiverr and Freelancer where you can offer up the skills that you have in order to
get paid. There aren’t many skills that we learn as kids growing up in our environment that we
can monetize. A very close friend of mine asked me a few days ago if I thought that he had any
skills that he could monetize. He is a graduate, awaiting service. Even after having passed
through the school system, which ordinarily should have been a fount of information, he still
hasn’t garnered any as a result of the lackadaisical society that we have found ourselves in.

I do hope that you find my input useful. Thank you.
