NDSM class exercise reflections
Below are a few disruptive technologies that cam about over the last 5 years and the gains and
losses from each:-

Tesla Model S - The Tesla Model S is a luxury electric sedan that disrupted the automotive industry
by being one of the first electric vehicles to achieve long-range driving capabilities. The car has
received rave reviews for its performance, safety, and sleek design.
Gains: Tesla's market value has soared from $53 billion in 2019 to $580 billion in 2021, and
its electric vehicles have helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Losses: Tesla has faced numerous production challenges, including quality control issues,
supply chain constraints, and safety concerns.

Airbnb - Airbnb is an online marketplace that allows people to rent out their homes, apartments, or
rooms to travelers. The company has disrupted the hotel industry by offering a cheaper and more
authentic travel experience.
Gains: Airbnb has grown rapidly, with over 4 million listings worldwide and a valuation of
$90 billion in 2021. The platform has also helped to boost local economies and provide
income opportunities for hosts.
Losses: Airbnb has faced regulatory challenges in many cities, with some governments
seeking to restrict its operations.

Amazon Echo - The Amazon Echo is a voice-activated smart speaker that can play music, answer
questions, and control smart home devices. The device has helped to popularize the concept of the
smart home and has disrupted the traditional speaker market.
Gains: The Amazon Echo has been a huge success, with over 100 million devices sold as of
2020. The device has also helped to increase Amazon's dominance in the voice assistant
market.
Losses: Amazon has faced criticism over privacy concerns related to the Echo's always-on
microphone.

Apple Watch - The Apple Watch is a smartwatch that can track fitness, receive notifications, and run
apps. The device has disrupted the traditional watch market and has helped to popularize wearable
technology.
Gains: The Apple Watch has been a huge success, with over 100 million units sold as of 2021.
The device has also helped to increase Apple's revenue and diversify its product offerings.
Losses: The Apple Watch has faced criticism over its high price and dependence on other
Apple devices.
