TRUE LOVE WINS: LOVE LIKE JESUS

 Reflection

It's a frequent misconception that loving like Jesus requires you to be a doormat, a wimpy
weakling, or a spoilsport. Some people feel that loving like Jesus requires us to give up
everything, lose out on all of life's pleasures, and suppress our joy. That, however, is not the
case. When it came to love, Jesus set the standard extremely high. He instills in me the values of
loving our enemies, turning the other way, and going the extra mile. That sounds absurd to our
human ears–but that's the point. It has occurred to me through the video preaching that if I wish
to love like Jesus did, I must first open my heart and mind. I need to be able to use my emotion,
reason, thoughts, and sentiments to their greatest potential. Without this kind of utter
vulnerability, I won't be able to bring perfect love into my imperfect life. Because I do believe
that love has the power to change my mind and then eventually open my heart. And when Jesus
touches my heart, my mind might be profoundly changed as well.

It is true that life is all about love, but true love isn’t what you think it is, it is something
that perseveres when all else crumbles because when all else fails, true love wins. The finest way
to live is to love like Jesus did. I believe that when I love like He does, I can take a step back and
see my loved ones and their needs clearly. Selfishness, bitterness, worry, pettiness, and
entitlement may all be discarded. Most importantly, I can transcend our human flaws and enter
sublime love.

 Prayer

Merciful God, bless me with Your love so that I may love as Jesus did; guide me
so that I may display the sincerity of that love by sensitively, compassionately, and
selflessly loving those around me in ways that they would recognize as true love.

Forgive my carelessness and assist me in allowing the same love You have for me to be
shown to others. Throughout each day, may I be a living testimony of Your love. Amen.
