Jim Davis was born in 1945 in Marion, Indiana and grew up on a small cow farm. He attended Ball State University where he studied art and business. After college, he worked for an advertising agency and assisted the creator of Tumbleweeds, where he learned skills to improve comic strips. Garfield was first printed in 41 newspapers and is now featured in over 2,600 newspapers worldwide. Davis has won four Emmy Awards and awards for Best Humor Comic Strip for his creation of Garfield.
