Assignment Title: - Munsell Value Chart


Part I a) Munsell Value Chart: Students will create the Munsell Value Chart using ANY 1
of the Hues from the Munsell colour wheel. Each chip to measure width 1.5 cm and
length 3 cm. The neutral value scale to be placed alongside for comparing values. The
outcome to be planned in the center of the sheet. (Roughly within rectangle of width 25 x
length 35 cm.) *Reference attached.
Objective / Learning outcome:
The main objective of the assignment is to Understand hue, value and chroma trait of the
chosen colour. Become familiar to gradation in colours. Analyse Munsell colour system.

Approach:

1. Visually note and compare the value and intensity of a Chroma to shade of neutral
colour
2 Understand the proportion of neutral colour and pure hue to be mixed, in order to
progressively arrive at desired outcome
3 * Observe the outcome and compare with the reference Munsell value chart of
relevant Hue you have created

Part I b) Colour Psychology: With reference to understanding of colour psychology,
Students to create any 1 of the following outcomes.
i) Create a fashion figure with any outfit of your choice (length of figure minimum
20 cm). Use poster colours to paint the outcome (pencil colour can be used for
slight shading) based on your learning of colour psychology. Add a descriptive
note elaborating the emotion the outcome evokes.
OR
ii) Create a Fashion Brand logo in a rectangle of Length 10 cm and Width 15 cm
keeping in mind the colour psychology aspect. Use colours that represent the
Brand you have assumed. Add a small writeup elaborating the same.

Objective / Learning outcome:


 The main objective of the assignment is to understand relation between meaning of
colours and their psychological impact.
 Understanding viewer perspective while creating outcome
 Apply learning and create outcome using elements with planned relevant context.

Approach:
1. Understand subtle difference between various tints, tones and shades of colour and the
emotions they communicate
2. Learning process of relating colours to each other and anticipate probable colour
mix expected
3. Achieve outcome using right proportion of colour intensity and combination

Points to Remember:
• Students to ensure they try out colours on rough paper and then apply right hue
on the Part II a) Munsell Value Chart.
• Concepts for Fashion figure can be tried out on rough sheet before proceeding
with a selected outcome
• Assignments should be submitted on G-classroom only. No separates mails for
the assignments will be accepted.

• Students will click a clear picture of both a) Munsell Value Chart and b)
Fashion Figure/OR Brand Logo and upload
• Please submit assignment in Google Classroom assigned
• Submit images in PDF format.
