Task 1
Use the diagram o slide 4 and 5 to describe two uses of monoclonal antibodies.
Monoclonal antibodies can trigger the immune system by making cancer cells more noticeable.
Monoclonal antibodies may bind to receptors on cancer cells, removing the stimulus to grow and
divide or may carry drugs or radioactive therapies to cancer cells.

The pregnancy test strip will show a positive test result when a woman is pregnant.
Explain how the pregnancy test strip works to show a positive result.

The urine goes through the reaction zone, where the HCG hormone, which is produced by a fetus
and is in a mothers urine, is attached to the antibodies. Then, when the urine moves down to the
results zone, the HCG hormone binds to the HCG antibodies in the results zone and then binds to
the antibodies in the control zone. Then a symbol is shown in control and results zone, which
shows a positive result.
