Introduction - The mental health benefits of exercise on adolescents

This portfolio aims explore the various benefits of exercise on the psychological
wellbeing of young adults. The intention of this is to shed light on the positive impact that
physical fitness can bring to one’s mental state, and to encourage the teenage population to
adopt healthy lifestyle habits.
As an adolescent developing in this modern landscape, I have witnessed a recent
upsurge in popularity of weightlifting among youths. Personally, I have taken a great
fondness to this hobby, and wish to examine more extensively the long-term effects that it
may have on my wellbeing. In addition, I am studying biology and chemistry, with
aspirations to become a neurosurgeon. I have always been enthralled by the link between
one’s physical and mental state, and this research will expose me to the workings of the
human brain as a result of physical changes. Therefore, theme encapsulates my professional
interests, in a context that aligns with my primary hobby.
My findings will be divided into two main sections: a Reflection and an Exposition.
The former is a reflective short story which tells of a young man whose life was revitalized
by the gym. Secondly, both primary and secondary sources were used to develop a
scientifically-guided informative speech on the advantages of exercise, and what one must do
to reap these benefits.
