35. Swami Vivekananda was born to Vishwanath Datta and Bhuvaneswari Devi in Calcutta on Monday, 12
January 1863. His childhood name was Narendranath Datta or simply Naren. The Datta family was rich,
respectable, and renowned for charity, learning, and a strong spirit of independence. Vishwanath Datta was
an attorney-atlaw in the Calcutta High Court. He was proficient in English and Persian languages.
Bhuvaneswari Devi was a pious woman. She was deeply religious. Narendranath was an all rounder. He
