Utilizing lockdown

For the faculties of JECRC, being at home is an opportunity to regain

what is lost due to busy schedules. It is time to go offbeat and learn new
skills

Daisy Sharma

Jaipur. To contain COVID-19, the nation is following lockdown. It is

not a suffering but a collective effort to combat Corona. Few people
worry that sitting at home can make them unfit and psychologically sick.
But it is not true always. As per experts being at home doesn’t bring
mental depression but it provides time to regain what we lost due to our
busy schedules.
Quarantine has made people think more about their lives and future
goals. It gives time to be with loved ones, take care of them, help them,
and make good memories. The utilization of quarantine days by faculties
of JECRC University is an inspirational message for everyone. They are
utilizing every second of this lockdown. They are reading books and
newspapers, writing new contents and trying to give creative outputs.
They are working very hard to teach students daily by digital means.
Budding journalist of JU talked with their faculties to know how they
are using lockdown days.

Sapna Sharma, Professor, Department of Chemistry, JECRC University

I am a member of the university’s ‘Zarurat’ club. So, I am producing
videos for it from home. I always try to maintain a balance between my
personal and professional life. To keep myself healthy, I changed my
lifestyle by including yoga and prayer in daily routine. To keep myself
fit, I am taking a balanced diet.
Mrs. Nikita Batra, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and
Mass Communication, JECRC University.

Staying at home in this lockdown period doesn’t seem much good but it
is the only solution to the problem of Corona. It is better to be at home
rather than going out and becoming its vector. In these quarantine days, I
have enrolled myself in new online courses to learn new skills. It is the
perfect time to broaden culinary skills also.

Mrs Shreya Agarwal, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, JECRC

University
In the lockdown, I am learning Animation and trying to work more on
drawing skills. I am also learning to cook. These days I have a good time
with family.

Mrs. Krupali, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and

Engineering, JECRC University
I am performing research and reading about technical topics. I am also
trying to develop an interest in cooking, as I have never tried it before.

Mr. Shailendra Pratap Singh Bhati, Assistant Professor, Department of

Journalism and Mass Communication, JECRC University
In these days of lockdown, I am reading a lot and researching more
about the current happenings in our world. I am also trying to gain more
and more knowledge. It will help me in teaching and clearing the doubts
of my students. Apart from this, I am also trying to learn cooking.

Dr. Bhawna Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of CSE

I am trying to interact more and more with my students to clear all their
doubts. I have also enrolled myself in online courses to learn new skills.
The faculties of JECRC University are working hard and it is something
everyone must learn from them.

Love, Affection, Discipline and Swadhyay are the mantras of

success.
Prof. D.P. Mishra, President of JECRC University says while
addressing JMC students.

Vaishali Singh
Jaipur.  Love, affection and self-discipline are the secrets of success.
Non-violence (Ahimsa) is a powerful tool to defeat the enemy
and truth is the real power, said Prof. D.P Mishra, the President, JECRC
University, Jaipur while motivating students. He interacted with the
students of Journalism and Mass Communication Department on April
04. While addressing students, he emphasized on Gandhian Journalism.
He discussed the values and ethics of journalism as suggested by
Mahatma Gandhi. He also explained the significance of common sense
while making decisions and solving problems.
This world is created by the combination of matter, energy and
consciousness. Consciousness comes due to love and affection. They are
the real cause of creation. The earth is surviving due to these emotional
bonds only. Without them, it is not more than barren land.
A lion can be cruel to anyone but it never harms its cub. If a strong
animal attacks on the calf, mother buffalo tries to save him. This all is
happening due to these two powerful bonds. He says “Prabhuta Prem se
aati hai, Parakram se Nahi”. ‘Prem’ can be achieved
by Shiksha and Vidya. These are two different approaches to learning.
The former is related to getting knowledge while the latter deals with the
application of knowledge in life. One is theoretical while other is
practical.
To get Shiksha and Vidya, it is very important to read the books.
Swadhyay (Self-study) and discipline are keys to success. The moment at
which one becomes indiscipline, damage starts. He advised students to
study a lot, show love and affection to the parents and teachers and
practice discipline.

Suicide rates likely to increase amidst this pandemic: Study
JU news, Jaipur.

‘Amidst the corona outbreak, where the whole world is locked inside their homes,
as difficult as it is for the extroverts to stay locked up inside their houses, it is
equally difficult, if not more for the introverts with mental illness.

Yes, it is true that introverts like staying indoors and avoid socializing as much as
possible but they also need their share of meeting people and socializing. The
stereotypes regarding us introverts are pretty cliché. In simply put words, we also
like to socialize but our circle is small, it is also one of our needs, but our bar gets
charged easily.

Mental health is really important and the death rates are spiking up due to this
outbreak of COVID-19. Mental health is at stake when our routine is disturbed.
We, unlike others, spend less time socializing and more time working on ourselves.
We daily need distractions in order to stop our mind from overthinking (not sure if
that works), keep our mind healthy (not sure again if that works too) and give it the
needed time of socializing.

This sudden outbreak where we are asked to isolate ourselves, not step out of the
house at all is adding a lot to our already disturbed minds. Some who deal with
urge of self-harm are more likely to sway towards the thoughts; the ones dealing
with anxiety are having it hard because of the panic created, the ones getting help
now have no idea what to do and how to survive this – they’ve lost their direction.

A study by an AUS professor shows the online classes are putting a lot of pressure
on the students and the ones having it hard already, are at the verge of giving up.
Teachers are being extra harsh on the students and assigning them extra work and
assignments in the name of ‘preparing you for a hard time’; while they stay
completely unaware of the pressure they’re laying upon the mind of the students.
The students are not being lazy neither do they have a bunch of free time on their
hands while sitting at home- you’re not aware of their mental condition. Not
everyone is mentally fit, not everyone has the capability of handling pressure and
panic well.

It is not at all easy for us; we are struggling as much as you do. Mental health is as
important as physical health. As an introvert who is struggling with mental illness
and has nowhere to go to seek help, I’d ask you all to check up on your friends and
family. Some of us are not okay. We might know how to stay indoors and have fun
without going out, but we don’t know how to handle the outbreak of a pandemic
with our thoughts being too heavy inside our heads. We don’t know how to ask for
help. Talk to us because we’re not having it easy either.’- An Introvert dealing with
mental health issues.
