George Milton is described as being small, he wears denim and a hat,

and he has a thin and bony nose. In the story he is one of the main
characters who is shown to have both strengths and weaknesses.
Firstly, one of his strengths is that he takes responsibility and cares for
Lennie. For example, he is the one who thinks quickly and directs the
men in the wrong direction when they want to lynch Lennie. He also
carries their work cards and protects Lennie whenever he can. This
shows that George is a good friend, which is especially important during
this time, as men often travelled alone. George however, makes sure
sure Lennie is well looked after.
On the other hand, he also has weaknesses, one of which is that he is
too hopeful. Throughout the book, George talks with Lennie about their
dream to buy their own piece of land. The dream is repeated many
times and George even allows other characters (Candy) to join in their
dream. This is a weakness because the dream is unrealistic and he allows
others to get their hopes up for no reason. In the end the dream doesn't
come true, which emphasizes his weakness even more.

What is the significance of Dreams?

 Shows how people had dreams in 1930s America
 American Dream
 Provides hope and motivation
In the novel 'Dreams' play a very important part. Many of the characters
have dreams. Moreover, in America in the 1930s, everyone had 'The
American Dream', that life in America is good and that anyone can
achieve their dreams.
The main characters, George and Lennie both share a dream. They want
to own their own piece of land and to become their own bosses. They
want the freedom to do what they want and to be able to spend their
own money how they like. This dream gives them hope and motivation
throughout the novel. However, the dream is not realistic. Lennie even
asks for different coloured rabbits. This shows us that even though they
have a dream, it is unlikely to come true, which is reflected in the
Depression which took place at that time.
Another character with a dream is Curley's Wife. Her dream was to be a
Hollywood Movie star. She doesn't fulfill her dream; she marries Curley
out of desperation and she is killed by Lennie. This represents how her
dream was also unrealistic and as a woman in America at the time, it
was too hard for her to fulfil her dreams.
