Important advice to follow the defined brush block replacement
criteria at all SOMATOM go. systems

Description
With this SKB entry we have to address an important but also serious issue that could result in severe system
problems, if the defined rules are not followed correctly.
 
What is the issue & problem?
The monitoring of the SOMATOM go installed base showed us clear signs that at numerous systems the defined
replacement rules for the brush block seem to be either misinterpreted, misunderstood or not followed correctly,
because we do not see the expected number of brush block replacements!
The evaluation of the spare parts consumption of the relevant brush blocks in relation to the actual operating time of
the installed systems shows that there is a big mismatch.  
And this only can mean that systems must have the brush block installed longer that the allowed maximum of 3
years!
R&D clearly pointed out that ignoring and/or exceeding the 3 years maximum operating time could cause severe
trouble and irreparable damage to the slip ring as well as cause secondary effects & problems to the system,
resulting in high service efforts and system downtime.
The slip ring tracks are supplied with an oil film that assures a reliable contact of each brush to the slip ring track.
But if a brush block is operating over 3 years the oil film will be used up and disappear. And then a stable & solid
contact can no longer be guaranteed. As a consequence the brushes will start causing sparking effects and burning
marks on the slip ring tracks.
 
Therefore we see an urgent need to clearly point out the replacement criteria for the brush block once more just to
eliminate any possible misinterpretation and/or misunderstanding.

Resolution
What are the brush block replacement criteria?
A brush block replacement at the SOMATOM go Systems is required:
 
After a total count of maximum 36 Mio. gantry rotation cycles
OR
at the latest after 3 years operating time!
WHATEVER LIMIT IS REACHED FIRST !!!
 
Therefore please strictly follow these brush block replacement criteria at SOMATOM go!
It will on one hand assure an efficient usage of the brush block, save unnecessary cost and still assure a reliable
system operation.
Please take this issue very seriously!

How to check the gantry rotation count?
Load the table T10F in Table load/modify and check the value of GmpGantryRotationCount.
ALL the parameters in T10F cannot be reset!
