1. INTRODUCTION
This manual provides an overview of the installation processes for the SmartScore AW advanced application
software option. The SmartScore application is designed to run on the GE AW platform continuum. This guide
makes references to all the appropriate standard Advantage Workstation service manuals for more detailed
information about installing an advanced application software option on the AW. The current revision of the
appropriate AW Service Manual should be used when installing this software.
This revision of this manual is released with and for the SmartScore 4.0 and forward revision product.
Because of the now relatively long history of the SmartScore product, there are legacy revisions of
SmartScore (pre-4.0) in the INSTALLED BASE that can and will exist. SmartScore 3.3 should be the
earliest revision in the INSTALLED BASE (3.3 replaced 3.2 with a now terminated FMI). The various
installation and service processes in these legacy SmartScore revisions that deviate from the current and
standard advanced applications service requirements can be found in this direction in section 9 entitled
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS.
Be sure to read section 9 for the revision of SmartScore that you have, especially if dealing with a legacy
(pre-4.0) revision of SmartScore.

SMARTSCORE AW ADVANCED APPLICATION GENERAL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

SmartScore is an integrated post processing software application running on GE Advantage Windows

workstations to visualize cardiac anatomy and coronary structure, identify the presence of coronary artery
calcifications, and measure and score the regional and global coronary calcifications. The software also captures
patient information with a CACS score, relating the results to certain risk range, and reporting or distributing the
results to patients and to referring physicians in the form of an HTML file or portable document format (pdf).
Included is the capability to open the resultant document in ‘MS Word’ or in an email. The results can also be
stored in an easy-to-use and ready accessible database for further analysis or follow-up examinations. The latest
revision of this advanced application program aims at achieving leadership in cardiac imaging by improving our
calcification scoring software “SmartScore”. The new Mass Score early results show improved relability &
reproducibility of calcium score compared to the other scoring algorithm. This new algrothim along with the other
features will deliver unique clinical benefits to our customer-base while maintaining market leadership.

2. INSTALLATION OVERVIEW
2.1 INSTALLING AW ADVANCED APPLICATIONS

Installing AW Advanced Applications Software involves 3 general activities:

1. Identifying the Global Order Number (GON) for the purchased software option, and
identifying the host-Id or license-ID of the AW that the option is to be installed on - if it
is to be enabled at this time.
• The option - as well as all purchased AW options - should come with
paperwork that may include one or more license key number strings. The
license will be in one of two forms:

o Either in the “default” aw license key form (an 8 to 10 digit number string)
– relative to SmartScore revisions up to and including SmartScore 3.5
o Default license string name - SmartScore
o Example default license - 3945160921
o Or, the newer “CoLA” aw license form (a 16 digit alpha-numeric license
string) – relative to ss4.0 and forward
o CoLA license string name – SmartScore_40
o Example CoLA license - 4R9SU2OLRB39GKZH
a) These license key numbers are calculated from the AW system’s license-ID
and can only be created if the following 2 data points exist:
• The Global Order Number for the purchased option.
• The license-ID of the target Advantage Workstation.

b) The software package may include a portable media device with the license key
information on it if the license(s) have already been created. This media might
also be blank - if the license(s) were not created in advance.

Additionally, the license key information will be available (or can be created) online
at the eLicense website link by searching under the Global Order Number or the
workstation’s license-ID: http://elicense.gehealthcare.com/elicense/

• At least one of these elements is necessary to enable the software:

i. The paperwork license key information.
ii. The portable media device with the license key information.
iii. OnLine - eLicense license key information

c) If the application’s license key number is in paperwork form, it can be typed in

during the application software installation using the “easy install” installation
process that is outlined within the Advantage Workstation Service Manual.

d) If there is a portable media license key device, it can be used during the Easy
Install software installation to enable the application software. The media device
should be inserted - then launch Easy Install – then click on INSTALL in the Easy
Install Graphical User Interface (GUI). The license key pop-up window should
appear with the key string filled in – then click OK.

LSK DOC0280805 3 1 11/30/07 18 of 39

Direction 2224901 SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual

• Note: the media device can be examined on a PC - or via the AW’s

OS command-set. The license key number(s) can then be visually
read from the config.txt file (if it is there), and or written down for
input during the installation if necessary, and for future system
investigations or backup.

e) If the license data is found (or created) on eLicense, it can be written down and
typed in as in item (c) or saved to portable media device for use as in item (d).

2. Loading, and Enabling the CDROM application software package.

3. Loading (only) the CDROM application software package to the hard disk for future
use. The load should commence if INSTALL is clicked, the license key pop-up field is
not selected (left as is), no license media is installed, and OK is clicked.

2.2 SMARTSCORE 4.0 AND FORWARD ONLY - LICENSING INFORMATION

• SmartScore 4.0 is a separate product from SmartScore 3.5. It is uniquely

licensed. Existing SmartScore 3.5 licenses already generated for any given AW
WILL NOT WORK ON SMARTSCORE 4.0. SmartScore 4.0 must have a new CoLA
license generated from its purchase catalog number whenever it is installed for
the first time and/or over an existing SmartScore 3.5 installation.
• Smartscore 4.0 supports individual (node-locked) or Floating License (network)
implementation.
• The node-locked software license key is calculated for the AW workstation on which
the application will run as a function of the workstation hostid, more commonly called
licenseId now.
• Floating license provides the ability to use an application on several AW’s,
corresponding to the number of floating licenses purchased by the customer. For
installation in Floating license mode, the software license key is calculated and
installed on the Floating License server. The application will be installed in ‘network’
mode on the AW workstations that will support the floating license.
• CoLA stands for “Common Licensing Application.” CoLA will eventually replace the
current “legacy” or “AW Default” licensing scheme for ALL applications. Visually – here
are the differences between the two:
o Example license formats:
Legacy – 3945160921
CoLA – 4R9SU2OLRB39GKZH
• Software “support” for CoLA licensing IS “native” to the AW4.4 platform. It is NOT
“native” to the AW4.2P (AW4.2_06, AW4.2_07/08) or AW4.3 (AW4.3_04-07).
o For this reason, SmartScore 4.0 will install CoLA support on AW4.2P and
AW4.3
o It will NOT install CoLA support for AW4.4.
NOTE:
CoLA could also already be installed on the AW via the Floating License Server CDROM
installation.

3. ADVANCED APPLICATIONS SOFTWARE

INSTALLATION PREPARATION
IMPORTANT BEST PRACTICE:

Note:
• AW up through AW4.0 uses a CONFIGURATION FLOPPY (Informational only).
• AW4.1, 4.2 & 4.3 use a CDROM CONFIGURATION media while also supporting a
LICENSE floppy.
• AW 4.4 and forward will use a CDROM CONFIGURATION media, but will also employ
a USB-Flash-Drive as a portable “LICENSE” media – NO floppy support.

Create an AW ‘CONFIG’ & “LICENSE” back-up NOW and AFTER the

application software installation for use as needed throughout this and
other AW service activities.

The configuration and / or license media can be examined on a PC or in a command window

on the AW if need be:

To view configuration/license information on Windows PC –

Simply use a windows based text reader like WORPAD, INTERNET EXPLORER, or
MSWORD – and open the portable media config.txt file.

To view configuration/license information on an AW system –

NOTE: The method for mounting a portable media device (whatever it happens to be) may vary
from AW platform to platform. Following are “general” linux command examples…

Open a command window, and at the prompt perform the following:

su –
Password ‘operator’

For a FLOPPY portable media: For a CDROM portable media:

mount /mnt/floppy mount /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/floppy cd /mnt/cdrom
more config.txt cd (“backup directory name”)
cd / more config.txt
umount /mnt/floppy cd /
unmount /mnt/cdrom

For a USB portable media (AW4.4 >):

cd /media Device should be auto mounted (mount /dev/sdd1)
more config.txt (or some variant of config.txt)

At the time of this writing, this information is applicable. Be aware that changes may occur from
platform revision to platform revision. Consult the current AW SM to be sure…

5. INSTALLATION & UN-INSTALLATION

5.1 INTRODUCTION
SmartScore software gets installed on the AW platform essentially the same as any other
AW Advanced Application.

5.2 SMARTSCORE 4.0 LICENSING NOTE

eLicense treats AW4.2 and AW4.2P as the same platform – that is, eLicense only allows
selection of AW4.2 for license creation.
However, when the SmartScore 4.0 application cdrom is installed, the ADMIN > INSTALL
PACKAGE > CDROM CONTENTS screen will state something to the effect:

Installation of “*********” software for AW4.2P or Higher

If you attempt to install SmartScore 4.0 on an AW4.2 or earlier AW revision – even

though you will have a valid license key - the installation will be terminated with a
message indicating detection of the wrong platform.

5.3 SMARTSCORE REPORT CUSTOMIZATION INFORMATION

In the “PREFERENCES” tab, one of the tasks that a user may require support on is the
importing of a “LOGO” file for their report customization. Essentially, the portion of the
Operator’s Manual that covers this - and other SmartScore template manipulations - is the
chapter entitled “Preferences.” Here there is the option for the customer to enter their
hospital address information, and “logo” if they desire.

This “logo” requires a graphic file in one of two formats – GIF (Graphics Interchange
Format), or JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) format. All other size, color, and
quality aspects of this file are up to the user to manipulate.

To install the “logo” file, simply save the logo file to a location in the AW file system, or on
a cdrom media. In the Preferences tab single click on the current logo, or the “BROWSE”
button below it. A browser window will appear which will allow the selection of the logo file
from the cdrom, or from navigating the file system. Select the file name, then select OPEN,
and the new logo will appear.

NOTE: Some Pre-SmartScore 4.0 revisions may use a floppy media instead of a cdrom.

5.4 SMARTSCORE MANUAL COMMAND-LINE INSTALL / UNINSTALL SCRIPTS

For remote functionality or for an alternative to the easy install tool, there are command-
line installation and un-installation scripts available in /export/home/sdc/install
These install scripts will only exist IF SmartScore has already been loaded on the AW at
some time. The initial installation has to be done via the Install Package / Easy Install tool
with the application cdrom.

GE Healthcare CSE IB/NPI SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual

Author Document Name Rev Ver Date Sheet

LSK DOC0280805 3 1 11/30/07 22 of 39

Direction 2224901 SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual
Additionally, the exact functionality of the install scripts will depend on the revision
of SmartScore installed (see the uninstall –all information below & also see section
9 for “Special Considerations” relative to each SmartScore revision).

Here is a summary of how the command-line scripts work -

• install.sscore KEY
o KEY = license number to enable software
If no KEY, it will FAIL with a missing or bad SmartScore “password” – This
means license key…
NOTE: There is no provision to use a local portable license media here since
the intent is for remote functionality anyway.

• uninstall.sscore Un-install & retain SmartScore files for future hard disk install.

• uninstall.sscore –all Un-install ALL SmartScore “functional” FILES - will need

the application cdrom to re-install. (SmartScore 3.5_L_4015 & 4.0 & forward only)

5.5 SMARTSCORE UN-INSTALLATION OPTIONS SUMMARY

5.4.1 UNINSTALL OPTION 1

Use the ADMIN – INSTALL PACKAGE – EASY INSTALL / HARD DISK –
UNISTALL APPLICATION feature. This will remove the application from active
availability, but retain the installation files for re-installation from the Hard Disk
Menu. Of course, the application could be re-installed from the CDROM at any
time also.

5.4.2 UNINSTALL OPTION 2

Command-line /export/home/sdc/install/uninstall.sscore does essentially the
same thing as option 1, only it is a command line, and does not require the Easy
Install GUI.
5.4.3 UNINSTALL OPTION 3
(SmartScore 3.5_L_4015 & 4.0 & forward revisions ONLY)
If it is desired to TOTALLY remove the SmartScore functional files from the AW:
/export/home/sdc/install/uninstall.sscore –all

7. ADVANCED SOFTWARE APPLICATION

OPERATION AND DEMO EXAM
INFORMATION
It is beyond the scope of this document to detail the correct operation of this advanced software
application. See the specific application’s operator’s manual - or - user’s guide(s) for
identifying, and or creating the appropriate scan data sets or ‘DEMO’ exams to test the
application, and further detailed software functionality.
For this purpose, there is a DEMO EXAM CDROM that should accompany the normal product
structure for this application. This demo exam data set can be queried and loaded on to the AW
for basic application LAUNCH testing, and basic application functions. Again, see the user’s
guide for descriptive operability.

7.1 SERVICE LAUNCH TEST INFORMATIONAL NOTE

With regard to SmartScore 4.0 “basic launch” testing there is something new: SmartScore
calculates the mass of calcification in the coronary vessels, which is a risk predictor of possible
coronary problems. In order to do this, the software requires a co-relation factor between pixel
intensity and the density of calcium. To establish this, the user scans a QRM calibration
phantom to calibrate this relationship.

If this calibration factor is not present when the “launch testing” is done (as when using the
DEMO exams), a pop-up will be presented asking the user to first select the patient size. For
this purpose, any patient size selection will work. Then click APPLY to the default values in the
‘Calibration’ pop-up window. A default calibration will be applied, and SmartScore should
launch successfully.

8. INSTALLATION FINISH TASKS &

INFORMATION
8.1 SMARTSCORE PRINTING

All current SmartScore revisions (3.3 through 4.0) will use whatever postscript and or dicom
printers successfully configured on the AW platform on which SmartScore is installed. There
are no printer configuration processes to establish, save, or restore within the SmartScore
application. The installed devices are detected and available for use. If SmartScore does not
detect an expected printer, there is likely an issue with the installation of that device on the
platform.

8.2 SMARTSCORE DOCUMENTATION

• SmartScore 4.0 and forward ONLY - This service manual will be loaded onto the AW
platform when this software option is installed. It can be accessed at anytime via the
ADMIN pull-down > SERVICE DOCS.
• SmartScore 4.0 and forward ONLY -This service manual can also be viewed on a PC
directly off of the application cdrom.
• This “Advanced Application Software” SM is actually chapter 5 of the overall SmartScore
Option Direction 2224901 – revision 6 – which can also be ordered for hardcopy use if
necessary.

8.3 GIB AND INSITE

• The AW and the ALL “production” applications must be entered into GIB (Global
Installed Base) database after the initial successful installation in order to fulfill
product-tracking requirements.
• The AW must have a service-generated system ID to do this.
PLEASE COMPLETE THIS ASAP AND ENTER THE AW SYSTEM, AS WELL AS THIS
SOFTWARE OPTION’S PRODUCT LOCATOR / ICD CARD MODEL AND SERIAL
NUMBER INTO GIB!
FAILURE TO ENTER THE SYSTEM AND ITS SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS INTO GIB
will result in GE Healthcare being in violation of FDA tracking compliance, and this
system will not be in the affectivity list for future upgrades. The OLC AW Support
line can direct you as to how to get GIB updated correctly if you do not know how.
Here is the global GIB link: GIB : http://gib.gehealthcare.com
• Additionally, it is more and more advantageous to have the AW Workstation on a
broadband connection to the GE ILINQ CENTER. Remote system and software trouble-
shooting, future software and patch downloads, Tip Virtual Assistant (TVA), and other
essential tools are now available, and are coming available. Please have the AW system ID
established, and drive broadband ILINQ connectivity ASAP if at all possible.
Again, the OLC AW Support line can direct you as to how to get these things correctly up
and running if you do not know how.

9. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
9.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter is meant to provide installation and service information about the various legacy
SmartScore revisions in the INSTALLED BASE. For the purpose of this manual, “legacy”
SmartScore revisions are defined as PRE-SMARTSCORE 4.0.
This information is not intended to replace the standard AW advanced applications installation
details in the AW SM. It is intended to provide information about the various SmartScore
revisions, their particular considerations, and their deviations from one another and the AW
SM.
The base INSTALLED BASE SmartScore legacy product is SmartScore 3.5. ALL
SmartScore installations should be ‘at least’ at the latest 3.5 revision for the platform.
This manual (this section) supports SmartScore revision 3.3 only because the
SmartScore 3.3 to SmartScore 3.5 upgrade was not mandatory. Rather, it was deployed
via an “ON-DEMAND-No-Charge-SmartScore-INSTALLED BASE-Upgrade-CAT” (B79971JD)
for current SmartScore 3.3 customers only. It was, and is (if still needed) a “SALES” tool
that needs to be ordered by sales, service cannot order this catalog.
For this reason, and because there are real service functional differences between all the
SmartScore revisions – this section will deal with the legal legacy INSTALLED BASE revisions
of SmartScore at the time of this writing: Revision 3.3, and 3.5. Each sub-section will attempt to
cover installation and service information relevant to that particular revision. There will
unavoidably be some overlap.

9.2 SMARTSCORE 3.3

9.2.1 SMARTSCORE 3.3 SOFTWARE & PLATFORM AFFECTIVITY

o Advantage Workstation Solaris Platform Systems ONLY

o AW3.1_09 & forward
o AW4.0_05 & forward

9.2.2 SMARTSCORE 3.3 INSTALLATION

SmartScore 3.3 does not support the “PRE-LOAD” option in easy install (installation to the
hard disk without a license key), and can only be installed from cdrom. SmartScore 3.3
should be replaced with at least revision 3.5 whenever it exists – B79971JD.

9.2.3 SMARTSCORE 3.3 CONFIGURATION FILES

SmartScore 3.3 configuration files can only be saved within the SmartScore application -
in the ‘Preferences’ options - or by individually saving the unix/solaris files in the
SmartScore file system (not detailed in this document).
Example SmartScore 3.3 Configuration Service dependencies scenarios
• Re-load of SmartScore software only
o Save & Restore files within SmartScore preferences options.
• AW platform Re-load
o Save & Restore SmartScore files within SmartScore preferences options.
o Save & Restore AW configuration on AW platform

9.2.4 SMARTSCORE 3.3 COMMAND-LINE INSTALL & UNINSTALL

If the easy-install process will not work, for whatever reason (like remote service
intervention) - Manual command line install and uninstall scripts can be used.
Command-line install/uninstall scripts are located in /export/home/sdc/install
• install.sscore ########## (valid SmartScore license key)
• uninstall.sscore
ALERT
The SS3.3 uninstall.sscore script LOSES the SmartScore configuration and logo
files. Save them first in SmartScore preferences options. Repeat - If the command-line
uninstall.sscore script is to be used, Save configuration within SmartScore before running
the uninstall script – unless these files are not important.

9.2.5 SMARTSCORE 3.3 MAINTENANCE INFORMATION

DECLARATION OF IMAGE FAILURE ERROR OR FILESYSTEM FULL ISSUES

SmartScore saves scored studies information in the ~sdc/sscore/studies directory. The

files stored here are called ‘save state’ files, because they retain the scoring details of the
individual scoring session for that exam. In SmartScore 3.3, there is no automated
process in place to limit the number of save state files that can be saved in this directory.
Therefore, even though these files are small; if a large number of SmartScore studies are
done on a regular basis, and/or if other AW software processes are actively saving data,
the size of the studies directory might fill up the /export/home partition. This can result in
SmartScore failing with an error such as:
• Declaration of Image Failure error
OR
• The AW may not boot or it may crash
The preferred solution to this will be the implementation of DICOM STRUCTURED
REPORTING. This will allow Image Data Sets to be updated/generated in the image
database, where management and archiving are easily dealt with. However, neither
SmartScore 3.3 nor 3.5 have this implemented. Nevertheless, SmartScore 3.5 and beyond
will have a fix built in to systemically deal with save state file management. SmartScore
3.5 will implement a file system check during the EASY INSTALL process. During
SmartScore installation, if there is insufficient file space for either the application files or
the ‘studies’ files, a message will appear in the Easy Install GUI Window indicating the
amount of file space needed, and potentially what to do about it.

FILE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE SMARTSCORE 3.3

For SmartScore 3.3 only, service intervention will be required to discover and to remove
the excessive files from ~sdc/sscore/studies preferably before a problem occurs. This will
depend on how many SmartScore studies are done during a given period of time. A heavy
usage site will need this intervention more frequently than a low usage site.

When /export/home starts to reach a capacity of 100%, there will likely be a system
problem. The goal is to keep this partition at some level of capacity that is below 100%.
It is important to understand that other “non-SmartScore” files in this partition can also
lead to over-capacity.
But, for the purposes of this SmartScore Maintenance Procedure, it is recommended that
when the ~sdc/sscore/studies directory reaches 800 files (roughly a file system capacity of
50M) all the files, or a subset of all the files should be removed per the following removal
procedure.
Find the capacity of the ~sdc/sscore/studies directory:
1. Type cd ~sdc/sscore/studies .
2. Type du -k
The size of the directory is displayed. (example = 141)
NOTE: 800 files (50M) is an estimation that should be used in conjunction with the
directory’s normal df –k output characteristics. Remember, this is meant to be a proactive
service procedure – hopefully to avoid SmartScore 3.3 file system issues until replaced by
SmartScore 3.5 – which, of course is the standing recommendation.
Remove save state files from ~sdc/sscore/studies directory
Find out from the customer what SmartScore studies in the studies directory file listing are
now old, and not needed anymore. It is possible that none of them will be needed for
future use. However, this is a site usage specific variable, and should be verified with the
user before it is assumed. A possible usage scenario would be where a follow-up study is
planned on a patient, and therefore the save state information will be needed to compare
to the last study. Theoretically, this should not be needed if a report was generated, but
the customer could conceivably be using it this way.

Find the save state file listing ~sdc/sscore/studies

The naming convention is: patientID_examID_seriesNumber
1. To make the ~sdc/sscore/studies directory the working directory, type:
• cd/export/home/sdc/sscore/studies.
2. Type ls-al to list the files. The following type output is displayed:
• total 428
• drwxr-xr-x 2 sdc Informix 512 Apr 8 10:44 ./
• drwxr-xr-x 12 sdc Informix 512 Apr 8 10:35 ../

9.3.2 SMARTSCORE 3.5 INSTALLATION

SmartScore 3.5 Hard Disk PRELOAD:

SmartScore 3.5 (Solaris & Linux) support the easy install hard disk “preload” option
(installation to the hard disk without a license key). However, the functionality is not
standard. For instance, the load will only commence if when [INSTALL] is clicked, the
word preload is typed into the license key pop-up field, no license floppy is installed, and
[OK] is clicked. The standard is for the application to remain unselected (with ********** in
the license field) and click OK.

9.3.3 SMARTSCORE 3.5 LICENSE MEDIA (SMARTSCORE 3.5_F_11 – SOLARIS)

If there is a portable media (floppy) license key - it can be used during the Install Package
/ Easy Install software installation. But, again – not standard:

ALERT
The uninstall.sscore script LOSES the SmartScore configuration and logo
files. Save them first in SmartScore preferences options. Repeat - If the command-line
uninstall.sscore script is to be used, Save configuration before running the uninstall script
– unless these files are not important.

9.3.6 SMARTSCORE 3.5 COMMAND-LINE INSTALL & UNINSTALL (3.5_L_4015 –

LINUX)

• install.sscore KEY
o KEY = license number to enable software
If no KEY, it will try to access it from the license media.
• If no KEY or media KEY, it will fail as a bad license key.

• uninstall.sscore Un-install & retain installation files for future hard disk install.

• uninstall.sscore –all
(SmartScore 3.5_L_4015 & 4.0 & forward only)
• Un-install ALL SmartScore “functional” FILES (will need the
application cdrom to re-install).

9.3.7 SMARTSCORE INSTALLATION REBOOT MESSAGE

After successfully installing SmartScore 3.5, the EasyInstall window feedback will display
“Please REBOOT your workstation. “ This is because it is necessary to reboot the
workstation to avoid SmartScore GUI sizing issues where the lower left ‘progress bar’
could be hidden. If unsure about this, logout & login – OR - REBOOT the AW once after
the install to eliminate this risk.

9.3.8 SMARTSCORE 3.5 CONFIGURATION FILES

SmartScore 3.5 and beyond configuration files can be saved the same as SmartScore 3.3.
But, also with the standard AW SERVICES or ADMIN / Save Configuration Utility.
Example SmartScore 3.5 Configuration Service dependencies scenarios:
• Re-load of SmartScore software only:
o Save & Restore files within SmartScore and/or AW Save Configuration
• AW Platform Re-load:
o Save & Restore AW configuration on AW platform.

9.3.9 SMARTSCORE 3.5 “WINDOW FRAME” ISSUE

PROBLEM:

SmartScore 3.5 launches successfully, but is visually represented in a window frame

border – instead of fullscreen with no frame. Additionally, the SmartScore window might
be some random amount off-center to the system display. Note, the frame/window CAN
be re-positioned (centered) at will…

Window Frame

DISCUSSION:

SCENARIO 1: The SmartScore 3.5_L_4008 - 4012 installation script makes a modification

to an AW platform environment file ~sdc/.XSdC to turn off
"Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none" Decoration here refers to the window frame
border. See the last line in the screen-shot of the .XSdC file below this discussion. This
line normally does not exist until SmartScore 3.5_L_4008 or 4012 is installed. It does not
take effect until the browser is logged out and logged back in - or the AW is rebooted.

However, if one were to do something to the AW to re-set this .XSdC file by effectively
removing the line "Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none" (after SmartScore is
installed and working OK), the frame problem will appear. One of the things that could

Direction 2224901 SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual
cause this is to change the "look" variable in the install.site script. It is also possible some
other application(s) might effect the file in this way from time-to-time.

SCENARIO 2: Another potential scenario that could see this issue is with SmartScore
3.5_L_4014 or 4015 after a “new” installation of SmartScore (where SmartScore did not
previously exist). The 4014 and 4015 revisions of SmartScore 3.5 do not add this AW
platform environment variable in the ~sdc/.XSdC file - to turn off
"Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none"

RESOLUTION 1:

If this frame / border issue ever presents itself, you can fix it by simply re-installing
SmartScore 3.5_L_4008 or 4012 either from the easy install hard disk menu, the
cdrom, or the command-line install.sscore script. Logout and log back in. Frame
should be gone when you launch SmartScore again.

RESOLUTION 2:

If SmartScore 3.5_L_4014 or 4015 is installed –

Check the details of the .XSdC file per the above information, and the “nedit”
illustration of the .XSdC file screen-shot below.
If the Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none line is missing

• Open a command window and use any text editor – like “nedit”

• IF the current directory is any other directory besides /export/home/sdc –

o Type cd /export/home/sdc and press ENTER.
o Type in nedit .XSdC

• Scroll to the end of the file…

• The last line in the file should be - Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none

• If it is not there, position your cursor to be at the last line – new blank line – and
type in this line exactly like you see it here with a space between : & none:

o Mwm*AWTapp.clientDecoration: none

• When you are happy with your creation, click on the File menu, Save your work,
and reboot the workstation.

• When the AW is back up, SmartScore should launch with no frame border…

9.4 SMARTSCORE 4.0

9.4.1 GUIDE TABLE

There is a difference in the way SmartScore 3.5 and SmartScore 4.0 implements the
cardiac scoring guide table.
SmartScore 3.5 has a non-customizable guide table that requires manual entry of guide
percentile data. Once a valid guide data array is filled in and applied, the guide table
becomes part of the working template listed in the preferences screen. As such, the
template (with the embedded guide table) can be saved (to the AW hard disk) and
restored to and from floppy if desired.
SmartScore 4.0 has implemented a customizable guide table that can be saved and
restored from cdrom by itself. Additionally, SmartScore 4.0 will automatically retain the
most recent SmartScore 3.5 guide table data when it is installed over a working
SmartScore 3.5 installation.
If after a SmartScore 4.0 installation, a SmartScore 3.5 template is loaded, a pop up
comes up asking the user if he/she wants to import the AJ guide tables from the template.
If the user chooses to do so, the existing SmartScore 4.0 AJ guide table would be
overwritten.
This information is being mentioned here because guide table retention and restoration
could become a service issue between SmartScore 3.5 and 4.0 in some customer
situations - if the customer expects their (AJ) guide data to be retained after the upgrade.
The guide table data is acquired, and entered by the customer. There is no implied
requirement for SmartScore 4.0 to retain the data when it is installed. The feature to do
this was applied in a limited way as a customer convenience.

9.5 RESEARCH MODE

This section explains how to establish Research Mode Settings in SmartScore.

Read This First

This is not a “normal” installation or service procedure. IF, and ONLY IF the
customer/radiologist requests - the following is the procedure to configure specialized research
scoring methods. In order to successfully do this, the customer must provide the following
specific variables:

1.) The NAME of the method to appear on the report.

2.) The FILTER pixel connectivity setting.
3.) The SCORE CLASS
4.) The THRESHOLD

9.5.1 PROCEDURE
1.) Open a unix command window and perform the following commands:
cd sscore ENTER
cd bin ENTER
ls ENTER

LSK DOC0280805 3 1 11/30/07 36 of 39

Direction 2224901 SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual
2.) At the top portion of the list you should see “config_sscore”. Enter the following
command:

config_sscore ENTER

3.) A window with TABS will open towards the top of the screen. The First Tab is “Display”.
Below there will be THREE labeled fields:

- THRESHOLD
- DEFAULT LEVEL
- DEFAULT WINDOW

NOTICE The threshold value listed here must be the lowest value the site intends to
use. Example; If they intend on using the AJ 90 score as one of their available reports then
they must enter 90 in this field, and all subsequent values must be larger.

4.) The Second Tab is “Score 1" - DO NOT TOUCH.

5.) The Third Tab is “Score 2" - DO NOT TOUCH.

6.) TABS Score 3-8 are available to configure.

Example Configuration:
a.) Click on tab “Score 3"
b.) Name - enter in the score name desired on the report - 8 characters MAX.
c.) Filter - this is pixel connectivity. The number given here is the number of additional
pixels to be connected.
* A filter of 1= 2 pixel connectivity.
* A filter of 3=4 pixel connectivity.
* Typical value is 1 for GE scanners & 2 for Imatron.
* The maximum value you can enter in this field is 5.
d.) Score Class - choices are:
* SteppedScorer - all AJ reports fall into this class
* LinearScorer - invokes Linear scoring algorithm
* VolumeScorer - measures volume of the calcium in mm3
* MassScorer - calculates the mass of calcium in mg.
e.) Threshold - User defines - see NOTICE in step 3.
f.) Continue this process for Score 4 - 8, if desired.

7.) Click on SAVE

8.) Click on QUIT

9.) Type exit and return to patient browser

10.) RESTART BROWSER to save new changes.

9.5.2 CHECK SCORING CONFIGURATION

1.) Launch SmartScore and go into the PREFERENCES Screen.

Direction 2224901 SMARTSCORE Installation / Service Manual
2.) Select SCORE TABLE from the list of items in the white vertical window.

3.) In the ALGORITHM WINDOW, you should see all the scoring methods that are currently
configured - including the one(s) that you setup with the config_sscore process.

The scoring methods should have a 'CHECK BOX' that - when checked - designates the
scoring method to appear in the REPORT output.

- Make sure that the scoring method(s) that you configured with the config_sscore
process appear in the ALGORITHM WINDOW.

If it (or they) do not, it could be that perhaps the Browser was not restarted after the
config_sscore activity.

- Presumably, the user would like the newly configured scoring method(s) to appear in the
REPORT output. Make sure that there is a CHECK MARK in the box corresponding to
the new scoring method(s). DO NOT CHANGE THE CHECK BOX STATUS OF ANY OF
THE SCORING METHODS THAT YOU DID NOT CONFIGURE - unless the user
specifically asks you to.

For further verification, a scoring report can be generated to verify that the scoring
method(s) appear in the report output.

Congratulations, you have added the desired research modes.
