1899 MALOLOS
CONSTITUTION
The Malolos Constitution, the first Philippine Constitution the first
republican constitution in Asia,was drafted and adopted by the
first Philippine Republic. Which lasted from 1899 to 1901. During
the American Occupation, the Philippines was governed by the
laws of the united states of America, Organic acts were passed by
the united states congress for the administration of the
government of the Philippine islands. The first was thw

assembly composed of Filipino citizens.
Malolos Constitution, was the constitution of the first Philippine
Republic. It was written by Felipe Calderon y Roca and
Buencamino as an alternative to a pair of proposal to the Malolos
congress by Apolinario Mabini and Pedro Paterno.

Philippine Autonomy Constitution On August 29, 1916,
the Jones Law or the Act of Congress known as the
Philippine Autonomy Act of 1916, was approved. It was
the first formal and official declaration of the United
States commitment to grant independence to the
Philippines.
The law provides that the grant of independence
would come only "as soon as a stable government can
be established" which gave the United States
Government the power to determine when this "stable
government" has been achieved.

is that, for the first time, the US government officially
declared its commitment to grant independence to the

immediate organization and enactment of the Philippine

the Commission with an elective Senate and, with minimum
property qualifications, extended the franchise to all literate
Filipino males. The law also incorporated a bill of rights.

(National Assembly) passed a law setting the date of the
election on February 7, 1986. On February 4, 1986, Marcos
declared February 6 and 7 as nationwide non-working
special public holidays to "give all registered voters fullest
opportunity to exercise their right of suffrage."

Marcos died in honolulu on the morning of septemer
28, 1989, of kidney, heart and lung ailments,. Marcos
was interred in a private mausoeum at byodo-in
temple on the island of Oahu where his remains were
