EXAMINATION, 2021 (Sixth Semester) cheme) (Main Only) (CE) CE306C REINFORCED CONCRETE DESIGN-II Time : 2¥% Hours] [Maximum Marks : 75 Before answering the question-paper candidates should ensure that they have been supplied to correct and complete question-paper. No complaint, in this regard, will be entertained after the examination Note : Attempt Four questions in all. All questions carry equal marks. Use of scientific calculator is allowed. Use of Indian Standard is allowed 1. (a) A continuous beam over three spans each 6 m has a section 300 mm 450 mm, It is doubly reinforced with p, = 0.75% and p, = 1.65%. A slab of 125 mm continues over these beams. M25 grade concrete and FeS00grade of steel has been used. Check the section under limit state of serviceability as per clause 23.2 of IS : 456. (b) Design a continuous RCC beam of rectangular cross section to support a dead load 8 KN/m and working load 12 KN/m over three simply supported span of 8 m each. Use M20 grade concrete and Fe415 grade of steel 2. (a) What are open well staircases ? Under what situations would you recommend them ? List their advantages. (2)(J21)M-18F73 1 P.T.O. (b) Design a dog logged staircase considering the landing to be supported only on two edges perpendicular to the risers using following data Riser = 160 mm, Tread = 270 mm, projected length of tread rise unit = 2430 mm, length of landings at each and = 1250 mm, the landings are supported on 300 mm thick wall, live load 5 kN/m?, f,, = 20 MPa and f, = 550 MPa. 3. (a) Discuss the materials requirement as per Indian Standards for RCC water tank considering leakages, low permeability and durability (b) Design open square water 6 m x 6m = 3 deep which rests on firm ground. Design the tank using M30 grade of concrete and Fe415 grade of steel. 4. (a) Discuss the recommendations of Indian Standards for the design of staging of an OHSR (b) Design the cylindrical wall of an OHSR with M35 grade concrete and Fe 500 grade of steel. The diameter of water tank is 8 m, depth of water tank is 4.5 m and the bottom of water tank is at a height of 30 m By citing a few applications of beams curved in plan discuss the differences in behaviour when compared with straight beams in plan. (b) Design a semi-circular beam supported on three equally spaced columns using M20 grade of concrete and Fe415 grade of steel. The centres of the columns are on a circular curve of 8 m diameter. The beam carries a uniformly distributed live load 20 kN/m under service condition. 6. (a) A spherical dome is subjected to uniformly distributed load. Explain the stresses and plane of rupture in the dome with the help of figure (b) Design a reinforced concrete spherical dome for a circular room of 9m inside diameter with M20 grade concrete and Fe415 grade of steel. The rise may be taken as 3.5 m and the loads in service state condition are 2 kN/m?, The dome also supports a lantern weighing 24 KN with a circular opening of 2 m. The dome is supported over 340 mm thick brick wall. (2)(J21)M-18F73 2 7. (a) (b) 8. (a) (b) 9 (a) (b) (©) @ © If a retaining wall is subjected to surcharge as well the backfill is submerged to half the depth, explain the method of analysis for such retaining walls. Explain the deformations of various components of a centilever retaining wall, How are these deformations resisted in the design ? What data you need in order to check techno-economic feasability of a bridge ? Explain the following terms in terms of railway bridge with the help of figure, if required : (i) Coefficient of dynamic augment (ii) Longitudinal forces (iii) Racking forces. How are these considered in design ? A continuous beam over 3 spans 6 m each is subjected to uniformly distributed load. Show the bending moment diagram before and after considering moment redistribution How do you determine the effective span for design of open well staircase as per Indian Standards. What is surface zone and the reinforcement requirements in water tank as per Indian Standards ? Show different reinforcements in a circular beam continuous over ‘n’ supports. What is the function of a shear key in retaining wall ? How does it help against sliding ? (2)(J21)M-18F73 3 190
