Spirits Chapter I: Reverse Roles

Chapter I: Reverse Roles

A few passing citizens gasped and dodged the rolling barrel that was flung out of a two-story window from inside an expensive inn. The barrel made contact with a nearby pillar and stopped its short-lived journey. Over a dozen of curious eyes elevated to the broken window of the best inn in town in pure curiosity. What in Goddess Alikas name happened in there? The innkeeper hastily apologized to the outside public of his inn and retreated indoors where he belonged. A young couple approached the man and asked for shelter for the night for a good price. If it were any other day, the innkeeper would be more than happy to exchange a room for the gold they were offering him. Today, he had quite a special group of guests who booked the entire inn for themselves. Denying the young couple, the innkeeper bowed several times in apology before he glanced sideways at the wreck he called his inn. The walls were splattered with rye. The tables were filled with broken bowls and dishes. The floor was simply a mess. Worse of all, the innkeeper could not peep up a single complaint or else he would lose his head. When he suddenly heard a crashing noise by the stairs, the innkeeper shifted his attention there where two males were dueling with one another, each with a sword in hand. The crash turned out to be a table that tipped over from the top of the stairs and allowed gravity to break it into multiple pieces on the lower floor. The innkeeper along with a couple of other workers picked up the pieces. The cook ran out with a broom ready at hand to sweep up some of the mess. The two males who were clashing sword with one another seemed to disregard the broken furniture and continued on with their duel. The innkeeper grumbled and cursed under his breath before he retreated to the kitchen with the rest of his crew. My, my, you are slow, the first male taunted. Ye reflexes aint no better, the second male replied, slashing his sword sideways in which the first male jumped down a few steps to dodge. Fancy that last one didnt you? the first male asked, smirking under his long strands of dark red hair. The green eyes he possessed gleamed up against his tanned skin, daring the other to continue. The second male with dark pink hair and dark eyes tossed his head back and laughed loudly, toward the ceiling. A couple of other males around their early young adult years laughed along with the second male, sharing cups and flasks of rye among themselves. The stank of alcohol rose from every one of these men. The second male leapt on the rail of the staircase and cut loose the drapes. The first male quickly leapt off the stairs completely in order to avoid the falling drapes. As the heavy curtains descended upon the stairs, a raven-haired male jumped and slashed the curtains into many pieces before he landed on the lower ground.

I thought I heard something crash, The new male said over his shoulder. The other two males who were fighting before tossed their weapons aside and stood up straight, paling dramatically. The leader of the group had left his room and with an emotionless look on his face. Clearly, the leader was not happy with the problems the men had caused so far. As much as they respected him, they knew very well that they had to stay away from his bad side. The leader did not like killing by nature, but he would not hesitate to do so even as punishment. Kei did it! The first male pointed at the dark-pink haired male next to him. Shermann provoked me first, Kei protested. The leader in front of them did not turn back to look at them. He simply started walking toward the door and said over his shoulder, You two destroy property, you two will pay for it. But were pirates! We dont pay for damages! Sherman retorted. What kind of pirates make such a commotion that they will draw every authority from the Mizunamian government here? The leader asked, clearly irked. The two men grew silent. Clearly, the leader spoke the truth. They were supposed to keep their presences quiet. The last time the authorities came looking for them, they had to leave town in a haste on empty stomachs. Im getting out of here, The leader continued clearly. He tied his black hair into a loose ponytail. Every man for himself right? If you two get caught, I dont want to get involved. Ill see you on the ship tomorrow. The leader waved a quick hand back and slammed the door close without another word. Lucas! The gang inside cried after him in unison. Outside, Lucas took in a deep breath before he placed his hands in the interior of his pockets. Walking down the street, Lucas did not give a glance back at the inn. The boys would have to look out for themselves for tonight, Lucas decided. Leaving the town behind, Lucas continued on and on, into the meadows. The plains and meadows were the heart and soul of the country of Mizunam. Mizunam, by far, was the richest and strongest country in the world. And therefore, Mizunam was the best place to raid for pirates like the boys and himself. Sitting on top of a hill, Lucas took out the harmonica he always carry with him and started playing into it with his eyes closed. The music seemed to flow with the wind that blew across the land. At last, Lucas opened his eyes and kept them at the towering castle. The highest points of the castle or the towers seemed so high that it reached the belly of the clouds above it. In this land of Mizunam, if one needed to find north, all they needed to do was look for the castle. The castle was build in the northern part of Mizunam, close to the western end of the En Ocean. Lucas estimated his

current location in this vast country by his distance and direction from the castle. Lucas smiled. The capital of Mizunam was but a few miles away. Stretching, Lucas yawned loudly and threw his body back, against the soft grass that seemed to cushion him on top of this hill. The minute he closed his eyes once more, his ears picked up on a distinct buzzing noise. Bolting up to a sitting position, Lucas slashed the fly in half with his sword and laid back down. However, the comfort he felt before instantly disappeared. Growling, Lucas climbed back up his feet. He needed a higher place to relax. Lucas scanned the horizon and spotted a dense forest not so far away. Perfect. Lucas picked up his sword and walked toward his destination. Sleeping soundly on a high branch above the forest floor, Lucas breathed heavily against the warm arm of this summer day. The sun beamed heavily down this patch of forest. As the sunlight seeped through Lucass eyelids, Lucas started to hear distinct noises nearby that further woke him up from his nap. Waking up for what seemed like the third time today, Lucas climbed a branch higher and searched for the source of the noise. He spotted a group of young girls playing tag by a shady area not so far from his tree. Lucas blinked twice to make sure he was not seeing things. However, after his second blink, the girls still giggled and played as if there were all the time in the world. Lucas had developed his distaste for women a long time ago, but it did not stop him from spying on them. Women, as spiteful as they were, were quite beauties to watch, as long as he did not have to think about their personalities. The best way to love and hate women at the same time is to stare at their body without listening to them talk, Lucas said, liking his philosophy already. Lucas watched as the lead woman wandered around the area, blindfolded, with her arms out to find her nearby friends. Lucas decided that from this distance he could not fully watch them with enough pleasure so he climbed down the branches of the tree and sat down behind some bushes. From this distance, Lucas nodded to admit that the view was much better here. Every one of these dark-haired girls were dressed in summer dresses of all colors with modest make-up on their faces and bells around their ankles. Tiny slippers were left by the bushes where Lucas hid. The lead girl with her eyes blindfolded was dressed in a flowing white and red dress with ribbons tied around her waist. Lucas observed her from top to bottom with some form of distaste on his face. This girl had such a thin face, and a slim, tall body that Lucas cringed in horror. Lucas hoped she could make up for her thinness with at least an ample chest, but that she did not have either. Lucas sighed, and slouched. Girls who were too thin had low fertility rate, something men could not stand. The other girls were in no better shape. Nevertheless, it was still fun to see girls playing tag. There was some thrill in seeing girls touching one another. The blindfolded girl reached out for a girl but missed and tumbled over the slippers on the ground and fell into Lucas, who did not notice until it was

too late. The girl threw away the cloth around her eyes and beamed at her capture, only to meet the dark, sparkling eyes of Lucas. Lucas had very distinct eyes- almond-shaped with a soft glint of brown amidst coal black. The girl blushed distinctively at those charming, dashing eyes. It did not matter that Lucas wore some black-soot clothes and had a dirty face at the moment because he had beautiful eyes. Im sorry! The girl apologized quickly, bowing several times. Watch where you touch me, Lucas said in an annoyed tone. The girl darted her eyes across his body where she snuggly clasped her arms around his waist. Removing herself from between his legs, the young girl stood up straight with a red face. Lucas heaved his body off the ground and wiped some dirt from his face. The other girls ran up to their friend and wrapped their arms around her protectively, staring cautiously at Lucas. Lucas rolled his eyes. They were acting like he was going to jump their friend or something. Lucas laughed at the thought. They actually thought their friend was pretty enough for him? How absurd. You were watching us, arent you? One of the other girls asked accusingly. And if I were? Lucas asked carelessly. Well call the authorities on you, Another girl said nastily. Is there a law against spying on girls who decide to play tag in the middle of nowhere? Lucas asked, leaning forward tauntingly. I can easily take you all down. Strength in numbers do not scare me. The girls realized their mistake to talk to a total stranger, especially a seventeen-year-old male who looked like a pirate, and slowly backed away, against a nearby tree. Lucas approached them. Scared? I guess you girls are still too young to even think of raping me. The girls glanced worriedly toward each other. What do you mean? Lucas shrugged. He did not feel like explaining himself at the moment. These girls are still so young and innocent at this age of fourteen. Did they not know that probably their mother had to rape their father to marry him? Did they not know that statistics say three men are raped in a single day? Lucas kept these thoughts to himself as he went up to the lead girl and cupped her chin in his hand. I am not like other men, Lucas said through gritted teeth. I will not allow women to control me like a slave, to rape me when they wish to. Lucas smirked dangerously, causing the poor girl to shake. I rape girls instead. The rest of the girls ran off, leaving their friend behind with Lucas. They were in the presence of a pirate and they were smart enough to run away with their virginity. The last girl stared in horror up at Lucas, occasionally glancing down at his sword. Would he rape her first and kill her later or kill her first and rape her later? Either way, she realized the mistake she made in playing in the woods without her parents permission. She swore that if she made it out alive, she would never disobey her parents again. Lucas affectionately felt the nape of her neck before he released her.

Giving her one last look, Lucas picked up his sword and walked the opposite direction. The girl left, crying and trembling. Lucas could not imagine himself raping such an unattractive girl in broad daylight. If it were night time, maybe but not in the afternoon like this. Lucas sighed and came to a clear pond where he threw a pebble across the clear surface. He watched as the object sunk under the merciless liquid. His body ached at the lack of physical contact with a woman. Now, he regretted his earlier choice. At this age, his body no longer obeyed him. Running across the forest, a man in his early twenties escaped through a group of trees with a splendid pink-haired woman on his trail. Lucas barely caught sight of this before he stood up and watched after the woman. This place was full of life, Lucas decided. Following the trail the two lead, Lucas thought about the world around him. Women dominated the government, the restaurants, the authorities, the army, and everywhere else. And what did men do? They work as labors and every other low-paying jobs available. There were some who moved beyond that and worked in higher-paying jobs but still only received half the wages women made. Stopping midway through, Lucas met face to face with the pink-haired woman who had cold, distant eyes and dark ruby lips. Lucas gripped his sword tightly in his hand. Her eyes glanced at his sword and caught the cautious movement. This caused a smirk to play on her lips. Lucas lifted a brow and steadied himself in a battle stance. You dare strike a woman? The woman asked. I strike anybody, Lucas answered, emotionlessly. Why is it you follow me so? The woman asked, raising her voice slightly. Because I thought you were pretty, Lucas said. You chase pretty girls? The woman asked, not a bit afraid. If you must know, its a hobby of mine, Lucas said casually. Especially one of your status. My status? What do you know about my status? The woman continued to ask. Youre no ordinary citizen so Im curious, thats all, Lucas answered. I have no time to play with boys of your status then, The woman said, using his words against him and turning away from him. Where do you think youre going? Lucas asked, moving toward her with his sword ready. I want to fight you. Fight me? The woman turned back to him with a raised brow. I thought you wanted to rape me. That was my first intention, but the minute I saw that rapier in your hand, I wanted to fight instead, Lucas said. A devious smile traced her lips at the sound of this. In a blur, Lucass eyes widened when he found her right behind him, whispering in his ear. How about we make a deal? A deal Lucas rubbed his hand over his chin. I dont make deals. What is your name? The woman asked, changing the subject.

Lucas, Lucas said without fear. And you are? Julie, The woman responded, also without a hint of fear. Well, Julie, I dont make deals with anybody, especially not a woman, Lucas said tensely. He was losing his patience. I will fight you if you make a deal with me first, Julie said clearly. Youre a diplomat all right, Lucas noticed. A noble perhaps? Maybe, Julie said. You hesitate in fighting me, Lucas observed. Are you afraid that I am stronger than you? Are you afraid I will strike you down? Quite the opposite actually, darling, Julie stated. You are not strong enough to fight me. I have a Guardian Spirit and darling, you dont. Lucas grimaced. I dont take insults lightly. Find yourself a Guardian Spirit and well talk, Julie said, putting her rapier away. How about I prove that I am better than you even without a Guardian Spirit? Lucas dared, readying his sword. I am too busy looking for my sister to spend any more time with you, darling, Julie said with a playful wink. Is your sister as strong as you? Lucas demanded. Almost, Julie confessed. How about I fight your sister and prove myself? Would you fight me then? Lucas asked, itching for a fight. Darling, well talk after you beat my sister, Julie said slyly. If you can kill my sister, you are ready to fight me. I highly doubt that though. Kill your sister? Lucas repeated disbelievingly. What a witch you are. Thank you, darling, Julie said joyfully. Lucas did not know why he wanted to fight Julie in the first place. When she ran by, he felt this incredible energy emitting from her. If he could fight and win a duel with Julie, he had proven himself worthy in her eyes. Lucas planned to take her down the minute he beat her. Julie, unlike the girls he met earlier, was a hot-pinked hair attractive woman with dark eyes, black makeup, and ruby lips. Julie was a powerful woman and perhaps a noble. A pirate like himself lust for a challenge like this and he was not about to let this one go without a fight. Then, if I kill your sister and get myself a Guardian Spirit, youll fight me? Lucas asked, urging the dark-eyed woman. Then, will that be a deal? Julie asked with renewed interest in her eyes. A deal it is, Lucas gave up at last. Julie walked around and faced Lucas directly instead of behind him. Julie offered Lucas her gloved right hand and left her ungloved left hand to her side. Lucas stared at the hand and knew that she wanted him to confirm the deal. Lucas took her hand roughly in his and gave her one firm shake. Julie Xieng. Julie introduced. Lucas Yeung. Lucas also introduced himself.

Yeung Ill remember that. Julie said confidently. Julie quickly cut a piece of her skirt with the swiftness of her rapier and handed it to him. This fabric is one of a kind. With this alone, you should be able to find me. Lucas did the same motion, except with his sword toward his handkerchief. Giving Julie one-half of his handkerchief, Lucas said, And with this, you should be able to locate me as well. Youre an interesting man, Yeung, Julie said. I cannot wait until our next meeting. I look forward to it. And I as well, Lucas said. Julie winked. I need to find my sister now, darling. Good day to you. Julie, with a swing of her hips, ran away from him and deeper into the forest. Lucas watched her. He was sure the person she was chasing before was a man, not a woman. How could it be her sister? Surely, she jested. Lucas pocketed his half of the handkerchief and her ripped cloth and lifted his eyes at the darkening horizon. Night already? Lucas jumped on top of a branch and stared toward the castle far away. The Mizunamian Palace Lucas muttered under his breath. What better place to strike? What better place to find a Guardian Spirit for myself? With that thought, Lucas turned his attention back to the town he left earlier. If he planned to do this, he wanted to strike during the nighttime. I better take the boys and raid the place. Lucas decided out loud. Leaping down onto the ground, Lucas walked with his sword trailing along the ground. Julie Xieng part of the royal family eh? Maybe I could kill that sister too. Lucas thought about the enchanting beauty. What a dangerous woman I have to watch out for her. Earlier that day, he was a simple pirate who raid towns, stole gold, raped women, and spent the rest of his time playing his harmonica and conquering exciting feats. Today, he was taking a gamble in striking the Mizunamian Palace. Funny thing was he hated women in general, yet they managed to control him anyway. He did all this to win Julie, a woman who in his eyes stood as a firm representative of all women out there. If he could win the Queen of all women, he could reverse the gender role. It was not easy but every day that he had to see men enslaved to women, he wanted to kill those helpless men himself. Lucas drunk some rye he carried with him in large gulps. There was nothing he would not do. To his men, he was a daredevil. He had never back down from a challenge. Nothing was impossible. Finding a Guardian Spirit and killing Julies sister in a palace was nothing. Lucas was not a modest man. He knew he could do the impossible and when he did, he could boast about it and spread his name within the land of Mizunam, the most femaledominated place in the world. Lucas knew he dared to do the impossible because he had no parents to worry about him, no siblings to stop him, and no reason to live. His purpose in life was to make the most of it, and spent it in the most enjoyable fashion possible. Lucas had been an orphan his entire life. He did not want to burden with responsibility, with morals, with the law, or any of

that junk. Lucas found delights in bending the law to his own needs and shaping his morals to suit himself. There were some things men would not stoop to like fighting a woman, but Lucas disregarded that as a weakness. In his eyes, these immoral actions or chivalric ideals were merely excuses. If he had to beg for his life, he would do it. If he had to surrender to live, he would do it. If he had to fight a woman in exchange for living, he would do it. Who needs honor when one is dead? Lucass goal in life is to live as long as possible. It was that simple. Spotting a man riding on a carriage, Lucas leapt on the door and swung it open. The man almost screamed for help but Lucas quickly threw him out the door, headfirst. Lucas closed the door and sat on the cushy seats. Crossing his legs on the seats across from him, Lucas lazily sat back and observed the world outside the window. He thought of the man he pushed inelegantly out of his own carriage. If someone accused him of killing that man, why deny it? Lucas hated wasting his breath, even more than saving his life if that was possible. One of these days, he could imagine himself surrounded by more than a hundred soldiers from the Mizunamian government and asked if he had killed the Queen. Under those circumstances, he would not have the guts to kill the Queen in the first place but would he have to guts to say he did? Of course. Why waste his breath in denying some accusation more than a hundred soldiers made against him? If he said no, would they release him? No. Then why try? Plus, fighting over a hundred soldiers was a challenge he would delight in. Best of all, if he survived, he could boast. Boasting kept him alive for all these years because boasting was his motivation for living. Lucas knew how contradictory he was. He wanted to live, yet he loved daring challenges that would give him an early death. He could deny accusations thrown against him to live longer, but he would rather take the challenge instead. Funny thing was he would rather lie to get a challenge than tell the truth and live. It was a matter of wasting his breath. He loved challenges, yet he hated oral challenges or debates. So far, no woman had ever understood his logic. Only his men did. The carriage rolled faster toward the town, much to Lucass delight. He could not wait to announce his next scheme to his men. Lucas returned his attention to the towering castle outside the window and smiled pleasantly. Maybe he could use this chance to take a sneak peek at the Queen herself too. Now, that was another challenge he could easily boast about if he lived to see another day. **************************** Waving a right hand in front of the males face, a young lady with long straight hot-pink hair pouted and poked the male in front of her. Dressed in a light white dress under a dark cloak, the lady leaned up on her tiptoes despite the fact that she was wearing uncomfortable white heels and blew some wind into the males neck. The male rolled his grey eyes and turned his tall frame away from her. Clad in a white uniform, the blue-haired male

adjusted the collar of his shirt higher so that if she tried to blow wind into his neck again, she would not be able to. Are you making fun of my height? The young lady asked, sticking out her lower lip. She usually did this whenever she was annoyed at something. Settle down, Princess, The man said, pushing her shoulders down to her original height without tiptoeing. The woman wrapped her arms stubbornly across her chest and refused to look at him. What is wrong, Princess? Nothing, except your face, She said, tapping her foot. What is wrong with my face, Princess? The man asked calmly. I am not answering your question, Sir Lancaster, the young princess answered. The man know the princess well. Ada, He said through gritted teeth. She raised her glowing green eyes up at him. He finally addressed her by her first name. What is wrong with my face? Thats better, Ada said, smiling. And what is wrong with your face, Sir Lancaster? Everything. Everything? Lancaster asked, jerking a brow. Then why do I catch you glimpsing at it from time to time? I am simply afraid you lose yourself in the streets, Ada said smoothly. Surely, you jest Miss Ada! Lancaster shook his head. I am away from the castle ten times more than you have. You should worry about yourself, Miss Ada. I am fully capable of taking care of myself, thank Sir Lancaster, Ada said curtly. It is my duty that you return home safely, thats all, Lancaster retorted. And is it also your duty to not grant me leave of your sight as well? Ada asked incredulously. Lancaster did not respond. I thought so. Ada said in triumph. And is it also your duty to appear as stoic and silent as possible? Your face frustrates me. I am sorry to hear that, Miss Ada, Lancaster said apologetically. What must I do to gain your favor? Ada thought about it for a few minutes. Right now, Ada and Lancaster were standing by a wooden table in the library. Usually, Ada would be in the Mizunamian Palace, reading poetry or some other type of historical fiction at this time. However, today, Ada refused to submit to such boredom. Instead, the young princess decided to jump the gates of her palace and travel to her favorite place in the world- the towns library. Whenever Ada felt distressed about something, she would escape to the world in her favorite books from this library. Other times, she would sit there carefully in her favorite seat in the library, in the back by the corner of the fiction section, and stare at the original copies of books about the Goddesses. If there was one thing that

interested Ada, it were the stories about the nine Goddesses from these books. The nine Goddesses were under the name of Mizunam, Palan, Limeon, Kashia, Ferlidio, Flamana, Corodie, Morea, and Berdatica. According to the books, the Goddesses found a large continent under the name of Philtopia. Then, as they settled down in this rich land, they each found an area they liked best and named it after themselves. Mizunam, the eldest and most beautiful of the nine, set up a Queendom in the land she named after herself. Palan, the second in line and least feminine of the nine, set up a Kingdom in the land she named after herself. Limeon, the third Goddess and most intelligent of the nine, set up the Limeon Squad Leaders in the land she named after herself. Kashia, the fourth Goddess and most hardworking of the nine, set up city-states in the land she named after herself. From Ferlidio and on, the pages were lost. Little was known about the other Goddesses and the supposed land that were named after them. As far as Mizunamians knew, there were only four countries in the world. Mizunam was the largest and most powerful country where they lived. Palan was across the En Sea. Limeon and Kashia were next to Palan on the same continent. Ada heard many stories about the other Goddesses from her ancestors to many of her tutors and teachers. For one thing, Berdatica, the youngest of all nine, was identified as cold and isolated. Ada could imagine the land of Berdatica, wherever it may be, to be a land made of ice where no one could live in. The land of Berdatica might only be imaginative in Adas mind, but it was fun to think about nevertheless. The world was so wide and vast. Ada wanted to explore the other lands out there. First of all, however, Ada decided to explore the country of Mizunam first, her homeland. When Ada came here, she found Sir Lancaster waiting for her. Lancaster knew her daily routine of escaping the castle and sought her out in the library, as expected. Much to her surprise, he did not take her back home and allowed her a few hours to stay outdoors, away from the barren land of her home. Lancaster rarely showed any emotions, something common among the soldiers, but Ada decided to loosen him up a bit by bringing enthusiasm into his life. At last, Ada answered, Smile a little, Sir Lancaster. Smile you say? Lancaster asked. Ada pouted. You never smile. What is wrong with you? I never learned how to smile, Lancaster admitted. You are jesting with me, Ada said, curling her lips into a soft smile. People do not have to smile to indicate happiness do they? Lancaster asked. Why do you say that, Sir Lancaster? Ada asked thoughtfully. There are other ways to show appreciation. To show joy. I do not see a need for a soldier like myself to smile. Lancaster answered. Tell me, Miss Ada. How can you tell that I appreciate your companionship?

Well Ada closed her eyes and thought about it. You have this twinkle in your eyes. Ada opened her eyes and used the tips of her forefingers to lift the side of her eyes to indicate what she meant next. And your eyes lift like a smile. Isnt that enough? Lancaster asked. I never thought about it until now, Ada admitted. But your smiling eyes make me happier than you showing me happiness with your lips. Thank you for your compliments, Princess, Lancaster said with a slight bow. No! Bad! Ada shook her head stubbornly and covered her ears with her hands. I do not like the sound of you addressing me like that. Im not speaking to you. Its a hard habit to change, Ada, Lancaster explained. Ada lifted both hands from her ears and stared at Lancaster in awe. I want to see the documents, Ada decided. On the Goddesses? Lancaster asked, knowing the answer already. Yes, Ada nodded. You have Mizunams blood in you, Lancaster said. Ada removed some loose strands of pink hair from her eyes and glanced over at Lancaster curiously with wide eyes. I just want to know about my land, Sir Lancaster. I know you do. There is nothing wrong with that. Lancaster said quickly. Every week, I come here to read books that I am not allowed to read back in the castle, Ada said, picking up one of the books from the table. The scent of freshly printed pages Ada flipped the pages and inhaled the scent. I love the printing press. I adore reading fictional works by such wonderful writers! How they contrast with the boring non-fiction I typically read in the castle. You must not say such nonsense, Lancaster said quickly. Out here away from the castle I am truly a free woman. Ada said, twirling around with her arms out. I do not need to read those rusty, old books. I do not need to arrange my hair in any elegant manner. Ada unclipped some pins from her hair and allowed it to flow freely. I want to be free like the Spirits. Miss Ada Lancaster sighed. Ada leaned against the bookcase and hugged the book to her chest. I read documents of original works. I see pictures of the Goddesses themselves smiling at me. This is the life. This is where I belong. Ada stood up straight and moved toward the open window, thrusting her head out and staring at the castle so close. I do not belong in there with Mimi and Julie. I belong with the people. There is something different about you, Miss Ada, Lancaster said, leaning out the window next to Ada. Your late father or the late King Consort used to praise you all the time. He even boasted as I recalled that

you would be the one to succeed your mother. Lancaster tossed Ada an amused look. Ada sighed heavily and dropped her head toward the ground where she spotted a group of ants moving in a line with leaves on top of their heads. Ada made an imaginary line above the ants with her finger. Her eyes followed the trail of the ants toward the mound in the corner of the library. Lancaster followed her gaze with his grey eyes. Ada pointed at the mound. I am no Queen, Sir Lancaster, Ada said in a tired tone. You see those ants hard at work? Lancaster nodded. I want to be one of them. I want to be traveling around and making my own food. Lancaster shook his head at the idea. I do not want to be the Queen and stay in that dark hole all day, waiting for everyone else to do the work for me. I do not want to be the Queen and get married and have future heirs to the throne. Ada placed both her hands around her face. I want to be a worker ant. You must not say such rubbish, Lancaster said again. Lancaster, you swear that you will not recite any of these thoughts to Mother or my sisters? Ada turned on the soldier next to her quickly, in anxiety. I swear I will not speak a word of this if I am not asked about it, Lancaster said. Mimi will make an excellent Queen one day, Ada decided. Mimi is enthusiastic and actually attends to her studies more than I. I am a slacker who rather play with a scimitar than read and write. There is more to a Queen than that, Miss Ada, Lancaster said. The late King Consort has high hopes for you. Father never said what he had high hopes for me for, Ada said quickly. Maybe I could be a writer or a painter or a merchant somewhere. Ada beamed at these prospective ideas. Maybe a dancer! A singer! An actress! Princess, Lancaster said gently. We should return to the Palace now. We should return while you still have that head above your shoulders. I will borrow a couple of these books, Ada decided, picking up the books she chose on the table. Ada headed over to the librarian and asked to check out the books before she left the library. Lancaster hurriedly pulled the hood of her cloak up to her head before any of the citizens saw one of the three princesses wandering around town. Ada felt this unauthorized touch and glared up at Lancaster. Like I said before, Sir Lancaster, I am fully capable of taking care of myself. The minute she said that, a fast-pace carriage rode by and knocked her backwards, right into Lancasters reaching arms. Ada huffed in indignation at such a speed in tight streets where thousands of citizens were walking by. At the thought of someone getting hurt because of this, Ada kicked off her white heels and chased after the carriage, barefooted. Lancaster slammed his forehead against the back of his hand before he followed the angry princess. All the meanwhile, Lancaster thought to

himself, Did Princess Ada not notice that her whole body was covered in mud and dirt? Racing after the carriage, it did not take Ada a long time to realize she would never catch up on foot. Spotting a white horse nearby, Ada threw the previous rider a bag of gold coins before she leapt and rode the horse into motion, after the carriage. Lancaster panted after he caught up, only to see Ada riding away on a horse. Lancaster took a different passage. At this rate, he would never catch her. The only thing to do was to head back to the castle and come looking for her with reinforcement. It was his fault in the first place. He should have taken her back to the palace a long time ago. Chasing the carriage side by side, Ada used her leg to kick the door. After several attempts, she closed in on the carriage and knocked on the door with her hands. The hood of her cloak blew backward at the intense wind. The door finally swung open after her calls to reveal a group of roughlooking boys around their early adult years. Ada did not lose her determination however. Stop this carriage right now! Ada ordered. What do ya want, girlie? Kei asked, sticking his head out in front of the others. This is over the speed limit! Ada explained angrily. And you want to stop us? A one-woman army? Sherman asked, also sticking his head out next to Kei with an amused laugh. Citizens of Mizunam should be following the rules! Ada said accusingly. Who are you? The authorities? Sherman laughed. You insensitive boys! You might hurt somebody! Ada said, as she slowed the horse down a little. I will call the authorities this instant. A young boy around fourteen years of age with a boyish face and messy dirty blonde hair shook Sherman and Kei roughly about the shoulders. Remember what Lucas said? Sherman and Kei exchanged looks. No authorities involved! Stop this carriage! Ada repeated, tensing up dramatically. At this rate, we will ruin Lucass plans anyway, Cal, Sherman said to the dirty blonde-haired boy. Cal made a displease face. I know, Kei said suddenly. Let us get rid of the problem. What do you mean, Kei? Cal asked, lifting a brow. Sherman caught on and unsheathed his sword before he cried out, Cal, you take the reins and the rest of the boys to the castle. Kei and I will catch up later. Ya in charge now, boy, Kei ruffled Cals hair. Luck to ya. Aye, Sherman, Cal nodded. Kei looked dangerously at Ada with a mischievous glint in his eyes. Shall we dance, girl? Hither and thither ya? Kei unsheathed his own sword before he and Sherman jumped off the carriage and struck Adas horse. Ada was fast herself and leapt against a nearby wall and landed on top of a stand. From there, she landed on the

rooftop of a building and waved her hand at the boys in challenge. Sherman nudged Kei to follow her. Kei nodded as both the boys bounced against the same wall and followed her up on the rooftop. Sherman placed a hand on his hip and smirked. Ye afraid to challenge us, girlie? Kei asked. No, I do not want to involve helpless citizens, Ada answered, dashing across the rooftop to the other side. Catch me first then! With that challenge, she leapt off the roof and disappeared. What a daring girl, Sherman commented, following her. Like Lucas, Kei said as an afterthought. Ada ran barefooted, feeling the dirt beneath her feet. This sensation was one she never felt before. For once in her life, she felt alive. Ada used her sword to cut around her dress because her hem were too long for running. With the cloth on the ground, Ada freely moved her limbs as fast as she could through the alleys of the city. Soon enough, she found herself in a corner. Ada almost cursed at herself for not knowing her own city well enough. This would never had happened if she had gone out more, instead of being trapped indoors all the time. As expected, she saw two long shadows on the wall and turned around with an innocent smile on her lips. Hello, boys, Ada said casually, backing toward the wall. Nowhere left to run, eh Missy? Kei asked, widening his smile. I am just an innocent girl, Ada started when Sherman laughed. You have some guts to mess with us, pirates, girlie, Sherman said. Pirates? Ada repeated. Suddenly, her courage came back in an instant. The economy has been slipping lately. The raids have increased three times. Innocent citizens reported theft every day. Ada fumed in anger. There is a bounty on every one of your heads! I must deliver justice to my citizens! Ada gripped the scimitar tightly. Your citizens? Sherman repeated. Kei licked his lips. Girlie talks tough. She barks, but can she bite? Sherman and Kei nodded and attacked Ada at once with a double sword combination. Ada ducked and reflected both attacks with her scimitar. From what she learned from her tutor, the scimitar is an excellent weapon to repel weapons such as swords and blades. She must used what she learned in a real fight. Sidestepping, Ada swung her scimitar left and right, down and up, and in every other combination she could think of. Sherman and Kei were quick, but she was quicker. In a few spars, she learned quickly that by themselves, neither was good enough to face her. However, with two of them attacking in unison, they have an unfair advantage. Still, Ada did not back down. Pirates had been raiding the towns by the coast, and she was sure these two had some responsibility regarding that. Ada would not permit them to go on unpunished, even if she was fighting two against one. Ye good for a lone wolf, Kei complimented. Ada simply glared at him as she stabbed her scimitar into his shoulder. Kei bit his lip at the pain but did not groan out loud. Instead, he pushed his elbow into her stomach and knocked her backwards. Ada

removed the scimitar from his shoulder and panted. Sherman took this chance and kicked some dirt into Adas face. You dirty scums! Ada cried, using her cloak to wipe the dust from her eyes. Ye learn a hard lesson, girlie, Kei said. Pirates dont play fair, Sherman added. Ada felt her body lifted from the ground as she gasped to feel her body over a hard shoulder. One of the two pirates apparently threw her over his shoulder and was now walking away with her. Ada shrieked at this act, in which the other male quickly tied a cloth around her mouth to keep her from making any noise. Ada tried kicking now, but the male used his hard grip to hold her legs still. Ada did not where they were taking her. What she did know was that she was captured by a group of dirty, cheating pirates. ****************************** Dropping an arm over his companions shoulder, Lucas peered up at the tiny frame male next to him and winked. Inside the castle now, Lucas yawned at how easy it was to make it inside. He thought it would be much harder. A couple of soldiers here and there. A couple of guards here and there. A couple of servants here and there. No big deal. Probably with his skills, he could come in here unnoticed but now, with the arrival of Cal and the others, it became obvious the castle was not guarded very well. Russ, everything according to plan? Lucas asked that male he still had his arm over. Russ, dressed in an oversized pants and shirt, usually had his collar high above his neck to cover close to half of his face. Under the oversize, brown, and dirty hat on his head, two round brown eyes looked up curiously at his leader. Russ? Aye, Russ said. Still as unresponsive as ever, eh Russ? Lucas asked. Aye, Russ answered. And when will you dress in clothes your own size instead of mine? Lucas asked, glancing around the corner of the building they hid behind of. Negative, Russ said, glancing away. Leave Russ alone, Captain, Cal said, moving stealthily against a wall and reaching to the rest of the boys with his hand braced against the wall. At Lucass urging look, Cal quickly picked up his messy blonde head and cracked a smile. Cal panted as he spoke. I eavesdrop on a couple of servants, and guess what I heard? Lucas eyed Cal in a bored way. Well, tell me then. I dont like to guess. Right Cal said shakily, remembering how much Lucas hate to waste his breath. He could talk like this to Sherman, Kei, or any of the others, but not the leader of the group. I heard that most of the soldiers are searching for a missing princess. Russs eyes widened. Princess? What are you afraid of Russ? Lucas asked, tossing the darkly-garbed a curious glance. I say take advantage of our good fortune.

Aye to that! Cal said, jumping up and down, excited. Lucas smacked Cal upside the head to calm him down. Be quiet, or else, well all get caught and hung, damn hyper Cal, The other males around Lucas nodded in agreement. Cal sighed and leaned against the wall. Lucas checked from outside the wall again. Hey Cal, Lucas signaled the boy to come closer to him. Cal did that and stuck his head out from behind the wall too. Did you take the time to eavesdrop on where the pendants are? Oh yeah Cal scratched the back of his head. I forgot about that. Russ snorted under his breath. Lucas smirked. Busy thinking about pretty princesses, eh Cal? Cal grinned nervously, admitting to the charge laid against him. Russ snorted again, which Lucas caught once more. You shouldnt be laughing at Cal, Russ. You were probably thinking of pretty princesses too. Lucas teased. Russ blushed tremendously under his dirty face. Nay, sir. Your voice say one thing, but your cheeks say something else, Lucas said. No man can blush like Russ can, Cal said, defending his friend. He blushes at almost everything. He blushes like a girl, Captain. Please stop teasing him sir. A girl? Russ blushed further. Well never know because Russ never washes his damn dirty face, Lucas said accusingly to Cal as if Russ wasnt standing there. Russ walked around Lucas and Cal and glanced over his shoulder. Ill find the location of the pendants. Without waiting for an answer, Russ tucked the collar higher up his neck and swiftly sprinted across the side of the building and then disappeared. Look at Russ go Lucas said, without any sign of surprise. I guess he was annoyed at our teasing, Cal. Russ can be so sneaky sometimes, Cal admitted. Where is Sherman and Kei anyway? Lucas asked, suddenly remembering the two missing males. Oh, they stayed behind and went after a woman, Cal said carelessly. Sounds just like them, Lucas said, smirking. That reminds me Cal gave Lucas wide, innocent blue eyes. Why are we stealing pendants anyway? If we decide to raid the palace, shouldnt we look for something more valuable? Like princesses? Lucas suggested, smirking. Cal laughed. No, I was thinking more like the royal seal or something. I dont want to cause a big commotion, Lucas explained. I just want a pendant or two so I could get myself a Guardian Spirit. Why are you so interested in a Guardian Spirit anyway? Cal asked. Must I explain everything? Lucas asked, exasperated. Oops, sorry Captain, Cal said, bowing down several times.

Lucas sighed and relaxed against the wall. Cal, be more like a pirate will you? Cal smiled brightly. Im trying, Captain. Lucas sighed in relief when Russ came back and leaned against the wall with his dark brown eyes on Cal, who was smiling right now. Russ did not understand what was so funny but he ignored it and scratched the side of his nose before he started. The Queens room, Russ said. Nice job, Russ, Lucas said, patting Russ on the shoulder. Lucas waved at the rest of the boys and started down the shadows of the hallway. Cal patted Russ on the shoulder as well. Where did you eavesdrop on that information anyway? How do you know it is accurate or not? Russ flicked Cal a look. The servant girls. Where? Cal urged. Washroom, Russ answered. You peep? Cal asked, dropping his jaw. Why did you not tell me? Russs left eye started twitching. Nay. What? Cal asked, cocking his head to the side. I spied on the girls doing laundry, Russ said with a blush. Oh, Cal realized his mistake and laughed. Sorry for calling you a pervert. Men, Russ said clearly before he followed the rest of the crew. No! Cal called after him. Horny teenage boys! ****************************** On the ship, a tall, elegant male in a flamboyant white outfit with a loose neckline and long sleeves used his slender forefinger to lift Adas chin up to face his sparkling teal eyes. His blue hair fell into his teal eyes but he continued to observe Adas face carefully with keenness. The younger male with long strands of dark red hair took a quick swift of rye before he left his attention on Ada as well. Sherman knew he caught quite a prize for his leader. Right next to him, Kei played with a curly strand of dark pink hair as he balanced against his sword. So what do you think Flaine? Sherman asked curiously. You dont want to know what Im thinking right now, Flaine answered, smirking. Kei laughed. He means the girlie, Flaine. Flaine returned his attention to Ada, who still had the cloth wrapped around her mouth. They were in the corner of the storage room where Ada was sitting on the ground with ropes tied around her wrists and ankles. Ada felt sweat dripping off the side of her head at the three pairs of eyes looking at her. Flaine rubbed his chin in thought. She needs a bath, Flaine suggested. We know that Flaine! Kei and Sherman blurted in unison. Sherman continued, Do you think she will suit Lucass taste or not? If that was what you mean, why didnt you say so? Flaine asked, causing the other two to give him murderous glares. Flaine smiled at Ada. I

think she will do just fine. Lucas says no skinny girls right? Flaine picked Ada up by the waist and placed her on top of a storage box. Flaine nodded as he placed both his hands around her waist. See? Shes not that skinny. Flaine moved his right hand up and stopped it in front of her chest. And shes not flat either. She is a delicate little thing though. In my opinion, I think she will make a better present than we can ever hope for. Good, Kei sighed in relief. After what we did this morning, I hope Lucas can forgive us, Sherman said. What did you two do exactly? Flaine asked curiously. Nothing, Kei and Sherman said in unison. No matter, Flaine said with a shrug, wrapping his right arm around Ada and carrying her by his side. Lucas will tell me when he comes back anyway. Flaine walked toward the door. Meanwhile, Ill drop this girl off in Lucass room. Flaine closed the door behind him without another word. That cook Kei grumbled. I hate how well he knows Lucas, Sherman muttered. I hate how the bastard gets away with everythin, Kei said under his breath. We did all the work to capture her and I bet you anything he will get all the credit, Sherman said sadly. Why did ya seek him then? Kei asked curiously. Because the last time I captured a girl for Lucas, he made me walk the plank for bad taste in women, Sherman said. We need Flaine to inspect. I remember! Kei laughed. Best. Day. Ever. Shut up! Sherman punched Kei hard in the shoulder. In Lucass room, the walls were decorated with various maps of Mizunam and the En Ocean. The bed was large enough to hold three people if possible. The desk under the window was dusty and messy with scattered rice paper. The floor creaked with every step taken, making it hard to sneak around in this room. The lighting was dim, since only two candles were lid during this hour. Dirty clothes hung on chairs, closets, and every other place imaginable. To summarize, the entire room was a mess. Flaine dropped Ada off in the corner of the room, next to the door leading to the captains private washroom. Ada watched in silence as Flaine smacked his forehead with the back of his hand. Ada especially noticed Flaines shivering right hand. Obviously, Flaine was not taking the sight of the captains room very well. Flaine cursed under his breath, and picked up some pants on the floor. I swear Flaine muttered. I am living with pigs. Watching from afar, Ada noticed the tall, broad-shouldered male recoiled in horror every time he set his eyes on something out of place. Immediately afterwards, Flaine would not take it anymore and simply put the item back in its place. Flaine straightened the books on the captains desk, piled the paperwork, and returned the quills back in the drawers.

Flaine ran over to the bed, saw the mess on it, and slumped on the ground, shaking his head. Horrific I tell you! Flaine cried. In one swift motion, Flaine straightened the sheets, threw all the dirty clothes in a laundry basket, threw a pile of crumbled paper in the wastebasket, and changed the pillow cases. Flaine almost tripped over some boots on the floor. Flaine slammed his head against a nearby wall before he bent over and picked up the boots. Flaine shivered but nevertheless dumped the footwear in the closet. Passing by Ada, Flaine took out a broom and started sweeping. When he came close to where she was, he finally realized she was still here. Flaine was so occupied in tidying the room that he completely forgot why he was here in the first place. That man I call Captain Flaine shook his head and picked her up effortlessly, dropping the broom aside. Needs a woman I tell you. Ada blinked. Flaine smiled generously. Im sorry you have to see the room in such a state, my lady, Flaine said apologetically. Im afraid to say that the washroom is probably not in the best shape either. Ill clean up that room before you go in and tidy up okay? Flaine dropped Ada on the bed in a lying position. Relax for a minute, my lady. Flaine is at your service. Flaine finished sweeping the room with his broom before putting it away. Right when he finished, the door swung open to reveal the captain. The dark-haired male hastily kicked his boots to the side of the room, making a mud mark on the wall. Flaine muttered something under his breath at this. Lucas closed the door behind him and found himself stunned to see his room. Flaine! Lucas roared. I told you not to clean my room! Flaine recoiled at the sound. Ada almost felt sorry for the cook. Flaine dropped on his knees on the ground and started talking shakily, Im sorry, Lucas. I just cant help it! Flaine looked like he was about to burst into tears. This room is not suitable for a captain like yourself to live in! Lucas noticed the organize desk. How could I live like this? Lucas pointed at the desk with a shaky finger. How am I able to locate anything anymore? I cant help it! Flaine almost screamed, still shaking on the floor. Stay in your own kitchen! Lucas said angrily. And the bed! Lucas turned his attention to the bed, only to widen his eyes at Ada laying on it, tied up around her wrists and ankles. The bed Lucas lost his train of thought at the sight of the hot-pink hair woman on his bed with a cloth around her mouth. Who Lucas could not speak. Instead, he approached her and stared at her more closely. Flaine finally had some courage to stand back up on his feet. Who is the bastard who captured her? Lucas asked, whirling on Flaine. Sherman and Kei did! Flaine squeaked. Tell those two to come in here this instant! Lucas ordered. Flaine ran out the door as if his life depended on it. In a few minutes, Sherman and Kei came in with Cal and Russ following right behind them.

Then, a couple of other boys also followed, seeing what the commotion was all about. Lucas picked Adas head up with his hand roughly. Who did this? Did what Captain? Sherman asked shakily, remembering all too well how he had to jump the plank last time. Who captured her? Lucas asked again. Sherman gave Kei a look, as if asking the dark pink-haired male to save him. Kei caught the message and said shakily, I-I did sir. And was that why you did not come with Cal to the Mizunamian Palace when I asked all of you to? Lucas asked incredulously. Kei gave Sherman a pleading look and gulped, Aye. So where were you? Lucas tossed Sherman an accusing look now. I-I Sherman glanced over at Cal, Flaine, and the rest for help. He went straight back to the ship, Captain, Cal lied quickly. Exactly, Sherman nodded quickly. He did, did he? Lucas raised a brow. Well? Flaine? Now, it was Flaines turn. Flaine knew he still owe Sherman that one time Sherman helped him escape from the angry kitchen crew he criticized a while ago. Now, it was time to pay back that debt. Yes he did. He carried quite a load of rye he did. That was a lie too. Flaine carried most of the rye himself, but this was something he could overlook at the moment. Shermans life was at stake right now. I see, Lucas said at last. So Kei captured her by himself? Am I correct? The whole crew nodded, even Russ who did it quite unwillingly. Then, out of the blue, Lucas laughed and patted Kei on the shoulder. The whole crew was stunned, even Ada, who was still on the bed. Good work, Kei. You are free from tonights shift. T-Thank you, Lucas! Kei said in relief. Ill make sure to reward you somehow, Lucas said, nodding. Everyone watched with dropped jaws as Kei happily left the room and to a well-rewarded rest in his room. Sherman, who also caught Ada with Kei, was speechless. Cal sighed in relief that no one was hurt for tonight. Russ blinked and quietly left the room along with the other men. Flaine was about to leave when Lucas placed a hand on his shoulder to stop him. Tell me, Flaine, Lucas said softly. Did Sherman help you with the rye or not? No, sir, Flaine shook his head, smiling now. No he did not. I see, Lucas said with a smile. I hope Sherman learns his lesson this time. I hope so too, Flaine said. Oh, Lucas indicated at the washroom. Since you decided upon yourself to clean up the whole room, you should hurry up and tidy up the washroom as well. Flaines eyes widened in happiness, as if he received a reward of some kind. Really Lucas? I can clean your washroom?

Yes, Lucas said with an amused smile. Oh thank you! Flaine, who was taller than Lucas, flung his arms around Lucass shoulders and hugged him. Thank you so much, Captain! Lucas broke from the embrace. Hurry up, Flaine. The girl is waiting. Yes sir! Flaine ran into the room and closed the door behind him. Lucas laughed at the blue-haired mans reaction. Returning his attention to Ada, he sat down on the bed next to her and observed her from top to bottom. Ada noticed almost immediately the pendant around his neck. She could have sworn this was one of the ten pendants in her mothers room. Lucas seemed to be looking for the same item because the next minute, he lifted the white pendant around her neck. I wonder Lucas said, thinking. With Lucass hand on her neck, Ada struggled to free herself from the ropes that tied her hands together but again, she found herself unable to free herself from this dilemma. Lucas noticed and loved how she avoided his touch as much as possible. Lucas loved a challenge. Intrigued, Lucas released the cloth around her mouth. The minute the cloth was off she lunged and bit his hand. Lucas jerked back and grabbed her hair roughly. Damn witch! Lucas called her. You dirty, pirate scum! Ada retorted. How dare you touch me! Your speech Lucas said slowly. Your actions will land you in jail, you rule-breaking, thieving pirates! How dare you capture me against my will! How dare you harass me! Ada glared at him in indignation. You conniving boy! Boy? Lucas laughed. Im older than you! No, you are younger than me! Ada retorted. Lucas scanned her eyes more clearly. Younger older it doesnt matter. You cannot call me a boy, you petite girl! Boy! Boy! Boy! Ada repeated, daring him. To hell with washing up! Lucas jumped on top of her with his face inches away from her. Ada gasped in horror. Ill take you down right now! Get off me this instant! I will call the authorities on you, pirate! Ada warned. Call then! Lucas dared, inching closer. I want to hear you scream! You insolent boy! Ada cried. Lucas had enough of this as he took off his shirt and threw it on the ground. Ada closed her eyes and looked away. What are you doing, pirate? Dress yourself now! Whats the matter? Lucas asked, taunting her. Never seen a man naked? In all my years! Ada refused to open her eyes. I had never seen such audacious behavior! Oh Goddess save me! Lucas placed his lips on her throat and said softly, Quite a virgin, arent you milady? Ada fought to move away from him but his weight would not allow her to commit such an act. Lucas released the ropes from her hands and held them both down to the side. Whats the matter, milady? Spending too much time inside your mansion somewhere?

What kind of rubbish do you speak of? Ada demanded. I never felt such soft hands, Lucas commented, feeling her hands and moving them up her arms. It is obvious you are born of high noble blood. You probably never labored before either. I will not listen to you speak of me this way! Ada cried. Tell me Lucas nibbled her ear and whispered. How much do you know about the exchange between a man and a woman? What in the Goddess Alikas name are you heading off to now? Ada started to kick, but Lucas forced her legs down. Should I be more straightforward about it? Lucas asked, amused. Should I spell it out for you? You sick-minded This is all natural, milady. Everyone knows. Lucas said clearly. I am innocent unlike you! Ada screamed. Lucas stopped suddenly and backed his head away from her neck. The color in his cheeks vanished. Lucas felt a cold shiver through his entire body. Lucas sat up, looking down at her. Those green eyes were starting to fill with tears, whether from anger or something else, Lucas did not know. What? Lost your ability to speak? Ada asked, sitting up. Ill never forget that day Lucas said solemnly. That day when the person I trusted the most raped me Lucas glanced over to the wall and refused to make eye contact with Ada. That woman raised us all of us into mature boys why? Why did her daughter rape us? Lucas bit his lip and felt an overwhelming sensation in his heart. That is why I must make all women pay for their wickedness. That may be so Ada trailed off, tears dripping down the side of her face. But two wrongs dont make a right! At that time, Flaine came out of the washroom and observed the two with a curious look on his face. He retreated at the sight of his master angry and left without another word. Lucas pulled Ada up by the wrists and flung her toward the washroom. Wash up! Lucas ordered. I am not one of your men! You cannot order me to do anything! Ada protested. Lucas grabbed a hold of his sword and held it threateningly up at her. Now! Ada walked toward the washroom in obedience when she caught sight of an extra sword on top of the drawers. Although she used scimitars, swords were not that different. Ada grabbed a hold of it and attacked Lucas with it. Lucas was more skillful with the sword than she first assumed. Lucas dodged every attack and almost succeeded with every counterattack. However, every time, instead of piercing her skin with the sword, he cut another piece of her dress. Finally, Lucas used his own sword and knocked her sword away. Lucas watched in amusement as her whole dress fell apart and onto the ground. Ada gathered all the modesty she had left and ran into the washroom, more than willingly.

Damn virgin! Lucas slammed a fist against the wall. I cant touch her! She looks like me back then Lucas tossed one of Cals clothes on the chair next to the washroom for her. Lucas walked out of his room and slammed the door behind him. Minnie Notes: Some noteworthy things to mention: Basically at this time period, to the Mizunamians, there are only four existing countries: Mizunam, Palan, Limeon, and Kashia. The other countries are blocked by many natural disasters, which is uncovered in Spirits II when Ada searches for Lucas by traveling all over the world, discovering Morea, Corodie, and others. Also, the stories of the Eight Legendary Heroes havent been discovered yet. The stories of the Goddesses are half missing. The Limeon Squad Leaders have three females, and one male at this time. Limeon is trying to have an equal society. In Limeon, there is still a law that says on women with property can vote. Men cannot. The idea of mistresses is nothing but an illusion, but the idea of boy toys (or the male counterparts of mistresses) are common especially in Mizunam. Female brothels have not been invented yet. Poor guys suffering in those male brothels. ^^;; During this time, males are not allowed to wear shorts or polo shirts, for safety reasons. ^^;; Females usually wear skirts or dresses. The idea of wearing pants, like males, is abnormal. Why wear something the lower sex wear? The idea of wearing suits (like Rogelio) during formal meetings is not common either. Usually, males wear armor. The highest position a male has achieved is the Duke, though the Duchess is still considered superior in status. The Consort of the Queen has no power whatsoever. This does not matter much though because over half of the population are farmers anyway. Slavery is only banned very recently, though many female landlords still secretly uses slaves (tanned males from Kashia). Spirits roam all over Philtopia in search of those with the pendants. The Gate between the two worlds have been opened for decades so Spirits are common during this time period. However, most humans do not know Spirits are from another world so they have no idea where the Gates are either. Humans regard Spirits as Guardians, or a higher life form closer to the Goddesses than themselves but without free will like themselves. That is basically all they know. Spirits are tools for battle.

And yes, if you havent figured out already, women dominate Mizunam. Families pray for daughters in order to continue the family name. Males are usually left in orphanages (like Lucas). For marriages, the family on the male side will offer land and other gifts to the family on the female side. If the mother dies, the land goes to her daughter, not the father or son. Some land is left for the son for marriage purposes. Usually, in a marriage, the husband has no right at all and is almost a slave to the wife. A husband who cheats on his wife is shunned. The other way around is common. And lastly, for the Alika Church, the High Priestess is in charge, not the Pope and for the Queendom, the Queen is in charge, not the King Consort. Princes are used as marriage tools in the diplomatic game while princesses inherit the throne.
