That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime – Extra Edition – How to Spend a

Certain Vacation

Episode 2: The City of Sages1

The Kingdom of Malkusia.

It is a small country in the south that belongs to the western countries but also borders the
Sorcerer’s Dynasty of Sarion. Although small, it is a rare country that has a port where marine
products are distributed.

However, the sea is the domain of giant monsters, and seaborne trade does not flourish.
Because freezing and preservation technology has yet to be developed, the country is quite
modest and poor. Only a small number of fish and shellfish are harvested to be consumed
domestically.

Even so, in this country, there are many wizards who have set their sights on the Magic Tower.
These people normally came with money, which enriched the wealthy class, such as the royalty
and the aristocracy. Naturally, the common people also benefited from this. The proof was in
the fact that they could live without starving despite their poverty.

Hence, the Royal Capital of Malkusia is called the City of Sages.

*********

We had just arrived at the Malkusia branch of the Western Holy Church. Hinata had used her
Elemental Magic ‘Warp Portal’ to bring us along with her. There was a very good reason for
coming to a kingdom like Malkusia. It was because the Magic Tower that Luminas mentioned
previously could only be reached from here.

The Magic Tower was not an easy place where just anyone could get to. Under special
conditions, the path was open only to those who were qualified.

One of these conditions was to stand on a headland in this country where you could see the
maelstrom on the night of the new moon. And there was one more condition. This was the
more important one—the ability to use flight magic.

According to what Luminas had told me, the Magic Tower only appeared from the maelstrom
on the night of the new moon. One could probably cross the raging sea by boat, but that would

1
Another translation could be “City of Wise Men.”
be very difficult. Rather than doing that, it was simply easier to fly straight across. Simply put, if
one could not cross the sea, they were not qualified to enter the tower.

The tower mages were rumored to collect all kinds of magic from all over the world, and that
they hold no interest in non-wizards. However, just because one was allowed to enter the
tower did not mean they would be treated politely. That was something else to look forward to
upon entering the tower.

In our case, Luminas had prepared a letter of introduction for us. I would like to believe that we
won’t be turned away at the gate, but……

The night of the new moon would arrive in three days. If we arrived on that day, we wouldn’t
have to wait, but it wasn’t that simple. The Kingdom of Malkusia was also a member of the
Western Nations, so it was not possible to smuggle oneself into the country. If I simply entered
the country, it was possible to go undiscovered, but I felt that doing so would affect my
subsequent activities.

After all, I am a Demon Lord. Veldora is the “Storm Dragon.” And Hinata is the leader of the
Holy Knight Order, the guardians of mankind. It was better to be invited in a straightforward
manner rather than to suddenly disregard the law and enter the country.

Besides, while it was easy to simply enter the country, a troublesome screening process would
await us upon entering the Royal Capital.

Surprisingly, an extremely large barrier had been placed around the Magic Tower on the sea,
preventing intrusion from even the sky or underground. Although it was possible to break
through the barriers, such an attempt would surely be discovered and would eventually lead to
a larger problem.

“Did Hinata know there were barriers?”

“Eh, of course. That's why I’m acting on the premise of getting permission to enter the Royal
Capital this way.”

The reason for this was that this was a country so closely tied to the Magic Tower that it was
even called the City of Sages.

It was because of the existence of the Magic Tower that people gathered in this land, thus
developing into a town and then a country. The Kingdom of Malkusia was a nation that existed
solely due to the existence of the Magic Tower.

Apparently, the headland on the night of the new moon was extremely crowded with wizards
aiming for the Magic Tower. The population of wizards was not that large, so the rumors were
probably just exaggerated, but even so, if we tried to force our way through, we would
definitely be discovered.

In any case, since the Magic Tower could only be reached from a headland in the Royal Capital,
it was necessary to legally enter the City of Sages.

There was also the idea of forcibly entering and remaining hidden……but if someone saw us,
they would surely be saying, “Who is that guy?”……and then there would definitely be a huge
commotion. It was better to go through the immigration process in a straightforward manner,
even if it meant waiting a little longer.

All that said, it would still be too much trouble if I were to visit as the ruler of a nation.

Even if there wasn’t a Demon Lord who was visiting, it was obvious that some careless official
visit would cause a commotion in the current situation where there was an increasing number
of countries wishing to do business with the Monster Country. Moreover, if we brought the
“Storm Dragon” with us, we might be misunderstood as coming with the intention to fight a
war.

Therefore, it was collectively decided that we would visit as ordinary travelers.

The main issue was identification.

I had a B+ rank certificate issued by the Freedom Association, and Hinata had a false
identification card issued by the Western Holy Church. I wondered if that was okay as a Holy
Knight, but Hinata seemed to lose a few brain cells when it came earning pocket money, so I
tacitly accepted it.

Luminas was very lenient with her own people—I was convinced of it.

In other words, the most pressing issue was how to deal with Veldora's identification.

Naturally, I proposed the most reliable and simple method.

I suggested that he be issued an ID card at the newly established Tempest branch of the
Freedom Association under the fake name “Gimei2”. However, Veldora was very opposed to
this idea.

.........
......
...

2
The name Rimuru proposed (ギメイ) was literally a katakana form for the word (偽名) meaning “alias/fake
name”
According to him…

“Even I want to register under my real name! And above all, it would be a waste to miss out on
the guild events!!”

…And so on and so forth. That’s why things become so damn troublesome.

What guild events? Thinking about it, he just wanted to get involved with the senior
adventurers.

I thought he was an idiot.

Certainly, I was involved with the guild as well, but that was possible because of the way I
appeared. My gender was unknown due to my mask, and judging from my voice, one might
think I was a girl. The adults probably thought I was a young girl trying to become an
adventurer, and thus were less interested. I think there was also the sentiment that one should
not be underestimated.

Now let’s turn our attention and take a look at Veldora.

He was a big, muscular man. He appeared strong, and as an adventurer, he would be welcomed
with open arms. Only a dim-witted fool would complain about such a being.

“That’s why, I’m telling you not to get tangled up with them.”

“But isn't it customary etiquette for the newcomer to be baptized by his seniors?”

“No, there is no such custom.”

“But that's the promise—”

“That's wrong.”

Seriously. Who in the world even gave Veldora the idea that—wait, huh? That’s the manga I
gave him there in his hand……

Ehem

Pursuing this any further could lead to a bit of a wild goose chase, so I’ll stop here.

And because of that, I became a little soft, and Veldora wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass.
“One should never give up on anything. Don't you agree? If it doesn't work out, I’ll give up, but
it's not in my nature not to try!!”

“Hmm……”

It was a statement coming from Veldora, but it was kind of cool. No, even though I know I’m
being swayed by the atmosphere, it might be okay to let him have his way.

Hinata, who had been silently listening to our exchange, let out a big sigh of exasperation.

“That's enough. I know about the country where the Magic Tower is located. Conveniently, it is
divided into the capital known as the City of Sages, and the general area that extends around
the periphery of the capital. The general area is open to free trade, and anyone can easily enter
without identification. There is also a branch of the Western Holy Church in Malkusia, so we can
stay there and visit the Freedom Association to get an ID card for Veldora-dono.”

And so, she accepted Veldora’s argument. If that was the case, I had no objection.

I’m not sure if Veldora's wishes would be fulfilled—whether or not he would get tangled up
with some thuggish adventurers—but if that meant he could get his ID, then so be it. In any
case, if he was planning to be an adventurer under the name of Veldora, there was going to be
an uproar either way. It was better to be the talk of some remote country, than to be the talk of
our own country.

“Then it’s settled! Kuaaahahaha!!”

Veldora laughed loudly with satisfaction. Hearing that made me uneasy, but I decided to be
open-minded because it was still the same as always.

.........
......
...

And so, the plan was for Veldora to become an adventurer under his real name.

Would Veldora be able to qualify as an adventurer in three days?

He had plenty of time to spare, so I think he would be fine, though I was still a little worried. In
the worst-case scenario, he would have no choice but to break in without permission. I might as
well prepare for that eventuality just in case.

With those thoughts in mind, we all stepped inside the church.

*********

The priest who greeted us was a nice, honest-looking young man. His name was Nix, and he
oversaw this church despite his young age.

“We’ll be under your care for the time being.”

In response to Hinata’s greeting, Nix was very flustered and bowed his head. He grasped
Hinata's proffered hand with both of his, and it was entirely clear that he was thrilled.

“Please do not hold back, Hinata-sama! You are the leader of the Holy Knight Order (Crusaders),
and we are always being protected by you!”

Judging from his attitude, there was no doubt that he respected Hinata. In contrast, his
response to Veldora was……

“Mm. Much obliged.”

“Tch, evil dragon.”

“Mm?”

“No, it's nothing. Please make yourself at home.”

Oh? He seemed so simple and honest, but for a moment, I thought I saw something murky and
dark there……I had thought we could stay here with a peace of mind, but it seems that I was
being a little too hasty.

Well, the Luminas religion was thoroughly hostile to the evil dragon. Although a non-war
agreement had been made between Luminas and I, and we had decided to get along for the
time being, it probably couldn’t be helped that the awareness reform had not het reached
across the associations.

Things might be a bit tense, so I’d have to make sure Veldora wouldn’t get angry. First things
first, it was important to avoid any further hostility.

“I'm Rimuru. Nice to meet you.”

I greeted him with a smile, but Nix was not as friendly.

“Ah, the Demon Lord. Naturally, you are welcome.”

He responded in a very nonchalant manner, shaking hands without any intention of hiding his
dislike for the situation. It was so different from the attitude he showed towards Hinata that it
was almost refreshing.

But at that moment, Hinata looked at Nix sharply.

“Nix, that attitude is unacceptable.”

“Eh?”

Nix was puzzled by this sudden remark. Hinata answered in response.

“Veldora is an evil dragon, so leaving him aside—”

“Eh, what about me?”

Hinata continued speaking, brilliantly ignoring the shocked Veldora.

“—Demon Lord Rimuru is my benefactor. He was willing to forgive me for my misunderstanding

and has kindly helped me in many ways. Even if that wasn’t the case, he is a good friend from
my native land, and I will not allow him to be treated with disrespect.”

Her tone was normal and not angry, but it was clear that she was being sincere. That seemed to
the hardest part for Nix to bear.

“……I understand. Your Majesty Demon Lord Rimuru, I apologize for earlier.”

“Ah, it’s fine. It wasn’t really something to apologize for, but I accept. I look forward to working
with you for the time being.”

I said my part and nodded back at Nix, who bowed his head. For me, I was just satisfied with the
fact that Hinata got angry for my sake. She was usually so ‘tsun tsun3’ that the occasional ‘dere
dere4’ she showed me was quite powerful.

“Hey, hey, what about me? Shouldn't you take care of me too?”

Veldora tugged at my clothes as he spoke. Even though it was troublesome, I would have to
deal with it.

“Veldora has a history with Luminas, so that resentment can’t be erased so easily, right?”

3
Turning away in disgust or anger. One half of what makes up a tsundere.
4
To become affectionate. The other half of what makes up a tsundere.
“Th-that’s it!? I apologized, didn't I?”

“Yes, but that doesn't mean that Luminas' grudge is gone, does it? Well, if you show some
remorse from now on, I’m sure she will forgive you.”

That said, Luminas is also surprisingly magnanimous, so I think she has already forgiven him.
Otherwise, I don't think she would have even spoken to Veldora. Well, it couldn’t be helped
that it would take a little more time for that to reach its conclusion.

And that’s how I was able to convince Veldora. Nix also seemed to have been admonished by
Hinata.

“Just as Hinata-sama said, I was wrong. The love of the god Luminas should be given with
equality, even if the one in question is a Demon Lord.”

What exactly is equality……

In the first place, I was not interested in the love of the god Luminas. Even before all that,
Luminas was a Demon Lord herself……

Luminas’ grinning face flickered across my mind. For some reason, the look of triumphant pride
on her face made me feel defeated.

*********

After checking in at the church, which also served as an inn, we entered the rooms assigned to
each of us. Since I could change my clothes instantaneously, I just checked over the room
assigned to me. It’s not that I was suspicious of Nix, but it was a habit of mine to do so, as well
as going over the inn’s evacuation routes. I didn't find any problems, so I headed for the dining
room where we were to meet.

Since this was a small church, the chapel would have been too intrusive. Thus, the only suitable
room for a meeting was in the dining hall, which could accommodate about 20 people.

As I changed my clothes and went out to the dining room, Veldora followed right after.

“What do you think? Cool, right?”

“Oh, did Kaijin make it for you?”

“That’s right. I was so happy that he accepted my request and prepared it with such excellent
workmanship.”
Perhaps, but it seemed to focus more on looks than functionality. It was a cool visual kei5 styled
costume, but the overall design seemed concerning when it came to defense. Though to be
honest, there was no point in Veldora having protective gear, so if he was happy with it, it was
probably the right thing.

That’s why I simply let it go and said it was amazing. I was the same as Veldora in that aspect.

The costume and robe that I had asked Shuna to make for me were elaborately designed with
the image of a wizard in mind. However, in terms of functionality, there was nothing special
about it. My "Universal Barrier" handled that issue.

As Veldora and I were complementing each other, Hinata came out a little later. Hinata, too,
had changed from her holy knight's uniform into casual adventurer's clothes.

With sturdy cloth upper garments and spats that clung to her bare skin similar to the way Shizu-
san’s garments had, her bare skin was exposed as little as possible. Despite this, the design did
not inhibit movement.

She was wearing leather armor, a steel breastplate, hand gauntlets, and even ankle guards
which were all surprisingly authentic. Her weapon of choice was the thin rapier I had given her
as a gift, but the rest of her equipment was of the style she used when personally
commissioned to exterminate monsters.

“You’re wearing a full-fledged disguise.”

“Of course. It's not a good look for the Commander of the Holy Knight Order to be taking
commissions to exterminate monsters.”

I see. That was indeed true. While the Holy Knight Order was not organization that offered free
services, neither did they have the image of an organization that greedily sought after rewards.
I understood that if she was going to get paid for taking requests, it was better not to have her
title exposed.

However. Since she could not hide her good looks, I felt that her true identity was still obvious.
Not to mention the suspiciously large backpack she was carrying.

“In that case, wouldn't it be better to keep your replacement equipment hidden so that no one
will see it?”

Upon hearing me ask that, Hinata shook her head in exasperation.

5
Kind of like the Japanese version of western glam rock style. Think k-pop style.
“That’s how it is. It seems that you are unaware of this, so let me tell you something: Normal
people can't do everything as absurdly as you do.”

Oops, I've been lectured. But, well, Hinata's statement made sense.

I doubt that Hinata could be considered a normal person, but I was aware of the fact that I was
not normal. I tend to think according to my own standards, so it was dangerous to lose sight of
common sense.

In my case, everything could be stored in my "stomach," so I had naturally assumed that Hinata
also possessed such a storage technique. But when I thought about it, it was obvious that it
could not be that easy.

Although something like hiding your luggage with magic was possible, it was tiring to maintain
that magic for long periods of time. Emergency use aside, it was better to put off carrying less
important luggage for later.

No wonder she was carrying such a large bag.

“That’s why, in order to understand how ordinary people feel, you should try experiencing an
inconvenient life without relying on your skills.”

“I will think on it positively.”

“That's definitely a guy who’s not going to do it.”

She found out.

Veldora and I involuntarily exchanged glances.

Well, once you’ve gotten used to this level of convenience, it's hard to imagine an inconvenient
life anymore. I understood what Hinata was saying, but I decided to just go along with her to
the extent that I wouldn’t get tired.

*********

Now that we had changed our clothes, we were ready for action. Together, three of us went
into town. Our first stop was, of course, the Freedom Association.

Veldora was expecting to get dragged into something, but there was no reason that for it to be
that unsafe. Moreover, there were three of us here, and we looked strong from the outside.
Well, thinking about it normally, nothing out of the ordinary should happen. It might be
troublesome to obtain Veldora adventurer's license, but with experienced people like us
accompanying him, there should be no problem.

Just as I was thinking in this way, we arrived at the Freedom Association building.

And lo and behold, there they were!

Those guys, they were idiots just like the ones I had imagined. They were not the kind of senior
adventurers that Veldora had been waiting for, who would get annoyed with newcomers, but in
another sense, they were just as bad.

“Oya, oya, it's rare to see newcomers, isn't it? Nn? You don't look familiar, are you a migrant?”

The man started talking to us as soon as he saw our faces. That was fine and all, but his gaze
was nettlesome and, frankly, creepy. His gaze passed over me in my robe and stopped at
Hinata. It made me even more uncomfortable.

“Just who’re you?”

Veldora stepped forward, as if waiting for him. Of the three of us, Veldora was the one who
could not be underestimated based on his appearance. I decided to just leave it to him and
watch.

“Who the hell are you?”

“Me? My name is Veldora! I am a promising newcomer who is about to make his debut as an
adventurer!”

Mmm, how’s that for a self-introduction?

Just as I thought something would happen, the guild erupted in a whirlwind of laughter.

“Gyahahahaha! You're nothing but show, huh?”

"Little boy6, don't make me laugh!”

“You sure are dressed to the nines. You’re just a privileged rich guy, aren't you? Go home and
suck on your mama's tits.”

6
He calls him “bocchan” as an insult. Bocchan can also be translated as “young master,” “rich boy,” “naïve boy,” or
“boy.”
And so, he ended up being laughed at by the adventurers who were hanging around the guild.
It was so predictable that I couldn't even sigh. Hinata and I looked at each other, shaking our
heads.

Still, there was one thing I had learned.

In this guild, there were five roughneck adventurers, one of them a middle-aged man at the
reception desk. They all appeared to be friends.

The owner of the disgusting gaze was the who called Veldora “little boy,” and the other four
were underlings—or rather, they seemed to be his escorts. Even the other guild members
seemed to be friends with them, so this was completely hostile away-game territory.

However, Veldora seemed happy.

“Hoh? I never expected you to take such an attitude upon hearing my name. Such reckless
fools!”

He had a huge smile on his face, seemingly overjoyed at the dispute.

“Hah? Come to think of it, didn’t you say your name was Veldora? Are you really crazy enough
to take the name of the storm dragon?”

“It seems that he is. I guess there really are idiots who would take the name of evil dragons and
demon lords. There’s no way, but that kid's name wouldn’t happen to be Rimuru, would it?”

Badump!?

Oh, come on, you’ve got to be kidding me! If I said my name in this situation, I really would look
like an idiot.

‘This is turning into a real problem’ I thought, while a little annoyed.

At that moment, the strongest-looking guy spoke to Veldora.

“Hey, you. You'd better learn some common sense before calling us the fools. Apply to the
feudal lord to have your name changed. I'll let you off the hook for today, so get the hell out of
here.”

He had short brown hair, shaved only at the back. He carried a curved sword at his waist, so he
had to be swordsman. His demeanor was different from the other four.
It was strange to find someone of his level here. Judging from his movements, he appeared to
possess Over A-rank abilities. I could be wrong, but he didn’t seem like the kind of guy who
would mistakenly let his talents be snuffed out in a rural town like this……

“Kukuku. You want me to change my name? You’re dead!”

“Alright, stop. Of course you’re not going to kill him!”

“M-Mm. That’s right.”

I would watch him to a certain extent, but I also had to make sure he didn’t cross the line. Just
as I warned him, Veldora changed his words.

“Kukuku. You want me to change my na—”

“““You're starting all over from there!?”””

In that moment, all the voices of those present, not just mine, united as one.

Seeing us like that, Hinata sighed in exasperation.

*********

After repositioning themselves, their quarreling resumed.

“Now then, if you're going to run away, do as you like.”

—is what Glaive7 said.

“Glaive-san is too kind.”

“Bro8, wouldn’t it be too much to ask of the little boy to just let him go scot-free?”

“That's right, Glaive. If you're going to let him get away with it, you've got to make sure he pays
for what he did. For the time being, I’ll let him off the hook if they leave that woman behind.”

The nasty guy calling him “little boy” was named Cyrus. Surprisingly, he was the son of the lord
who ruled over the City of Sages—the king’s son.

7
The word is pronounced as Gureibu (グレイブ) or “Glaive”, like the sword. It could also be translated as “Grave”
but I stuck with Glaive because he’s a swordsman.
8
He calls him “Aniki”
The one who appeared to be a great swordsman was Glaive. He was not just a bodyguard, but a
regular knight of this country. He was also the most skilled knight in the knighthood. Although
small, it was understandable that this country's top knight was Over A rank.

As Veldora was having his fun, Hinata was hearing about this from the other guild members.
The carefree behavior was admirable, but that was as far as it went. The guild members
seemed to have no choice but to follow Cyrus because they were dealing with a prince.
Regardless of their true intentions, they were not very cooperative.

“How problematic.”

“I agree.”

We looked at each other as we drank the tea that the guild members had prepared for us.

“Aren’t you missing the point here!?”

Cyrus complained in surprise, but that didn't matter. However, what happened next was bad.

“Cyrus-san. This guy, no, these guys are Freedom Association members, unlike the guy over
there. Rimuru-san here is B+ rank, and Hinata-san's is surprisingly an A rank. We can’t afford to
be so rash.”

“What? A rank!? Aren’t they just scammers?”

“Nn? Hey, hey, hey—seriously, his name really is Rimuru!! He’s a confirmed scammer!”

“Wait, wait. Then does that mean the woman calling herself Hinata over here is supposed to be
Saint Hinata-sama, the living legend of the Western Holy Church, and the commander of the
Holy Knight Order? Well, I'll admit she's pretty, but aren't you getting a little carried away?”

Because of the guild member who had blurted out such unnecessary things, everyone reacted
just as I had feared. He may not have had ill intentions, but when it comes to something like
this, any excuse is useless.

My face turned bright red.

They laughed so hard that I felt mortified, and I had no choice but to endure.

—However, I had a reliable ally.

“Hah? Shut your mouth. Don't you dare talk to me like some small fry who can't do anything
without the rest of his pack.”
Her low voice was so overbearing that I, who was listening beside her, was the first to turn pale.
And then there was the sharp, vicious gaze that could make anyone shudder in fear. If she were
to take things seriously, I was sure that she would crush those thugs’ spirits.

“Ueh!?”

“S-scary……”

“Cyrus-san, this woman is bad news.”

Cyrus's subordinates were completely terrified. However, in this world, there were some
people who were unable comprehend reality until they suffered through it.

“What are you guys crapping yourselves over for? If it was a guy over there I could understand,
but why are you so scared of being stared at by some woman?”

‘Eh, and me?’—And then there was Veldora waiting for his turn, but he probably wouldn’t be
called. I had a feeling.

“Good grief. Do they expect us country folk to believe them if they give us the name of such
powerful people? Still, it’s a shame. Even if you are the real thing, I am stronger than you.”

Glaive stepped forward as if to show his confidence. It was a response to Cyrus's bullish words,
but even from his own perspective, he seemed to want to fight Hinata. They say that the real
deal knows the real deal, so perhaps he sensed something. If that was the case, there would be
no stopping until the winner was decided.

And so, there was not much I could do. That’s right. All I could do was quietly watch. In other
words—being the spectator.

“Okay, chips and coffee.”

“Me, too.”

“We don't have anything like that.”

Tch, it can’t be helped. Well then, I’ll just take out my own snacks.”

“You'll give me some, too, won’t you?”

“You have your own share.”

While quibbling with one another, we pulled out the snacks and were all ready to watch the
show.

“You can start anytime!”

And I gave the signal.

“I don't care what you do, but make sure to leave some for me.”

Hinata replied while a little annoyed, and then the fight began.

.........
......
...

Well, needless to say, the result was obvious. It was Hinata’s overwhelming victory.

“Sh-she's the real deal! This woman's strength—she is definitely Hinata Sakaguchi!!”

Cyrus, who had been relying on Glaive's strength, screamed as if he was foaming at the mouth.

With her thin rapier, Hinata casually parried the sword that Glaive pulled out and sliced off his
fingers, showing a difference in strength akin to a lion tormenting a rabbit. She did it so calmly,
without single change of expression on her face. It almost seemed cruel, but it was a quick and
easy way to end the fight.

After all, a person only had ten fingers.

One had to be able to hold their sword in the first place, so if their thumb was blown off, they
wouldn’t be able to use their abilities to the full potential.

Whether or not it should be possible to do such a thing against a great swordsman was another
matter, but that was the reality of what happened right before my eyes.

“N-no way……Glaive-san was so one-sidedly……”

“Glaive-san are you alright? Glaive-saaaan—!?”

“M-monster!! Hinata really is a ruthless witch who lusts for blood even more than the rumors
say—!!”

Hearing the screams of his subordinates, Cyrus also nodded.

“Yeah, she may a beauty on the outside, but she's definitely someone you should never get
involved with!!”

It was a very accurate assessment of the real person, as if he had instinctively recognized who
was higher ranked.

I couldn’t help but nod my head in agreement.

“Why are you nodding along with me?”

Oh, I got caught.

“Ah, no, it's just that……”

Oh no. Now I’m being stared at too……or rather, they’re running off without me!?

I keep getting involved because of these idiots.

Hinata really is scary, after all.

I reaffirmed that once again and swore to myself that I would never make her angry.

*********

Inside the guild branch, which had now become quiet, Veldora muttered in dissatisfaction.

“Hinata took all the good snacks with her.”

Hinata responded with a genuinely disinterested look.

“I'm not happy at all, I won’t accept it.”

Continuing from there, I guess it was my job to appease them.

“Now, now, all those idiots got scared and ran off, so I guess things still turned out okay.”

With that said, I mediated between Veldora and Hinata.

The way people with common sense are made to suffer will always remain the same in every
world.
Still, there was something that bothered me about the fight earlier, so I asked Hinata about it
directly.

“Even so, isn't cutting off the fingers a bit much?”

In this world, the role of police differed from country to country. In some countries, soldiers
patrolled the streets and were in charge of maintaining public order, while in others, they had
more of a laissez-faire policy, leaving vigilantes to handle everything.

Under such circumstances, it was the Freedom Association, which had become more friendly in
the last decade, that protected the peace of the common people. This was solely due to the
efforts of Yuuki and his team.

However, compared to the modern society of Japan where I lived before my death, it was still
uncivilized. In reality, this was a society where violence reigned supreme, where the law of the
jungle prevailed and where equality under the law was nothing but a pipe dream. In other
words, if there was a fight, the loser was considered to be in the wrong unless there was clear
evidence of the contrary.

In this case, the fight took place within the guild, so there were supposedly fair witnesses—the
employees. But the worst part was that they were coming from the other side. A testimony
could be fabricated in any number of ways, and the traveler's side would normally be at a
disadvantage.

However, this time, the other side was in the wrong.

On top of being overwhelmingly powerful, we were also very famous. Moreover, we were
friends with Yuuki Kagurazaka, the head of the Freedom Association, which meant that we
were at a level that the other side could not handle. It would be a bad idea to get involved with
such a group.

Still…

Even though the opponent was an idiot, the difference in ability was obvious. There was
probably a way to get out of this more peacefully without having gone that far.

Well, I guess it was still better than being squashed by Veldora……

I had thought as much when she confronted me, but Hinata really had no mercy for her
enemies. If she had done that to me, it would have been impossible to recover as a swordsman.

Those were my thoughts as I spoke. However, Hinata merely snickered at me.

“Naturally, that was to make them ingratiate themselves to me later.”

“What do you mean?”

“You have tons of recovery medicine to spare, don’t you?”

“Ah, so that’s it!”

On the premise that there was a potion that could restore even a missing limb, then that act
made sense. It would be an overwhelming display of strength, and it would easily break the
enemies’ spirits. Plus, if we kindly healed their wounds, I don't think they would ever cross us
again. At the worst, since the other party was a prince, he’d be able to sell the medicine to us
for a high price.

To have calculated all of that in that in a split second, that’s Hinata for you.

That one incident made me realize that I was still a bit naive.

Since the idiots had left, we went to the remaining guild members to register Veldora as an
adventurer.

The employee seemed to want to run away with those idiots, but that was not going to happen.
We asked him to be flexible, and he promptly prepared the paperwork for us.

The half-sobbing employee was currently working frantically. It was probably the most diligent
work he had ever done.

The information they asked for was the name, age, special skills, hometown, and other
information. This had been the same as for me. In the case of Veldora, only his name and
hometown were required.

I noticed that “Veldora-style Killing ArtsTM” was written in the "special skills" column, but I let it
slide because I knew I would lose if I got into it.

“U-um, Hinata-sama is the real one, correct? In that case, perhaps does this mean that Veldora-
sama here is also……?”

The guild member asked Veldora with a strained voice, as if facing a reality that he did not yet
want to admit.

It appeared to be the question he had been waiting for, so Veldora answered happily.
“Fufufu, so you’ve finally noticed? That’s right! I am indeed on of the greatest “True Dragons”—
the “Storm Dragon” Veldora!!”

He had no intention of hiding it.

Well, I was expecting it to be discovered from the beginning, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

But still, the employee’s complexion was quickly turning pale.

“Ah-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba……”

Swallowing his voiceless scream, he frantically processed the documents with trembling hands.

“After this is the exam, right? What do I have to do—”

“Pass! You passed!!”

“Eh?”

“Please choose any option you would like. I will take the responsibility of registering you,
Veldora-sama! Incidentally, the ranking is B. I apologize, but this is the highest ranking I am
authorized to grant, so I hope you please understand!!”

And that's what happened.

As if having it fall into his lap, Veldora became a B-rank adventurer in the blink of an eye.
