Procedure

EXPERIMENTAL SETUP:
First of all, the syringe can be connected with both pressure
and temperature sensors and allows the simultaneous
meaurements of temperature and pressure of a gas when it is
compressed. The white plastic tubing coupler attaches to the
pressure port of the sensor. A slight twisting motion locks the
coupler onto the port. This white plastic can be connected and
disconnected during the experiment. When we change the
initial position of the plunger, the white plastic should be
disconnected to release the pressure inside it.
CAPSTONE SETUP:
Add a table with putting headings Temperature, absolute
pressure and volume of a syringe in PASCO Capstone. A volume
is a user entered data. Set the frequency rate to 20HZ and
change to the keep mode. Set up a graph of pressure and
volume.
PROCEDURE:
Firstly, we disconnected the white plastic pressure coupler from
the absolute pressure sensor. Then we set the plunger at 50ml,
and then connected the coupler to the sensor.
Secondly, we clicked on “Preview data” button. We waited for
approximately 50 to 60 seconds, after that we pressed “Keep”
button while the plunger was still at 50 ml. This will provide the
time for the air inside the syringe to reach thermal equilibrium
with constant temperature. Then we compressed the plunger
to 45 ml and held it at that position. Then we observed the
temperature to change. At first the temperature increased and
then we waited for 50 to 60 seconds till it returned back to
room temperature and pressed “Keep”. Then we repeated the
experiment for 40ml, 35ml, 30ml and 25ml. We calculated the
error which was the difference of mean temperature and room
temperature, and applied error correction to the temperature.
